Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Curly, Yay for hearing the heart beat, that's awesome.

TGal I am sorry for your scare.

Snlee you have to report back to us after your appointment, can't wait to hear all about it. Your DH is too cute!!

sk8rjenn, congrats nice to see you again!!!

Congratulations Jen! I lurk on this thread but come out once in a while.

Okay, I know I''m not pregnant yet but I''ve been watching A Baby Story this week. Today''s episode...oh, wow. Hmmm, it''s a lot to handle, isn''t it? For everyone who''s already had a baby, how did you handle the pain? I''m a huge baby myself and I have absolutely no tolerance for pain. None. I know it''s worth it but it does scare me -- the morning sickness and the giving birth parts. Does anything help? I know there''s epidurals (which I''ll gladly take but the needle does scare me)...

MrsS
Enjoy your shower this weekend then!
Definitely post pix of all the goodies you get.
I know what you mean about 4-6 wks flying by.
I thought I had more time to prepare, so I dillydallied.
What have I gotten prepped so far? NADA!
Eek, I better get the ball rolling soon,
or baby will not have anything is she comes out early.

Wow, can''t believe your sis only gained 12 lbs.
She must be teeny tiny!
I think you two should definitely do the maternity pix (even if it is non-professional).
It''s so cute with two preggo sisters!

Love the car seat by the way.

Tacori
Hope you get the quote soon.
And no, I don''t think you are spoiled.
Sheesh, I think you deserve 2 bands this time around -- one for the "push" present and another for the BF ordeal.

TGal
I wouldn''t be surprised if you have an Easter baby since you are already starting to efface.
Yikes, that was a bad scare this morning.
Thankfully, everything is good. At least you get to see Ttot one more time on a u/s (even if it is the baby''s back).
23.gif
about the unruly kid. I''d be mortified if my kid did that.

Jas12
I know, I''ll definitely miss the movements too when she comes out.
I find that she''s especially active in the early morning when I woke up.
It''s like she''s in there doing some jazzercise or soemthing.
My belly with explode with actions
9.gif

Haha, I am not that small. The picture I posted was a bit deceptive.
I was already up 20+lbs then (not like MrsS''s sister of 12 lbs at 29 wks!).
Let''s just say my boobs have the support they needed from my belly now
41.gif

Ella
Forgot if I commented on your SAHM status.
Anyway, yay!!! That''s great!

Curly
Woohoo for the heartbeat!
Not too long and you''ll know if Lily is having a little brother or sister.

Snlee
Keep us posted on your appt later.
Hope the dr will do a u/s for you.

sk8rjen
Congrats!

Hi everyone -- it''s been a while since I''ve hung out on PS regularly, but that was a side effect from shopping for/buying/moving into new home :) I''m so happy to finally get to be part of this thread -- I''ve been looking forward to it for a long time now! My EDD is 11-6-08. Good to ''see'' you all again!
jen
Congratulations Jen on the new house and pregnancy! How exciting! I''m about 2 weeks ahead of you. Looking forward to sharing this journey with you!

Jen, congratulations!!!! Join in the fun! You'll like it here--very supportive. Hope you're feeling ok. Looking forward to sharing your journey with you. Happy and healthy 9 months!

Zoe, I have one word for you. EPIDURAL!!!!!! It saved my life. I'm not scared of needles but even for people who are, this is one that you can't see so there's no reason to be scared! I felt NOTHING and that's the way I wanted it. Now morning sickness, that's another thing. Honestly, I think you only hear about people who have it really bad and from what I understand, the massive vomiting thing is not as common as you might think. Most people (like me) just have nausea and while it's annoying, it is not the most unbearable thing on earth. There are people who have it really bad and vomit constantly but I really think that's not the norm. And it passes, so morning sickness is a nuisance but it's not the worst thing so don't worry about it.

TGal, I agree with LitChick about the hands and knees thing. Do it every night or whenever you think about it. I also did a lot of cat/camel in that position--know what I mean? Get on your hands and knees and arch your back first and then curve it up. Do it a few times every night. It actually feels good and it's good for moving the baby off your spine. Also in the hands and knees position, I would lean all the way forward, arms straight in front of me on the floor and kind of sway my body from side to side--a little hard to describe but you're basically moving your midsection from side to side. Again, it makes your back and spine feel good. I hope TTot cooperates with you!

snlee, I can't wait to hear about your appointment. Good luck!!!

Tacori, I think you should get as many rings as you want. You deserve it! And I know LitChick mentioned Infant Advil for teething. We love it and use it exclusively these days instead of Tylenol but I think Tessa needs to be 6 months old before you can use it...

ellaila, you are so sweet! I love this thread!!! It's just so great to come here and read up on everyone's progress--before, during and after pregnancy. I sure do hope this one goes by fast but at the same time, I want to enjoy it since it most likely will be my last! And don't tempt me with posting pics every day!!!! You know I have them and I WILL do it!!
3.gif

Zoe - as with all things pregnancy and babies, no one agrees. So while Curly says EPIDURAL, I say DOULA!

Good luck and have a healthy and safe pregnancy! We can''t wait to hear about it as you go along.

Ok, since ella asked, I had to post a recent picture of Miss Lily. Here she is wishing all of her PS buddies a very Happy Belated Valentine''s Day!!! She was the hit at daycare that day!!!

CIMG4277.edited.jpg

Okay, sorry for the drive by (if I miss someone!)

TGal, so scary! Glad everything is okay!

Jen, Welcome. Please feel free to ask or share ANYTHING!

Zoe, it is quite painful. I had an epi but STILL had a lot of pain. But those 3-4 hours w/ heavy contrax and nothing....worst pain of my life. You just have to remember it is temporary. It is natural. It is ALL worth it in the end. I had a really rough recovery and I am still going to have another child...SOMEDAY. So that just goes to show you forget how bad it is.

Curly, yay for the heartbeat!!! I hope she isn''t teething. Not sure I am ready for that. She''s just chilling right now so maybe it was just gas. Or my friend thought maybe it was a growing pains.

MrsS, I never got the e-mails so thank you for telling me! I just spoke to Julian. The quote is a little high IMHO for just sapphires but I am still interested. The rings are very thin (more than they look) at 1.7 mm. I have never had anything that thin and feel like I might need to stack it. I thought it would be closer to 3 mm. The sizing bar is only 4 mm and he is getting back to me with engraving prices (to engrave her name or birthdate).

Curly, Lily is SO beautiful! I hope you are having another girl so you can reuse all her adorable clothes! BTW when did her eyes change?

Aw, thanks, Tacori! I think she''s pretty cute too but I''m definitely biased!
2.gif
And you know I would LOVE to have another girl precisely for that reason--Lily has the best wardrobe, I wish I could fit into her stuff! I would truly love to reuse all of it because it would be such a waste not to.

I think her eyes changed at around 5-6 months. They are still changing, if you ask me! It really depends on what she''s wearing. Some days they look really green, other times they are more brown. But they are definitely NOT blue which is sad but I knew that wouldn''t last since neither DH nor I have blue eyes.

So which model Britax does everyone suggest?

Jen--welcome and congrats!!

Tgal--yikes, scary appointment--so glad everything was a-okay!

Curly--Lily is a doll!

Zoe--i haven''t gone thru L & D yet but what has helped ease my fears is reading about process. It really is amazing what your body is designed to do without any help--totally fascinating to me--a good book will answer questions and make you feel empowered (corny sounding i know, but true)--or at least it has for me.

Lili--it''s funny how babies in the womb have activity patterns--i wonder if those will be their busy times when they are born?

Tacori--ran to the grocery store this aft and what do i see for $1 a box....cakesters!!--LOL--so for a loonie (canadian slang for one dollar!) i couldn''t go wrong. I think i like regular oreos better--but they were a nice treat :-)
.............

Here''s a promised pic of my teeny, tiny nursery in progress--i bought the glider for $20. It was brown, dirty and the cushions were covered in orange/yellow/brown plaid polyester circa 1975!

Thanks everyone for such a warm welcome! It really feels good to be back here, I''ve truly missed it. For those who don''t know me, I got married last April in Maui and am the mother of 3 boys (10,7 and 5) -- we need a girl! ;) Anyway, I''ll be back tomorrow -- I have to go catch up on last night''s IDOL and tonight''s too...

I''ll do more personals tomorrow, but I have to say Curly, Lily''s gorgeous!

For TGal-- here''s a pic from the wedding -sorry you missed the thread to begin with...I think you''ll agree with my choice of dress ;) It sure beat the heck outta the big one!

reduced 14.JPG

TGal-One more wedding pic (if I knew the link to the old thread, I''d give it to you, but I don''t have a clue how to do that) I''m sorry for briefy hijacking the thread! Back to our regulary scheduled pregnancy talk now :) (and thinking I''ll never look like that again!)

So which model Britax does everyone suggest?

Tacori, here is the review from baby center. Seems like a lot of people go for the Boulevard. I am going to pick one up during the fall sale after doing more research. New things come out all the time so I am waiting...

What are the differences between the Britax Marathon, Boulevard, and Decathlon?

“Marathon- The most basic model of the three. It harnesses to 65 lbs, rf 5 to 33 lbs. It has a rf tether, ff and rf lockoffs. Has the lever style harness adjuster, 4 harness heights, and the crotch strap does not adjust. It is very padded and comfy just like all the britax seats, and has about a million cover choices. Will last till the child is ready for a booster most likely. Good for children that need to rf still (under 33 lbs).

Decathlon- Harnesses to 65 lbs rf 5 to 33 lbs. Has rf tether, ff and rf lockoffs. The ff lockoffs may damage seatbelts. It has a push button style harness adjuster, 4 harness heights (rumor is they may be a little taller than the ma/bv), and a three position crotch strap that gives 1 more inch of room as compared to the marathon and boulevard. It has infant inserts so is great for a small baby. It also has a removeable toddler head pillow. It has more limited cover choices than a marathon. Will last till child is most likely ready for a booster. Good for very small babies because of the infant insert but a ma/bv may be a better choice for an older child that won''t need the infant insert.

Boulevard- Harness to 65 lbs, rf 5 to 33 lbs. Has rf tether, ff and rf lockoffs. It has true side impact protection (the "wings"). Has a lever style harness adjuster, and instead of having to remove the seat from the car to adjust the harness height you just turn a knob on the side of the seat, and it does not have an adjustable crotch strap. It has a removeable infant pillow so is also a good choice for a very small baby. Will last till the child is most likely ready for a booster. Good seat for any child. Especially one that will have to be on the side of a vehicle without side curtain airbags.”

Jas, we should ask Ali to unlock the nursery thread so we can keep everyone''s together. So cute though. LOVE your floors. My MIL likes the regular oreos better but I guess I like cakey things
18.gif
I love them but am trying to be well behaved. Thanks for trying them though
2.gif

Jen, hope you get that girl!

lili, trust me, you are SMALL.
2.gif

Jen, I think I did see that thread! The photos look familiar...I probably commented too Beautiful, and yes, I like your choice of dress!

Curly, thanks for that tip. I am going to go down and do that in a little bit with the ball. Hopefully I don''t fall over in a big oafy heap...

And ms lily is just such a doll. She''s always so animated. I never get sick of seeing pics of PS babies....

Jas, LOVE the nursery...you did an awesome job. Classy and cozy...just perfect!

Oh, thanks TGal. Still confusing to me. Not sure if we will buy one or wait in case something better comes out (like you) I have a feeling miss tess will fit in her chicco for QUITE awhile!

great nursery jas. i had emailed ali to unlock the nursery thread...and I think its unlocked. i just havent put pics of my nursery in there yet...its not exactly a magazine looking nursery like most of you alls!

Curly- what a cute pic- darling daughter and adorable dress...where did you find that?

jen- welcome! I look forward to hearing all about your journey!

Tgal- glad you are doing well. sounds like we may have a little one sooner than you thought!

Snlee- I hope you had a great appointment. cant wait to hear all about DH''s reactions.

I am looking at buying a britax this week while they are on sale. I just went and looked at them at BRU then emailed the professional who installs my carseats. She is the one the teaches the CHP in southern cal. she told me for my "husky" guy i would be best off with a marathon or the evenflo triumph!!!

must run off and go clean my house, some friends from chicago are arriving tomorrow.

I wonder which one would be good for my petite girl....
33.gif

Tacori, the Roundabout is the smallest one. You might want to check it out. I think the next one is the Marathon...

Jas12, your nursery is GORGEOUS!!!!! I can't believe that you got that glider for $20--you did a great job with it. LOVE IT!!!!!

BTW Jas....I have a new food obsession.....curious? It is actually one that is semi healthy! Promax protein bars.
18.gif
Maybe it is b/c I replaced my cakesters with them a month or so ago but now I crave the protein bars! I figure at least I am getting 20 g of protein along with other vitamins and minerals. Anyways, just thought I would share!

Thanks Curly....oh decisions, decisions....

Carseats: Get the biggest you can fit in your car. I have the Cosco Alpha Omega & its a 5 point harness up to 100lbs. Kids are just safer in real car seats vs. booster seats. FYI the model is also sold under the Safety 1st name & Eddie Bauer 3 in 1 name. Same seat, different fabrics. All Dorel Juvenile Group.

Zoe: You''ll be amazed at what you can do. Learn all you can about all types of childbirth. An epidural does not ensure an easy birth. Ask Tacori. As far as HOW the epi needle feels...can''t even tell...quick pinch, a moment of "whoa, that''s weird" and as soon as the thought hits your brain the sensation is gone. But I got my epidurals early, and then flew to 10cm while I either slept (baby #1) or watching Justin Timberlake on Oprah (baby #2). Talk about bringing SexyBack. I loved my epidural. But I think a natural birth is very empowering & rewarding to those who desire it. Do what you want.

Tgal: Well....while I understand Ella''s PC comment on not judging other parents, I think the hitting thing was WAY OUTTA LINE. Its not like you were judging her for giving her kid cookies while you would only feed your child organic barley or something. Jake has hit me TWICE. His wayward bootie got disciplined THAT SECOND. He has not hit since. FWIW..when he hit me I told him it was NOT OK to hit, and that he''d have to have some "alone time" in his crib to think about what he''d done & when he could be a nice boy he could come back downstairs. (I get most of my discipline ideas from a book I love called "Love & Logic, Magic of the Early Years" or something to that nature..but its discipline from 1 to 6 years of age---all the schools in my district use it for the kids) I calmly put him in his crib & he screamed this ugly, horrible, bloody murder, someone is pulling out my fingernails with a tweezer scream for 35 minutes. It was pure hell to leave him up there, but leave him up there I did, until he calmed down.

I made sure he was done crying, went into his room and asked him if he was ready to be a nice boy & reminded him it is not ok to hit anyone. (even though he was only 24 months old...I still had the convo with him, in case he understood).

He didn''t hit me again for 2 months, and when he did, I just repeated the above scenario. He only screamed for 15 minutes the second time. My ped told me that by removing him from me, that was the most effective discipline because I took the one thing away from him that he wanted most: my attention. So in essence he learned the negative attention seeking behavior has the opposite of his desired effect, and as a result, we don''t have many problems, because I tend to discipline swiftly, calmy, and consistently. And he is a good kid, so I must be doing something somewhat right at this point. I''m not perfect, but I AM consistent, and I think kids really crave consistency, it makes them feel safe to know mom & dad are in control.

FWIW, I have not been hit since, and he does not hit our dog or his sister. In fact, he holds her hand & y''day when she was crying in the stroller on the walk to the park, he was holding her hand & saying "its ok baby sister, don''t cry". My boy is an empathetic soul.

Anyway....a 3 year old who is allowed to hit is a 3 year old who is going to be trouble as he gets older. Just ask my retired teacher stepmom--kids who are allowed to be really bad wind up being "cases" once they hit school.

/sk8trjen: welcome & cpngrats!!!! haven''t seen you for awhile.....dunno if u remember me, I''m a former skater too...grew up w/ tonya h. lol....my coach invented the throw axel...
2.gif
anyway. love your wedding pics!

jas: bee-YOOOOOO-tee-ful nursery.I love the soft colors, so soothing!

Curly: Jake wants to know if Lily is free for a date on saturday. wow, what a pretty pretty girl.

tacori- i have the Britex roundabout and used it with both my girls. Chloe was in it until Lily outgrew her infant seat and i moved her into it, buying another seat for Chloe. I loved it though and am glad i kept it b/c i''ll use it for Jake. back when I bought it there were not colors and patterns like they have today so it''s a really pretty light tan. works for me,,

jas12- your nursery is beautiful.

diver- totally agree with you on the hitting thing. my girls do not hit and i promise Baby Jake will not either.

Congrats Jen on your big news!!!

Curlygirl- That's wonderful that you got to see and hear the heartbeat...what a beautiful thing!!! I am so happy for you! And Lily is so darn precious...she is such a pretty little girl!!!!!

Mrssalvo, TGal, Jas, Jas12, and Lili (hope I didnt miss anyone)- hope you are all doing well....Its really winding down for some of you!!!!

Tacori and Ella- I am so happy to hear that the kiddies are well. The pics are too cute!!!!!
1.gif

Snlee- Best of luck at your appt....so happy for you! Eph- hope youre doing well!!!!

We have the Britax Roundabout. Love it. Eventually, I will move to their booster as well. My little man (okay, his name is Miller - I have been avoiding posting his name, but I feel like I know you ladies, so there it is!) is very tall (over 36 inches at 20 months), but it still works great for him.

congrats sk8rjen!!

diver, my comments on judging weren''t about the obviously bad "no one can deny this is wrong" things like not disciplining your child for hitting, etc. i was talking more about saying, "well *I* would never [givemy child a paci/let him sleep in a swing/leave him with a bbysitter at a young age/etc.] like so-and-so is doing ... " -- those things are easy to say when you''re not a parent, but once you''re in the situation, you''ll do what you have to to make things work!

snlee, how''d the appt go??

jas, omg, can i sleep in that nursery??? Gor.Geous!!! so pretty and soothing .... great job, mama!!

tgal, we actually did get the BOB as a gift from my dad from REI but wr''re waiting for q''s 20% off coupon and we''re going to return it and rebuy it w/the coupon (hey, it''s $100+)!
36.gif

curly, i feel like a broken record but ms lily is a stunner!

Thanks for the nice comments on the nursery gals--i tried to do it sooo cheaply b/c we plan to sell soon and didn''t want to paint murals or anything--glad to hear it doesn''t look what it cost
4.gif

Tacori--so i left my box of cakesters in the car overnight and on my way to work decided i should have one--it''s currently -30 so it was frozen solid, but guess what? That made it taste like a cross b/w like a big chewy oreo and oreo icecream!. I think i may be onto something here--haha-
Promax bars eh? Well, my friend is a distributor and we get box loads of them for free. My class LUVS them--so funny, i can get them to do math puzzles with promax rewards. I OD''d on those a few years ago, but i heard they have really good new flavours out.
.............

So is it weird that i am excited to see my OB this aft? I think i am mostly happy to cross another appnt off the list.

Agree with no-tolerance re: hitting. I have 4 cousins who were raised by parents who believed they should be "free spirits" (their exact words) to them that meant no set bed or nap time, no food, T.V., toy restrictions, and no clear boundaries with behaviour and language. These kids today: all 4 of them are self-centered, uninteresting, spoiled, poorly adjusted young adults. Hardly the creative, successful and independent ppl they were ''intended'' to be. I know that sounds harsh, and I agree judging is not a nice thing to do--but i do think there are some general rules out there. No set way to encourage or enforce them, but general principles of respect and consideration that should happen from day one.
