Anxious to get the engagement ring

For the record, John Daly really does endorse a driver!!! "Daily Driver"- who knew!?!?! I've never heard of the term, here in Nor Cal. We don't even say commuter car. Aaaaaaaahhh, regionalism. In world of increasing homogeneity, regional differences are fascinating to me.

I lived in NorCal for 19 years and recently moved to SoCal. I've heard some people put it like this... my "going to work car" or "my weekend car".

Yeah, you're right. I've heard that too. My relatives on the East Coast have 'category' cars- their daily drivers, their winter cars, their long trip cars. Here in California, where people live in their cars, it doesn't seem to be so prevalent.

Hey Girls! Not much activity around here lately.


I picked out my bridesmaid dress for my best friends wedding. Its from the Color Expressions Collection at Davids. I'm pretty happy with it. There was one other style that I thought was prettier, but it showed every little lump and bump because it was a really light chiffon. The one I chose is satin and sucks everything in where its supposed to be.





Do you guys like it? It actually has a little mini train in the back.. its cute.


This one was my other choice.





But see how clingy everything is? Its a beautiful dress but I would have needed some major shaping things from victoria's secret!!


And, I could fit into 4's in the store, but they were very tight on my large ribcage. So I ordered a 6. I'm excited about that.


Then when I just got home there was a big fedex box for me. I couldn't imagine what was going to be in it. Turns out the big giant box was just my teeeny little engraved heart ring from Zales! It's REALLY cute. Its very thin and delicate. I will take pics soon, but my boyfriend has our digital camera again. I also got a new fake ring. Its te exact same shape and setting style and everything as my big fake blue one, but its about TWICE as big and Pinky/Purple. I have a few pictures of that but its on my old digital camera and I can't find the cable to hook it to the computer. When my boyfriend gets here I'll have him take pictures of both of them with the good camera.




Well that is all I have for now.. No e-ring yet.. My mother is getting impatient now TOO.. She keeps saying that it seems "fishy" that its all taking so long. Haha..

I also have some bad news on the e-ring front. The jewelery store told my b/f it may be Nov. 1 before my stone is set in my ring. He finally told me all the details tonight. There was a delay in him getting the cash to actually order the ring, so it never got ordered until late August/early Sept. Then A. Jaffe had to custom make my setting because it was a size 3, and they only go down to a 4 normally, and my jeweler didn't want to size the ring because of the 3 prongs on the side stones. So.. I guess it is being shipped to the jeweler currently.. may take 7-10 days.. and then extra time for the setting, because they want to get a special goldsmith to do the setting of the stone (not the one they normally have employed there i guess), because everything is so small. The only thing I am really upset about is that he let me believe that he had ordered the ring at the end of July, (He actually TOLD me he did (i.e LIED to me about it) instead of just telling me that.. becuase he let me think it could be "At anytime" for the whole time when the ring hadn't even been ordered. I am not upset about the delays with A Jaffe and the jeweler, because he has no control over stuff like that. I cried for about 10 minutes when he finally told me all this... but its really only 2 more weeks. I just REALLY believed in my heart that this was my weekend. He said he'll call them tomorrow though and see if there is anyway they can "rush" the setting of the stone, after they get the setting in.




Oh well.. thats my news.. So I'll be around here for a few more weeks at least. I'm sure a few more people will get "Crossed off" before me..

oh my MelissaSue! size 3 fingers? are you sure you don't have chopsticks for fingers? I thought my finger was small at 4 1/4 but 3? And I do love your setting, all worth the wait.

The rings are so cute! And great looking nails to boot too!

But it finally happened!!

He was waiting for a day for us to go golfing since we met at a golf range. He had the ring tee'd up for me, and it is absolutely beautiful. I'm so glad I waited and didn't peek because seeing it for the first time with him was all worth it. I can't seem to take any clear pictures with my brother's dig camera even with macro mode so I'm gonna have to play around with the camera a bit and hope to take some pictures soon. Some specs of the ring...it's a 3 stone princess platinum ring...center stone 1.52 carats F VVS1 and the sides are 0.51 carats each...I'll have to get the specs off the cert later...

I can't help but stare at it...it's soo sparkly and beautiful!!!

Kaya - Yes! Pictures please!!! And a JANUARY wedding? Oh my goodness! You will sure be busy. My friends wedding is April, and the people at David's were scolding her for not having all her bridesmaid dresses ordered yet. Her one bridesmaid dress came in in like 3 weeks though. I'm jealous though. I would LOVE to be married by January.. I am waiting a whole year and a half now at least. Until May or June 2006.




Well I have a whole day of work again.. Starting at 11am at one job, and won't be done til 10pm at my other job.. But then my b/f and I are planning on going to see Team America:World Police... Which looks SOOO funny!!

You ordered the dresses in plenty of time... we ordered and had them in 3 weeks. I find their service very strange and you can ask the same question and get lots of different answers. Its almost like if you arent the bride, they dont care... but just MHO on the stores in my area. And congrats on maid of honor. Im MOH in my friends and its been fun and VERY busy. Im just as ready to get it over with next weekend as they are! But its given me the opportunity to take notes on what i want for my own wedding! The big one... nothing before 3pm!!!! Im waking up 7am to get hair/make up done and be at the church before 10am... too rushed and too early for me! But good luck, and id be happy to share ideas.

Melissa, sorry about the news - I hear you loud and clear, all of these delays are so incredibly frustrating, and I think the worst part is that it's only a big deal to us, while the boys don't understand why a week, or two weeks, or a month, makes such a difference.

Others will probably get crossed off before you, but I almost definitely won't

. I know it's not coming this weekend, and probably not the next either. I'm trying to stay upbeat, but if it gets to be November and still no ring, I'm going to lose it.

YES! My Mini is my first car. A new model, dark silver with custom striping in a dark charcoal that goes over the roof of the car. It's not stock anymore - has a modified supercharger and an aftermarket suspension. I waited *8* months for it! Worse than my wait for the e-ring

Gas mileage depends on how I'm driving it. Cruising along on the highway within a *few* miles of the speed limit, I get around 32mpg. It goes down pretty far if my fiance is driving it, I'm driving aggressively, or I'm at the track. The former two get me about 22-25mpg and the latter 10-15.

I'd be riding my bike if I weren't working in Boston. Too many SUV's with drivers on their cellphones. The past two years a few people have been killed in the area while commuting on their bikes.

Tulip - OOOOOHH.. Its even prettier than I imagined. I saw a ring like that on a Victoria's Secret Client once and was absolutely FLOORED by it. I almost fell over. And.. YOU have gorgeous hands..




Thanks to everyone for the hand compliments. I am neither a hand model OR play piano. I was a clarinet player.. even went to college for it. My fingers actually worked against me for that though because it was difficult to cover the holes with my teeny fingers. I have been asked if I played piano for about as long as I can remember though. It wasn't until I started getting my nails done in anticipation of my e-ring (in august) did I start getting "hand-model" type compliments though. I've heard it a few times since then. Without the nails my hands just look tiny and almost child-like. I call them fetus-hands. I also have a weird double-jointedness that sometimes makes them look freaky, but I have to make them do that on purpose

. My sister has the same thing, and we were freaking out all of her friends a couple weeks ago by doing all our freak-show tricks.




But yeah. Size 3 is pretty teeny. Although, when we started ring shopping, It was 3.5 and got progressively smaller with each store that sized my finger. The size 3 sizer fit on my finger though.. it was tight over my knuckle, so it makes me nervous that I'll never get my e-ring off.. But its better than having it spin around all the time like my other rings do. My new ring from Zales is actually the PERFECT size for my right hand index finger (I had it on my left in the picture, but its going to live on my right) It is just right.. No spinning, and not too tight.






My pink giant fake ring is 15mm on each side.. So.. I don't know WHAT that would convert to if it were real in carats.. but it'd be pretty freaking huge.




NJC - We all get to choose our own bridesmaid dresses from that collection. The Matron of Honor is wearing the same dress as you! It does seem pretty universally flattering. I didn't try that one on, just because I wanted something a little more fitted. And she didn't want me and the matron of honor to wear the same dress because we are gonna be next to each other..




Well its time for bed.. I ended up being at Victoria's secret til 10:30, and I have to be back there at 10 am tomorrow morning til 4pm.. then waitressing 5-10.
