Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

jen, thanks for checking in. I'm glad your family adopted a kitty in need of a home. I hope you and your family enjoy your time with Pluto (I like his name)! Have fun at you baby shower tomorrow!

It's reassuring to see that eph probably bought some more baby stuff. I hope she checks in soon. I really miss her!

I''m also glad Eph seems to be fine out there!

Jen I think it''s great you got a new cat, it isn''t too soon, everyone deals with the loss of a pet differently and many people get a new one right away.

So I finally needed to buy new bras since my (*)(*) are bigger and the underwire was bugging me. Well I went to my favourite specialty bra shop and got a wonderful bra that has NO underwire. I was a DD cup before becoming pregnant, and now I am.... drum roll please... a G cup!!
23.gif
Apparently they carry nursing bras us to a J cup so I should be okay as long as my boobs don''t get bigger than my head

I know that a lot of us here are taking prenatal vitamins, so I wanted to share an FDA study that was just posted on Fertility Friend. This study evaluates levels of lead exposure in vitamins, including prenatal vitamins. Imagine my surprise and unhappiness when I discovered that the brand I take: Rainbow Light Complete Prenatal System has 6.5 times the daily recommended lead exposure level (0.5ug a day for lead as a reproductive toxicant)

So I don''t mean to alarm anyone, but if any of you are taking a prenatal listed in the higher levels, you may consider switching.

I didn't read the whole thing at all, so I am sorry if I missed something, but where are you getting the info that these vitamins contain a much higher than safe level?

It says: "Estimates of Pb exposures for all products were below the PTTI levels for the at-risk population groups of children, pregnant and lactating women and adult women", where PTTI levels are the "safe/tolerable exposure levels". Sounds like everything they tested was below it?
33.gif

ETA: I just skimmed the original study they cited and came to the same conclusion...they don't seem to think anything they found is a risk. So I am curious where the .5ug/day value is coming from when they say in the paper that the PTTI for pregnant women is 25 ug/day...

Even if you go by much much stricter standards like in Calif's Prop 65 safe harbor exemption (and I can't find any evidence to support this really...) you still should be more than fine taking most of these under normal circumstances. The body doesn't absorb most of the lead it ingests...it passes almost all of it.

Hi Neatfreak, I am going by California''s Proposition 65 Safe Harbor Levels. Here is the link to their levels.

http://www.oehha.ca.gov/prop65/pdf/2008MayStatusReport.pdf

Under section B -- "Maximum Allowable Dose Levels (MADL) Adpoted in Regulation for Chemicals Causing Reproductive Toxicity." In that section, you''ll see that the level for lead is 0.5 micrograms a day. The FDA allows for a higher level of lead exposure as safe, as you stated.

Personally, I would prefer to take a multivitamin with a lower lead content, which is what I chose to do. I also wanted to share this message with ladies so they could make that decision for themselves as well, if they wanted to. If you''re not worried about it, there is obviously no need to switch your multivitamin. I definitely didn''t come here to debate toxicity levels, but posted this for those who might be interested.

Lindsey, no worries, I am not trying to debate with you, only to mention that there is another side to the story, that''s all. I was genuinely confused where the .5 number was coming from considering that all the literature that you linked to said otherwise. That''s all. We''re a group of ladies here who also like to have all our facts before we make decisions, and I found some more to consider.

Thanks, snlee and DD!

Jen, congrats on the new addition to your family.

Hope Eph''s doing well...

DD, I''m a little in shock at the size of your (*)(*). Yowzas.

Hi Guys. Hop you all had a great weekend. Mine has been nice and relaxing. Just the way I like it. Thought I would try to catch up with everyone.

Snlee I am sorry to hear that the other ob extended your bedrest. I am sure that is not what you wanted to hear. You have a good attitude about it though- I agree I would not want my dh away and go into labor! scary.
Just curious if you don''t mind sharing, what didn''t your ob agree with in your birth plan? I know it''s early but I am thinking about mine. I am still going to go with a doula although I wasn''t sure for a couple of days b/c I was picturing i would have to be induced or c-sec or something. but apparently not.
What have you been keeping busy with these days? I hope you are finding things to keep your mind busy that are enjoyable for you. Did you take any classes for labor? I can''t remember. I am interested to look at that video curlygirl and kay were talking about the other day.

Kay thanks for the kind words about my l.o. Things have been easier over the last week and I have been getting more used to how things may be when the baby is born. Plus we had another echo on Tues and it seemed like the 2nd cardiologist was more positive about how the baby''s heart was doing and some other stuff(still has a defect but maybe not the pumonary atresia part which sounds scarier/needs more surgeries.
How are you feeling? Gosh you must be getting closer? I think you said your shower was this weekend? Hope it was lots of fun.

dd that is great news that you will be able to take a full year if you want after the baby is born. Soooooo exciting. And exciting that you felt the baby move!!! It is a little confusing at first but I bet it is what you think it is. Horray!!!!!

JanineGirly Wow it is just around the corner until you will hold your baby! How exciting for you! I am glad you are gonna be able to work from home. That is good news. Hope you are feeling a little calmer since you last posted about being a bit scared. I had a super bad gas pain yesterday and I couldn''t walk or stand up straight. I was paralyzed in place and that was only from gas!!!!!! Believe you me I started wondering again how the heck I am supposed to handle labor(thinking I want to do it drug free) when I can''t even handle gas pain??????? Yikes!!!!
Oh on that note, does round ligament pain feel like gas pain at all? Does it hurt alot? I was thinking maybe it was that and not gas becasue I got up quick to let the dog out and then when I turned from the door, I kinda had this shooting pain all the sudden?
JG I just skipped ahead and saw you had a trip to the hospital. sorry it was scary for you and I hope the real deal goes smoother for you.

SBDE glad to hear your appt. went well and your weight gain sounds good! are you feeling the baby yet? It should be coming soon and it''s really fun!!!

LIA I hope the work is almost finished on your house. That must be so annoying. It sounds like you got similar news to snlee about the bedrest extension. Sorry but I know its gonna be good for both of your babies. Still not fun for you and Snlee.

Tgal, tacori, diva, jas12 and anyother btdt mom who replied thanks for sharing your experience with us on labor and the other stuff too! It is reassuring to hear it from ppl who have been through it and we love when you guys share with us.

llysser I read that you are feeling down on ttc I think and here. I am thinking of you and hoping you are feeling a bit better. The girls here are so supportive so please post whenver you are feeling blue or feeling great. Everyone responds differently to going through a m/c. For me it was very difficult even though I found out at 9 weeks that things were not a go. I was a little self conscious b/c I felt like I should be able to get over it since i wasn''t very far along. Try to just accept wherever you are at and know it''s all normal. We are all thinking of you. And I am glad your dh is being so supportive. I know that helped me alot too. Take care.

Blen that is great news about your boss/promotion! Yay!!!

Jen glad to hear you are ok. hope you enjoy your shower! It sounds fun. Yay for the new kitty!!! how fun.

Hope you guys are right about Eph and she is just super busy.

I think I will get the chromosome results on Monday as I missed a message from the genetics counselor friday after noon and it was too late to talk to her. boo hiss. but she did say they looked good and she would give me the details when we talked. I am hoping this means the q22 fish part is back to rule out digeorge but I am a little scared to get ahead of myself. I will let you guys know though.
Also the baby (we) had an echo on tues and they say some good stuff like better pulmonary arter blood flow(i think I am repeating myself now, sorry) and two arteries one vein in the umbilical cord which they told me is good news cause if that is not correct I guess it can mean other things ar not correct too? I felt pretty good after our appt. My dh too.
thanks again for the support from all of you I really appreciate it. Oh and dh felt 3 strong kicks from the little guy. He was really excited. It was cute. Oh and one more thing, one of the pedis'' from my office called me in to talk to him and showed me a chart of a 2 mo old that was doing great/growing, etc. and then told me he had a history of tetralogy of fallot and had already been repaired. He was on his way back to the philipines since he was doing so great. It was such a nice story to hear. There are different degrees of the defect but I am happy to think positive!!!! Isn''t that cool?

Looks like I''m joining you ladies...

Congratulations and welcome Pandora!

Pandora, congrats! Hope you are feeling well. What does the "1-2" mean? My digi didn't have that.

Pave, hope I don't scare anyone!
12.gif
My point is even if there are complications, stitches, poop on the table once you are holding your baby that stuff doesn't matter anymore! Good luck!

I''m 100% symptomless - other than feeling very tired!

The UK digis also tell you how pg you are. 1-2 is three to 4 weeks, 3-4 is five to six weeks and 4+ is six weeks plus. DH asked if after that it just said ''for goodness sake go and buy a cot!''

I gave him the digi and a copy of the Bloke''s Guide to Pregnancy all wrapped up with bows on. He was out this morning so PS knew first!

I''m mentally preparing myself not to be too upset if things don''t continue - at least we know we can.

Yay, congrats Pandora, how exciting!!!

dreamer, yay for feeling the baby move! You made my LOL at your boob story. Hopefully they don't get that much bigger!

pave, I am glad you received some better news and hope you hear more good news tomorrow too. That is great to hear stories about healthy babies. Keep up your positive attitude! Your little boy is in my thoughts as well. The shooting pain may be ligament pain. I believe it happens when you get up/move too quickly. Yay for feeling lots of baby movements. It's nice to share it with your DH. Regarding my birth plan - issues like rupturing the membrane and giving Pitocin to deliver the placenta. I didn't want this done but my doctor said it may be necessary.

Pandora, wow, those digital tests are so detailed now. Never knew there were ones that told you approximately how far along you were. Lots of sticky dust to you!

PANDORA! Congrats girl and WELCOME!!!

Everyone else I can''t wait to catch up...my mom is in town, so I''ll do a big catch up tomorrow!

PANDORA: CONGRATS!! i''m so excited for you to join us over!!

Pave: GREAT news! i''ll be keeping my fingers x''d for you on the final chromosome news too...

DD: you are too funny! that DOES sound like the baby moving. isn''t it just the coolest thing ever?

Jen: congrats on the newest addition. it sound like you completely made the right choice for your family. i''d love to see some pics!!

Snlee: gosh, the end is really in sight! i''m so excited for you!

this is just a quickie. i had a bit of a rough weekend. NOT preterm stuff, just emotionally. dh was gone a lot of the day yesterday, and i was just feeling really down. i keep encouraging him to continue to live his life so he doesn''t have to sit around with me ALL the time (so he played golf and had a football game to go to last night). but for some reason, in between his activities i just totally broke down. i couldn''t stop crying! truly pathetic!! i''m already about 4.5 weeks in to bedrest and have 4-5 to go! so more than 1/2 way, but it''s definitely daunting. i AM feeling better today though... DH, in an effort to cheer me up, packed me in the car and took me to run errands with him. it was really cute...we went to target and he dropped me off out front and i went and sat in the eating area while he shopped. he called me about 15 times from the baby area with questions on what to get. then he got really overwhelmed and did''nt buy anything!!! oh well. i''ll do it online. :)

that''s all for now. back to the knitting. as usual. :)

xo, LIA
30wks, 5 days

Oh LIA, I''m so sorry you had a bad day! I know you want your hubby to have a normal life, but at the same time, you don''t need to be a martyr! I think in these circumstances it is totally okay for you to want him to spend time with you on the weekends and in the evenings. I am not on bed rest, but for some reason now that I am preggo I really miss DH more when he golfs (2-3 times a week). I used to like when he was gone so I could have some time to myself, but now I find I feel lonely and it is much harder. I think there is something hormonal and biological when you are preggo t owant your "protector" near you. It feels animalistic, the way I want him around and also don''t want to walk the dogs alone at night anymore in my very safe neighborhood! LOL! It is only a few more weeks, maybe its better for you to just ask him to be with you? I''m sure he wants to be with you more than anything right now! His cavemen instrincts are probably telling him to protect you from the wildabeasts too!

LIA, I''m sorry to hear about your emotionally rough weekend. I''ve had those moments. I blame the crying on the wacky hormones! That is really cute and sweet of your DH to take you "out" to try and cheer you up.
1.gif
Hang in there girl! You will get through this and it''ll be all worth it! What have you been knitting? I''d love to see some pictures!

Not much going on with me. I''ve been a little uncomfortable lately. The baby''s hand(?) is often jabbed in my pelvic area and I''ve been feeling lots of kicks to my rib. Sometimes he''ll just leave his foot near there and I try pushing it back in! Owwweee! And I get so full easily now. The food seems to sit really high, near my throat after I finish eating, and sometimes feels like it''ll come back up!
40.gif
Uncomfortable and sounds really gross! Thankfully no heartburn.

I''m ALMOST done with my cross stitch. It should be completed by the time I''m off bed rest and then DH and I can go shopping for a nice frame.

Since you wanted to see some pictures LIA, here are a few things I received at my baby shower (aside from the regular baby clothes and registry items)...

quilt my mom made

a few things my aunt knit.

One last picture that cracks me up and is perfect for PS!

Me with my new hat (made with all the ribbons and bows from the presents) and my niece staring at my rings. I think we may have a future PSer.

Congrats Pandora!!!!

Snlee, those are awesome pictures!

Lia -- Hugs.

To all, I''m waaay behind on this thread, but thank you all for the kind wishes and thoughts.

Motherhood is all kinds of awesome. I have two really great babies who are not excessive criers (although they are excessive poopers). Lil Logan lost his belly button already, and I was amazingly sad about it.

The bris was traumatic for me...I sobbed through a lot of it. Heh.

I''ll try to check in more regularly now that we have a bit of a routine down...but I''ve been keeping apace and reading to check in on y''all. At some point this week, I''ll follow up my part one with part two of the labor, delivery, and recovery story.

All I can say is that for all the discomfort, worry, fear, anxiety, nervousness about everything, including losing my "identity" -- I can honestly say that they were worth it. And as far as my identity, "mother" is just added to the list, not replacing anything. But it is at the top.

For giggles, more shots

Finally, to show that my babies can be upright...

jas you are killing me. They are so completely adorable.

And YOU look fabulous I must say!!!! Whatever you are doing is working.

jackie, good to see you! I''ve been thinking a lot about you and the twins. So happy to hear things are going well. Your post about motherhood and the twins pictures made me teary eyed. The boys are soooo adorable! I love seeing twin pictures, especially newborns snuggled up next to each other. So precious! And YOU mama, look FABULOUS! I can''t believe you gave birth to twins less than 2 weeks ago! You look amazing! Can''t wait to read part two!

Oh Jackie, your twins are sooooo adorable. Glad to hear all is going well. You look amazing!!!! How fun!!!
