Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Sapphire- thanks for the info! The ones u described sound so nice and exactly what I want...im thinkin rainbow and something else...I will def look into that..not too many craft stores where im from but I will look. Thanks again

Fiery- thanks for the online info I love shopping online :)
I love the mama story...I feel the same way..even when im on bedrest she comes with food and then I hear the kitchen sink runnin and im yellin ..don''t wash dishes I have a dishweasher! She sayd she not but she is and that drives me nuts (I only use dishwasher hate hand washes)....but u gotta love them they just care and do so much to try to make our lives easier...that''s what I learn from my mom....no matter how U feel u have to do everything u can to make ur child''s life a little easier!
Don''t feel bad about wanting mom...I would feel the same exact way!

Fiery - your new avi is great. I love Victoria but can definitely understand your reasoning as to why not to use it - we crossed Emily off the list for the same reason, actually, so I have a hard time looking at it objectively
1.gif
. If you haven''t gone out to get the baby name book yet, can I put in another plug for "Beyond Jennfier and Jason, Madison and Montana"? Instead of just being an alphabetical list of every name out there (which you can just find online), it has a bunch of smaller lists of names that have various things in common. So you could look up Emily and Victoria in the back, go through the lists that they appear on, and see if any of those other names appeal to both of you. I''d also recommend checking our nymbler.com if you haven''t already. Of course, you do have plenty of time.

And your mom - wow. Although it could be good to get her to come over when you''re getting close to full term and really want to nest but just don''t have the energy. You could put your feet up and have her rearrange the kitchen cabinets and pantry (my latest thing), or the laundry room (which is actually what I want to tackle next).

Puffy, thanks!

Robbie - yay for bras that fit!!

Cara - thanks for posting that link. I watched the footage for our carseat and while it looked scary, it functioned as it should. Phew.

NF - we have the same carseat, so I''m really glad that you like it so much!

Phoenix - sorry you''re feeling blah.

Hello, thought I''d delurk and post this PSA here since you all might actually be buying carseats soon.

Here is an article in the Chicago Tribune on crash test results for baby car seats conducted in actual cars. They differ somewhat, and not in a good way, from crash tests conducted on sleds, which is apparently the industry standard method of testing. In the car tests, some of the baby seats came separated from their base, or the baby seat hit the front seats of the car, causing injury to the baby dummy, in a way not seen in the sled crash tests.

And here is the chart summarizing the car test results for the seats.

Is anyone else completely confused by the results of this report?
33.gif
We registered for the Graco Safeseat and in one of the 6 tests they did on it, it came out of the base in a crash. They tested the Snugride more times and in more vehicles and it didn''t come out at all. It looks like they tested the Chicco Keyfit that Neat recommended once and it didn''t come out of the base. It all just seems kind of random and I guess I''m not really understanding how much the car used in the test has to do with it. None of the tests used either car that we have.

I think the only real results we can take from that study is that perhaps the car seat companies need to test the seats in real cars and not on the sled seats. It didn''t seem very methodical in the number of tests, the consistency of cars that were tested, etc.

But speaking of car seats, I jumped on the woot.com deal and bought the recaro como convertible car seat for $99.99! This is our first big baby purchase, and I''m really excited! My dh was adamant that he didn''t want to register for a convertible seat since we are definitely registering for a travel system with an infant seat, and he is really worried we will come of as greedy or something. I''m of the opinion that we should register for whatever we could possible want and people will buy us what the WANT to buy us, and then we can buy whatever else we need, but he disagrees. So I figured if we were going to buy a convertible one anyway, might as well grab a good deal!

I will second NF and say we loved out Chicco Keyfit infant carrier. There is a reason it is so popular. Safety first and all that. If I could do it over again I would have just got that instead of the full travel system since I used my beloved snap ''n go until we moved her into her britax. Whatever you ladies decide have the front button (under the buckle) to adjust the straps is SO nice! Be sure your car seat has that. Otherwise you have to adjust them from the back (PITA).

I have just made a decision . . . hopefully DH will agree!

We live in a small row house from the teens. We have two real bedrooms and a "trunk room," which real estate listings love to describe as "perfect for an office or nursery." We always planned to make the small room (about 7 by 10) into the baby''s room and keep the guest room. But how often do we have guests? As long as the bed and a nightstand fit in the small room, do I care if the bed takes up the whole room?

I just don''t want to cram the poor baby into this tiny room just to keep the a big old room empty. I know what will happen; the baby''s stuff will spill into that room. I''ll feel better if I keep the spaces separate. The trunk room doesn''t even have a closet so fitting the baby''s clothes and everything in there will be tight. In the big bedroom we''d have room to make a play area in the bedroom . . . have bookcases and toy chests and all that.

When my dad was alive, it made more sense to have a big room for guests, but my mom can manage in a smaller room and still be comfortable. It makes me sad to think about how that''s changed, but it has. I feel a lot better when I envision the baby in the bigger room. We have friends who have one more bedroom than us, and the trunk room had already been made into the laundry room. Well, instead of giving up their guest room or their office when they had their first child, they put the baby in the tiny laundry room! Now she''s 3 and she still lives in the laundry room (her brother got the guest room). We always made fun of them for valuing their space so much that they just threw their baby in the laundry room. I would pull out a drawer and say to DH, "Hey, don''t you think we could fit a baby in here?"

I am still icky nauesated! Like bad hangover nauseated! And I''m craving all the same things I crave with a hangover: greasy meat. Ew! I just ate three sausage biscuits.

Sabine, just so you know it has a DOM of 2007 so that is something consider.

Greetings all!

DH took me off to The Baby Show here in London yesterday and we both enjoyed it more than we expected.

First of all we got some potentially fantastic news because of it: they had an employment law stand with free legal advice, so we thought we''d take advantage and get another opinion on our case. They thought it sounded very strong and that the lawyer I''m using sounded very suitable as it was a barrister case rather than a normal solicitor one due to being pretty complex.

Their lawyer then asked if we had house insurance and if so had we checked with them about our legal fees being covered. So, DH called the insurance company and it looks like we have up to £25k of legal fees covered plus I can use the lawyer I want. They took a load of details from me about the case and I may have to have a meeting with them, but we get confirmation that they will pay the bills in 3 days time.

I can''t tell you what a relief it will be if they are covered! (Also got an email from my lawyer this morning saying that he''s really sorry for me about the situation - but that he really enjoyed hearing about it and is happy to take it on! He''s freelance and can really pick and choose his cases so I''m over the moon).

I bought a few bits and pieces - a Cuddledry Baby Towel; some bamboo fabric maternity trousers, T-shirts and a dress for me and a stripy babygro for the sprog; a playmat with beautiful Winnie the Pooh illustrations (the originals not the Disney ones) and a matching Grobag-type sleeping bag.

My back was seriously driving me crazy and I''ve buggered up the femoral nerve in my leg by holding my spine funny so I was relieved that they had loads of places you could sit down there. At one place they had a load of gliders including one that reclined to three different positions and came with an amazing heated massage cushion that was seriously well-designed and moves up and down your spine (I have tried so many of them and rarely found a good one). I was so impressed that I actually asked the price and both DH and I nearly died when we found out what it was - about a tenth of what we were expecting! So DH bought me a little present as a suprise and the chair is arriving next week
1.gif
- sadly the massage cushion won''t arrive until April.
15.gif

We also made a decision on the pram - and shock... we''re not going with the Bugaboo Bee...

I finally got a chance to see the Stokke Xplory in person and I was so impressed - it made a huge difference to me that I don''t have to bend down to use it. It also isn''t that much heavier than the Bee - the price is more, but there are less accessories that you ''have'' to buy. It''s also compatible with the carseat I like.

I looked online when I got home and found a package with the pram plus the Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix carseat plus the adaptors for a lot less that the normal price just for the pram. Total saving is around £200 GBP. Hooray!

Also found the Easyfix base for the Cabriofix on Amazon with £40 GBP off. We have Isofix in the car so I refuse to mess about with seatbelt bases.

I think we have different safety ratings for carseats over here as I haven''t seen any of you talking about the Maxi-Cosi which tops the ratings in the UK - it seems the regulations are different for most things though (I was talking to the UK importer for the Arm''sreach Co-sleeper yesterday about why the mini isn''t available here yet and apparently it has to be completely redesigned to meet UK fire retardant rules. I always thought that the USA would be more stringent since people don''t normally sue over here!)

So, all in all it was a good day and cheered me up a bit. Otherwise just spent all my time working on the sodding dossier...

Courtney - Glad to hear that your pain doc was able to reassure you a bit - did she have any useful hints or tips at all?

Fiery - I really like Emily, it was one of my top ten but DH didn''t like it. Victoria is nice too - I like the traditional old fashioned names a lot.

LL - Congrats on the BOY and great news on the test results - it must be so reassuring!

Phoenix - commiserations on the m/s - I really recommend getting something for it as it''s just miserable feeling like that. Made a huge difference to me - even if I still only wanted to eat apples!

I''m sure I''ve missed loads of people...

Off to the physio tomorrow who will hopefully have this maternity corset doodah for me to try...

Pandora
28 weeks 5 days (and seriously fed up of being beaten up from the inside - I have bruises!)

Here''s a pic of the Xplory - I''m thinking we''ll probably get it in black although I do like the green:

Sabine, just so you know it has a DOM of 2007 so that is something consider.

Yeah that is what stopped us.

Pandora We do have the Maxi-Cosi here but it's very new and also doesn't fit many of the strollers we have here which I think is why it doesn't do as well. I wanted it but the lack of reviews on the US one coupled with the fact that it theoretically wouldn't work with our stroller AND I found a few reviews that said the keyfit was better, so we ended up with that instead. But they are very cute!

Ah ha, that makes sense - here it''s almost impossible to find anything but the Maxi Cosi (it''s been out for years here) if you want to compare brands in person, plus it fits just about all makes of pram, hence why I was suprised it was never mentioned. Gracco and Brittax are the next most popular brands over here I think.

I always thought that products by the same companies with the same names were the same worldwide, but it appears there are quite big differences...

Thanks for the thoughts on the names!

Phoenix-that sounds like a good idea IMO especially if you know you don't get that many guests. My mom and I were talking about the second bedroom this weekend. I had originally wanted to purchase a small daybed so that when I have visitors, they have somewhere to sleep instead of the uncomfortable sleeper in the living room. She told me not to. We can just figure out how to accomodate everyone when the time comes.

Mrs-How are you feeling?

Side note: I have a nursery inspiration photo that I got off of google images. I just realized its a babies-r-us room and a bananafish set. Yeah...the curtains alone are $60

Mela - I just saw your Bugaboo pictures, I love the red! I got mine in pink but bought a cover for it.

Blenheim - I love your preggo belly! Just a few more weeks to go!

robbie - I am going to have to check out that bra. I bought some new bras last week, I measure at 35 inches so I wear a 36 band size. Well last week I bought some 38DDs and they fit great in the store, but wearing them around a lot, the band STILL cuts into me because I guess I''m short and my belly is poking up by my rib cage now. I''m thinking about just buying nursing bras now. I''ve seen good reviews for Bravado nursing bras, does anyone else have any recommendations?

fiery - Congratulations on a little girl! It is definitely fun to start referring to the sex, sometimes it can make the baby feel less "abstract." Although, I still feel a huge disconnect imagining that there is a real baby in there
2.gif

Pandora - The Stokke Xplory is really neat -- I saw one in the mall around Christmas and really loved how high up the baby sat. It felt like it would be so interactive for the child! We bought the Maxi Cosi infant car seat because of the safety ratings. neatfreak mentioned that the Maxi Cosi is not as popular here in the US which is true, because of the reasons she gave. It''s not as compatible with a lot of the baby gear and strollers such as the Graco car seat which is VERY popular here. We have a Bugaboo stroller which does have adapters available for the Maxi Cosi car seat but we don''t plan on using them.

It''s been so long since I''ve really caught up here, we have a snow day today so it''s nice to be home. Even though I don''t post much I read this thread every day! Miss Natalie is doing great. The perinatalist is amazed at how well she is doing even though my antibody levels continue to rise. She''s showing no signs of stress or anemia, and her brain blood flow is great, it''s not elevated at all. My C-section date is exactly 8 weeks from today, I can''t believe it!

The nursery is just starting to come together. It''s been painted and we moved the furniture in, and this weekend we installed her closet system. Her curtains and bedding should arrive this week so I should be able to decorate soon. I am absolutely dying to have all of her things washed and put away. My shower is this weekend, so I think that next week I''ll really have a lot of her things. I''m going to post some pics now to catch up!

Natalie''s crib -- can''t wait for the bedding to get here!

nat_room1.JPG

Changing table and rocking chair. We painted her room aqua blue. Everyone has told me "it looks like a boy''s room!" But I really like the blue!

nat_room2.JPG

Closet system from The Container Store. It was sooo easy to put together, the husband and I are not handy at all. The pieces are easy to move around. I''ve ordered one more shelf for it which should arrive this week. I want to buy some pretty bins to put on the shelves so that it looks put together.

Natalie''s stroller. Mela I had to post my own stroller ****!

Andddd Miss Natalie sticking out her tongue! At the ultrasound last week, once they finished her blood flow measurements they turned on the 4D feature to get a peak at her face. What was she doing? She was sticking out her tongue! We all had a good laugh and they managed to capture it in one of the US photos. Too funny!

**De-lurking to say Lindsay I LOVE your nursery!!!***

I love the black furniture against the color blue you chose! I don't think it looks like a boy room at all, it looks very elegant and clean. Love the stroller to0 btw. Do you mind telling me who makes it? I'm still TTC but have tons of things I like in a folder on my computer.

ETA: Just saw your pic of Natalie sticking out her tongue!! Too precious! She is beautiful!

Lindsay-that color is phenomenal! What brand did you use?? What a gorgeous color!! The nursery looks great, very modern and clean. I love it.

Also, I’m *loving* the stroller.

Oh Lindsey - DRROOOOOL FEST! I don''t know what''s better? That delicious Bugaboo or your little Natalie''s tounge!! SO CUTE! What a character already. Glad to hear about your levels and that your lurking here.
2.gif
We miss you! I wanted to ask you...where did you order those amazing burp clothes? the yellow ones and the pink floral? I love them so much more than all the generic "cirle" prints. I''d love to order some too! Your nursery looks Great! I love that fresh blue. Natalie will too ;)
We''ve registered for a Bugaboo cover too - the black and white damask print. Love the covers!

Pandora - glad to hear you''ve made some progress with the legal bills. What PITA! Hopefully it''ll all wrap up before Daisy arrives. I love your "new" stroller decision. VERY cool!

Blen - I feel like I''m carrying very much like your "new" lowered position. I don''t know if that means your baby has dropped. I''m no expert, but my baby has been sitting THAT LOW this whole time. Right on my bladder and all my kicks are way below my naval. My pelvis goes numb a lot from the baby''s pressure. It''s weird. I''m interested to see what your middie says - if you''ve truly dropped or what? I''m going to ask next appt what gives. I''m hoping my baby will ''raise up'' soon and give me some relief. It''s not that it hurts, it''s just SO low...!! Nuts how many contractions you''ve had. I''ve only ever had ONE BH. ONE! haha. When do you see Middie again?

I also want to know. How can you tell what body part is what? I try so hard to identify parts, but I''m just not sure?! I know what a butt feels like....but that''s about it! lol.

Robbie - Big success on the bras! good for you and your tatas!

Fiery - Awwwwwwww. Your mom story made me saddies. I love my mom so much too.
4.gif

PhoenixGirl - I had TERRIBLE nausea too, with no vomiting. Mine lasted until week 16. Carbs and protein helped me stay full longer; which was good because empty tummy made the nausea worse. Hang in there!

Thats about it for me. Cannot believe how close some of you are!

Mela 28w3d

InLuv - The stroller is a Bugaboo Cameleon and the cover is by a company called Mama-La.

fiery - The paint color is Benjamin Moore 737 -- Sonoma Skies. It''s a very intense aqua -- I had it reduced by 50%. My inspiration was the photo that I attached, which is a truer image of the color (the dining room is Sonoma Skies also reduced by 50%.) The pictures I attached were taken on my iphone and it''s cloudy outside, so my pictures make the color look darker than it is.

Mela - is the black damask cover from Mama-La? If so, I actually saw it in person a few weeks ago -- I saw it strolling around the mall! I love damask and it looked great. I think that you can''t go wrong with any damask print!

I bought those burp cloths here:
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5169508

Honestly there are soooo many sellers on Etsy that make burp cloths, in any print that you can imagine. If you''re loving damask do a search for that, I found a ton! Lovely
1.gif
These are pretty -- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_list_14&listing_id=20378001&ga_search_query=damask+burp&ga_search_type=tag_title

Linds- absolutley looove everything!...love colors and stroller and what a tongue and face ..gorge! I hate pinky stuff so nice to see modern and elegant colors.!

I had mri today (what tortue holding breath ugh)..and 1st NST...so will get results on wed....im pooped

NYC - good luck!! :)

Linds - thanks for the links! I'm going to get shopping! lol. My Canopy is made by "bonne bonnets". I don't know if it's a true Damask print but that's what the stores call it.

Lindsey What a cute nursery!! I love it!!

I hope everyone else is doing great!!. I''m finally starting to come to terms with the fact that I am in fact pregnant. Still sounds crazy to say it!. I don''t really have any symptoms other than being a little tired, VERY thirsty (thus peeing a lot!) and my (*)(*)''s just started to get a little bit tender, not much though. No nausea morning sickness, etc....hopefully it will continue that way!
9.gif

Does anyone suffer from excema/dermatitis? If so what do you use? I was reading that I can''t really use the topical cream I usually use (Halobetasol 0.05%...it has cortisones or something) and it''s starting to flare up!. I already called the Dr but I have a feeling he''s going to say it''s fine...apparently everything is fine to him which now has me wondering if maybe this is not *the* Dr...

Have a great week everyone!

M~

I just tried to got to my prenatal orientation appointment, but the doctor''s office was closed! I''m going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they called the home phone, but with the power out the message would have gone to voicemail and I only check the answering machine. How annoying! It''s not THAT BAD out! I mean, it''s bad, but it''s not close the doctor''s office bad! Somehow DH and I managed to make it out there in one piece. Yeesh.

So on our way back to the car I said to DH, "How will I know what I''m supposed to do now without orientation? Want to go get some sushi?" And DH said, "Yeah, and you can have sake too!"

Ugh. It''s not easy as a teacher to schedule appointments. I wonder if they''ll have me reschedule or just wait until my first real appointment in 3 weeks. We ran into a nurse from the practice in the elevator, and she said that their "server was down" and they were canceling all of tomorrow''s appointments too. I really don''t get it. Aren''t the really important businesses, like ob/gyns attached to hospitals, supposed to be able to stay open?

It actually was pretty tough driving though. I went out for dinner last night and we were fish-tailing and my anti-lock brakes kicked in; I never went over 15 MPH. This morning my FIL came and picked me and DH''s step-sister up since our power was out (restored shortly thereafter, thank goodness!), and he had real difficulty getting around his hilly, wooded neighborhood. But it''s still annoying. I was really hoping to get some kind of remedy for my morning sickness. The feeling of horrible hangover continues. Must keep repeating to self: icky feeling for baby''s sake is good. Icky feeling for baby''s sake is good. . .

Cute u/s! Maybe you aren't paranoid about these things though, but it has what I think is your daughter's full name on it?

ETA, I mean your name!

Oh my goodness! Go away for a long weekend and you miss so much!

NYCBK- so glad your babies are still sitting tight in there and growing, growing, growing!!! I think about you all the time and send you wishes of happily-safe-and-baking babes!

Fiery- YAY!!! on a sweet little baby girl! Looking forward to hearing about your quest for the perfect name!

You guys all have the cutest baby bellies. Blen- I do think yours looks to be sitting a bit lower than in your previous pics. Have you tried comparing them side-by-side? You''re getting so close now! Have you finalized your bay/girl name choices?

Lysser- such great news about your CVS results! What a relief to know there is a healthy, happy baby BOY in there!!!! I''m really happy for you!

Pandora- a bit late on the opinion, but I too would not go to the wedding. Have you decided what to do about it? So glad to hear that your barrister is optimistic about your case, and so envious of your trip to the baby fair!! Sounds like fun! LOVE your stroller! Since you are in the UK, I was hoping you might have seen/tried the Micralite Newborn Plus System? It is available here in the US, but not anywhere near me and I can''t find many reviews on it. I love that it goes from bassinet stroller to a lightweight pseudo-umbrella style stroller, and is also carseat adaptable. Any feedback?

Mrs- hope your rash is responding to the medicine. Ugh, just one more thing wen you are already so uncomfortable. I''m sorry.
8.gif

Robbie- I saved that bra in my favorites file. Starting at a 34D, I figure I night be in need soon! Thanks!

Lindsey- I absolutely LOVE your nursery so far! That paint is fabulous and the stroller cover is to die for! May I ask where you purchased her rocking chair? I love that it is an upholstered chair, but is not HUGE as so many seem to be. Natalie looks like such a sweetheart in her 4D pic.

As for me- 9 weeks today and I am a bit nervous. I don''t really *feel* pregnant anymore. Should I be scared? No spotting/bleeding/discharge of any sort whatsoever, but my full/bloated feeling has gone away, still no morning sickness at all, and I feel like maybe my nips aren''t as sore. I noticed all of this yesterday. I''m just freaking out, right? Would I know if something is wrong? My first real doc''s appt (outside of orientation) isn''t until the 10th and that seems SO far away! Please tell me a lot of you went through this too, and everything is fine....

No need to be scared. I went through the same thing. The week I tested I had an awful headache and was really sleepy all the time (reason why I tested). After that, nothing. I had some RLP here and there but no m/s, no sore boobs, nothing. I even sat and met with the doctor right before the first u/s and told her I was afraid that I had lost the baby because I felt nothing. She told me she doubted that was the reason and sure enough we saw our little disco ball.

You are just one of the lucky symptom free mommies

Just a quick update from me- we're moving this week (finally!) and super busy.

Fiery- Emily is a beautiful name, but I'm biased.
9.gif
It's the #1 name for girls and has been for many years, but if you love it and don't care about its popularity, I think it's a great choice!

Lindsey- Gorgeous nursery/stroller! I love soft blue for a girl.

We had our follow-up ultrasound today to get better shots of the heart, and the tech said he's looking great! He weighed in at 1 lb, 1 oz today. We got some super cute profile shots, but our scanner's packed up so I'll have to upload them after we're all moved in. Hope everyone else is doing wonderfully and not suffering from heartburn like I am. I feel like I have heartburn enough for all of us.
