Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

that''s just based on the ''average'' info babycenter sends out steph...! i won''t go in again til 36 weeks for my US so we''ll get some idea then but my dr told me they really can''t tell from the ultrasound in general, it''s just an estimate and it''s usually too high or low. she said a lot of times they won''t even do it unless you really want it. for me i don''t really care what he is measuring at as long as it''s not crazy big or small hehe. average or normal is fine. if your dr says you are fine then i wouldn''t worry! it is just crazy to think that i could be carrying around a canteloupe.
3.gif

Kimberly- I will definitely try that tonight! Thanks! I am a stomach sleeper as well. Do you think that could have anything to do with where the egg implants?

Tao- Thanks for the assurance as well.

Mara- A canteloupe! Wow!

Thanks! DrK, yeah exactly, I can''t figure out what they meant and I am certain that there is no need to fret, but that prob it is an imaging issue if not horseshoe? Anyway, thank you all for good vibes, I now have an appt with the high risk team for wed am. Hopefully will get some info at that point. Also, DrK, at what point would they be able to tell about cleft palate? And I''m afraid to bring up that polydactylism runs in my fam, not an issue of course, but interesting to know, right?

Mer, every time I think I feel something, it is prob just bowels. Pssst: I bet that many women who report early ''flutters'' are actually feeling gas+wishful thinking? I''m a week behind you and while I''ve never felt some of the stuff that is going on in there before, I''ve also never been so constipated. So how to tell which is which? Oh, well, I figure if my bbs keep hurting it all must be going according to plan.
Swimmer, I had a lot of follow-up for cleft palate: my sister''s daughter has one and I was taking Lamotrigine which ''could'' possibly be linked to a teeny tiny increased risk.

The palate is fully formed by 14 weeks, and I had an in-depth U/S with the consultant rather than the normal U/S person at 20 weeks to look specifically for any problems. I don''t know if that is the earliest that they can tell, but they just do it at the same time as the anomaly scan here.

My niece had hers operated on at 9 months and is totally fine - helps that my sister is a speech therapist!
9.gif

Mer, I don''t think they''re related, but it would be interesting if they are! There are 4 places an egg can implant (front, back, side, side) and we''re just part of that group whose egg implanted at the front of the uterus. Laying on my stomach is another thing that flipped my husband out -- "You''re squishing the baby!!! Stop it!!" Poor man, if only he knew how resiliant they are. I told him it''s going to be like a comedy to watch him with her when she arrives, he''s going to be terrified that he''ll break her, and I''ll probably be sending him into tizzys then too. Hope it helps and you get to feel a bit of movement. At 28 weeks there are still some days where the kiddo is pretty calm.

JCrow- I got a prenatal massage last week and it was heaven! I see lots more of those in my future

Oh Swimmer, I''m sorry to hear about your Doc''s message. Any new news to report?

Lindsey- glad to see you check in! I hope that you get some answers and are able to move forward with treatment soon

Meresal- Your LO will be kicking up a storm in no time. It sounds like the time range of feeling movement is really broad.

Steph- You are a baking wiz! Did you get your well-deserved nap?

Kimberly- It totally sounds like you''re talking about my DH- he is totally determined to move before Bebe arrives. True, we have a ways to go, but time will fly! The last couple of days have been about getting pre-approved and sizing up realtors.

Mara- Ditto on the weight gain and anxiety. I''m on track so far, but admit that I''m VERY nervous about what''s to come.

Nothing new to report with me- I''m 13w5d, so I believe i''m in my 2nd trimester. YAHOO! I''m still waiting to feel "blissful". My wierd late-afternoon/evening meh feeling is still here. In fact, it''s gotten worse the last 2 weeks or so. My indigestion SUCKS! The belching is nonstop and the last thing I want to have in the eves is a "normal" dinner. It''s been milk/cereal and soup lately...

Charger, you''ve got plenty of time! It may not feel like it though.

So I have my GD test tomorrow and I''ve lost all my paperwork. I put it somewhere safe and special, anyone know where that might be?

That means the demon ate them both. Shitake.

I sent you an email the other day, but I''m not sure you even use/have that address anymore.

Mara, I sympathize with how you feel about the weight gain and changing body shape. I think it''s hard on most women because we''re inundated with messages about how we''re supposed to look. Plus, during pregnancy pretty much everything is out of our control. Like you can''t choose to gain weight only in your boobs and belly and none in your thighs. =)

I can tell you that while your body may never be exactly the same, you absolutely can get back in shape. Having kids gave me hips, which I''m thankful for because before, I was not curvy at all. I''ve gotten back down to a size 2 relatively easily each time, too. I turned 39 a month after my 3 year old was born and that time, I did hang on to an extra 10 lbs., but I did low-carb for a little bit and got back to my normal weight.

I do need to get back into an exercise routine because I admit that I''m utterly lazy about it.

Oh, about baby''s weight -- I read a study a while back that said that mom''s are the best at guessing the weight so you''d probably be a lot closer than any late ultrasound!

As for me...I did go to my mw appointment today -- SO drove so I didn''t have to worry about driving. It''s the first appointment he''s come to this time, lol. I''m happy because we''re very close to being all set for our homebirth. SO will have to go after New Year''s to pick up the birth tub and we need to get a hose and adapter, but otherwise, I think I have all of the supplies. The mw is also fine with SO catching the baby, although he''s not convinced that he can/should do it. I told him that if he gives up this chance, he probably will end up regretting it -- and I don''t know of any men who have caught their own babies that regret it.

The mw had told me that January 7 was my date for when I''m cleared for homebirth, but I pointed out today that that date is based on my due date based on LMP and since I know the date of conception, the date should be based on that. It makes a difference of 5 days, so now I''m cleared come January 2. Yay! Plus, because we can use my due date based on LMP, I can have a homebirth up until February 11, so I have a 5 1/2 week window. This all makes me very happy!

The rest of the day was BUSY with some running around after the appointment (and I had the Larb Gai that I have been dying for!), then having to go FedEx my parents'' Christmas present, finish the Christmas cards and I also wrapped 4 presents. I realized that with this belly, wrapping is a lot harder than it used to be.

I''m so relieved that we''re almost done with our shopping. Tomorrow I need to go pick up gift cards for the kids and then that''s it. Phew!

Although I love Christmas, I will be glad when it''s over and I can concentrate on having a baby.

For those of you who were bloated early on in your pregnancy or you clothes didn’t fit early on for some reason, what did you do? My pants are really tight. Today, I had to wear spanx to get them zipped. These are pants that fit comfortably a week ago and I’ve only gained a pound in the last 4 weeks. I was so uncomfortable in the car that I unbuttoned and unzipped. I stopped to get coffee and forgot to zip and button and they stayed up!

I’m just over 7 weeks so I’m hoping this passes before the real belly growing begins. Did y’all just buy a bigger size in pants?

BTW, the spanx ain''t doing much for my look...instead of having a belly that''s sticking out, I just look wide!

Careful with the Spanx - I had a friend that did this and she ended up with WAY more stretch marks during her first three months of trying to "hide" her belly than during the last three months when she actually gained the most weight. Let that bloat be free!

And I had TONS of bloat at first, so I just used the rubberband trick - looped a rubber band through my buttonhole and hooked the other end of it around the button. It gave me a good two or three inches of bloat space and I could still wear them. I also had a lot of long tank tops that held everything down in place so I didn''t LOOK like my pants were unbuttoned lol.

I hope all of you ladies are having a good morning, mine is crap already. I have very little work to do except filing, and I am absolutely exhausted. I think I have finally reached the point in my pregnancy where I can''t sleep - I tossed and turned all night and barely got a wink. I''m so tired and it makes me grumpy
15.gif

puppmom,

My pants started feeling uncomforable around the 8.5 week mark. i blame bloat
2.gif
i was gifted a belly band and that worked pretty well. I also bought a pair of suit pants one size up and they fit great. I figured that it was worth the $$ since I had an oral argument and needed to look presentable and thought that post-baby, I may not be right back to where I started at. Finally, I tried to wear dresses to work as much as possible. If you don''t have to wear suits or business clothes to work, it''s a lot easier to remain comfortable!

I normally wear a 26/27, and I just went a bought a pair of 29's (low rise) that have like 2% spandex in them. I can still fit them at almost 22 weeks, but they have now become uncomfortable to sit down in.

I didn't gain weight either, but my center section went from being very slim and curvy to just kind of a balloon effect. As in, I filled out, which made my clothes fit completely different.

If you go get the belly band you can wear your pants for many more weeks, and never zip them!

Thanks guys! I''m SO getting that band! I had to get new shirts right away (button downs are no more for me!)...I was busting out of them at 5 weeks. My girls are LARGE. I thought I would get a while out of my pants but clearly not. I''m still hopeful that this will go down but, in the meantime, I''m on that band and dresses!

I think a lot of my bloating and constipation is due to the prenatals. My doctor said I can switch to Flinstones along with Folic Acid and DHA. Anyone else do this? I can''t find DHA in our local drugstores or Target. Maybe I can get a prescription?

Ah, the bloat, good luck puppmom! I wasn''t brave enough to use the rubber band technique. Would you walk around a high school or college campus with your pants unzipped?

MP! I wonder about your friend''s stretch marks, aren''t they just hereditary? Not that I squish my pudge in, ha! But I don''t get how keeping it in would have an effect on the skin? Though it could obv potentially harm the little guy if taken to extreme.

Go to your local Walgreens or CVS. I take Stuart Prenantals and Expecta DHA Supplement. The Stuart prenatals have everything you will need, except for the DHA.

You don''t need a prescription.

Puppmom, I bought some mat. pants early on as I hated the belly band, it was always rolling around and I was messing with it constantly, I used to maybe 2 or three times and was done. If you sew at all I''d buy some stretchy material, make your own and see how you like it; this way it''s the right width for you and you won''t have spent $20 on something you may end up hating.

I take the same prenatal vitamins as Meresal at my ob''s recommendation. She said that they contain exactly the same ingredients as the prescription ones for a fraction of the price (as long as you take both). FYI, Target also makes generic versions of both of those for even less than the Stuart and Expecta brands charge.

Regarding the Belly Band, I love it. I have one that I wear almost every day. I only gained 3 pounds in my first trimester, but I was so bloated around the middle that my regular pants were too tight by the time I was 8 weeks along. I used it with my regular pants, then to hold up my maternity pants which are still a little loose. They are great.

Thanks for all of the input. Target has a cheap brand of that belly band so it''s worth a shot. I think a lot of my concern is that DH and I really aren''t ready to tell anyone yet and I''m scared everyone will be able to tell before we''re ready to share. No one would dare ask, right?
2.gif

For the prenatals, I think my issue is the iron so that''s why my OB suggested Flinstones with the kid''s dose of iron. I''m going to look for that Expecta DHA. I was looking for DHA in alpha order just like the rest of the supplements are. I have a CVS within walking distance and a Walgreens just a few miles away so I''ll check there today. Worst case scenario, CVS online has Folic Acid with DHA supplement and I can order that.

Swimmer, any news from the doctor yet? Hope everything is ok!

Lindsey, so great to hear from you, although I am sorry you are struggling with anxiety. Please let us know how you are doing, and good luck with the RH testing.

Meresal, I am 20 weeks tomorrow and still haven''t felt anything either. Yesterday I wondered if there was something, but I bet I was just looking for any sign and it was gas or digestion
3.gif
Oh well, it will happen soon enough.

Puppmom, yeah the bloat is annoying. I actually made it through by buying a pair of pants from a Canadian store that has "comfort fit" pants, so they aren''t mat ones, but they pull up (rather than a regular zipper and button) and are stretchy. So I pretty much wore those until I started with actual maternity pants this week. I wonder if there is something like that you could find? I
30.gif
them, and will probably wear them for the first while after the baby is born as well.

I am heading home today for a week to see my family. Very excited, but this will be a sad Christmas for sure as well, since it''s the first one since my Mom passsed away (in May).
7.gif
And for me, I have all the additional pregnancy hormones, so let''s hope I can keep it together most of the time.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT purchase the bella band stuff at Target. Old pantyhose has more support. Seriously, I had to strive to return both leggings and band from there. It just wasn't the same as the non Target ones! The leggings I did get at Macys (Motherhood/pea in pod/whoever they are calling themselves today) were .5 the cost and 5,0000xs better. I love my bellaband that was given to me. I might never give it up since it hides low rise pant issues.

Mara, the body issue is so true and powerful. My belly popped out yesterday, so now I'm looking rather preggo. This morning at yoga I saw this tubby woman in the mirror and it was totally me! I almost grunted it was so difficult to process. Yes, working out and eating right to have your body the way you want it...well, its a way of controlling something in a world that frequently has nothing controllable in sight. It is so awesome to have this little boy in here, but wow, it is hard to comprehend all the physical changes. Yep, and we won't bounce back as easily as early 20s starlets, huh? Hugs and wow, you are almost done!

Thanks Pretty Blues and good luck with the hormones. So sorry to hear about your mom. Hard changes indeed. Thanks, we go in tomorrow for another u/s with the high risk team and then a sit down with the perinatologist. I do sort of like getting to have an u/s at least every week or so, but am wondering if my practice is just super pro-active or something? I was supposed to be high risk because of previous ovarian cancer and uterine scarring from surgery, but that is not even discussed now when I go in.

Thanks Pandora and Mara for the info on cleft palate. I just asked b/c a radiologist friend asked me to get him a shot that was not profile as he wanted to look at his face more clearly. I hadn't asked or anything...he is a dorky boy who has no filter...so this could just be an intellectual challenge for him or he might have seen something that us mere mortals can't pick up on. I'm almost ready to not talk about this pregnancy thang to anyone.

I didn''t have to unzip mine, just unbutton lol. That seam directly under the button is what was digging in so bad. If I had to unzip them, then NO WAY! Gah, they would fall off.

And my friend (a previous co-worker) was not prone to stretch marks and she never got any otherwise. When she finally realized that Spanx were a bad idea, she never got any more (if I am not mistaken, her mom never got any, either). Now me on the other hand? Stretch marks GALORE lol. It''s so lovely
20.gif

re: bloating and pants... i didn't fit mine at 8-9 weeks either. it was pretty sad given that i had only gained like 1-2lbs til then. for me it was my bloat and my hips. i did the rubberband trick like MP, surprisingly effective. i could not wear my jeans though after that really...well i got 1-2 wears out of them...but they weren't comfy.

really i wore a lot of dresses. and i am not a dress person but i bought a lot of sundresses and cardigans and wore those to work...thankfully this was like june to october so it was doable. i thought i would be super happy when winter came around because i could wear leggings and sweaters and be comfy but i just feel BIGGER in those clothes. go figure.

also...i didn't want to buy a lot of mat clothes but if you buy them a little earlier with stretch elastic you can wear them through most of the pregnancy...so i have gotten a lot of use out of mine. and then i have no shame, i have totally cut the elastic bands on the pants to wear them longer and i just wear longer tops. as long as people don't know what i'm doing, who cares haha. and i didn't want to buy pants for JUST the last 2 months.

also... is anyone else CRAZY hot during pregnancy? i used to be SUPER cold all the time, the person with 2 layers and a scarf on at work...but now i am wandering around in a TANK TOP hahhaa. and i still feel hot. and sweaty. so gross actually. i hear it continues through bf'ing...lovely! but yeah my temperature is all outta wack.

re: prenatals, i bought some 2 for 1 deal at safeway when i thought i was preggo and have been using those. i was surprised to see that they don't have that much calcium and some of the other vitamins as my REGULAR vitamin supplement! but they have gotten me this far and i am not even through 3/4 of the bottle. i am also spotty about taking them...but a lot of people say they were the same way and/or never even took them and their kids were fine so. i can tell when my body needs extra nutrients so then i try to be good about taking them for a few weeks. i am surprised also i havent gotten sick (knock on wood) which i kind of attribute to the prenatals. whenever i felt like i was getting sick i'd just take the vitamins and i'd feel fine next day! that never used to work with my regular vitamins.

mp...sorry you aren't sleeping very well...ugh!! that definitely messes with you.
swimmer...nope i won't bounce back as quickly as a young chick but that's ok as long as most of it bounces somewhere hehee.
rps...thanks for the insight on body and weight, you look GREAT for having multiple kids, i would love to look that good after my one. i already have hips, birthing ones, so i don't need more hehe. i hope that mine go back mostly to where they were before or else i have lots of expensive jeans i won't be able to wear..!
39.gif

i definitely cannot stand as long as i used to, or even do as much as i used to. yesterday i sat for a few hours to work, then showered and went to 2 stores. by the time i got home i was so tired. i loaded the DW and then put a load of laundry in and had to lay down. JEEZ! it's all downhill from here i guess. does anyone have good stretches for their lower back?? i can't really bend over like i used to!

random funny note but does anyone else who gets up a lot at night find they are starving and eat cereal before going back to bed? that is me right now, it only happens like 3x a week, usually if i couldn't fit very much for dinner and like 3am when i wake up to pee i have to eat or else i can't get back to sleep. too funny.

Stuffy nose
OMG when you ladies were talking about stuffy nose last week, I was like I don''t have that. I must''ve jinxed myself b/c I am so stuffed up right now.
7.gif

Bloating
I was really bloated early on with this pregnancy. I was in maternity jeans at 10 weeks. Last time I didn''t buy maternity jeans until like 16 weeks or so. I am another one who didn''t like bella band. It kept rolling up onto my stomach and not cover the unbuttoned pants, probably b/c my hips are wider than my waist.

Weight gain and loss postpartum
I was up 29lbs at my 34w appt last Friday (gained 4lbs in 2 weeks), but surprisingly my OB didn''t give me a lecture. He was very strict on my weight gain last pregnancy (I gained 30lbs total). I wonder if he is more lax this time b/c I started out 3 lbs lighter this pregnancy than the last, and he figured that I wouldn''t have a problem losing the weight afterward. It doesn''t make gaining weight easier, even though this is my second time.

After giving birth, I lost 20lbs right away (from the baby, placenta, etc). At 8 weeks, I was back to pre-pregnancy weight and lost a few more pounds a couple weeks after. That''s just from breastfeeding. I never got back to exercising after Meena was born. My body was changed in that I had some excess skin at the belly, but my hips were back to normal (pre-pg jeans fit well). My boobs didn''t have a chance to get back to "normal" since I was still breastfeeding when I got pregnant. I hope they go back to my original size when I am done with this baby. I know I was lucky last time, so I am hoping this time won''t be too much harder. Though I am preparing to work hard to get the weights off, just in case.

Baby position
I asked my OB if the baby is breech b/c I feel this hard round part on the right side of my belly and was wondering if that’s the head. He said that the baby is head down and the hard part is the butt, but he did say that’s a pretty hard butt. To that I responded, he has the bum of steel.
9.gif
So he is going to do an u/s next week to check the weight and position of the baby, along with my first internal and Strep B swab test.

Crazy hot during pregnancy
You can count me in for this one. I can walk around in tank top in the house now, when usually I would be in sweatshirt.

On being hot
Wow Mara, I think you read my mind... I logged on just to ask that very same question!! I''m sitting at home and I''m sweating like crazy... I''m hot all the time! I''m trying to make phone calls because we''re having problems with our car''s brakes (Merry Christmas to us...) and my hands are all sweaty and yuck. Well, good to know I''m not the only one.

Weight gain
Last Wednesday, at 38 weeks, I was at 40lbs. It''s all in the belly so I''m not too worried, plus my doctor hasn''t said anything about it. It''s not like I could do much about it anyway, I eat well and exercise lightly, so even if my doctor had a problem with it...

Bloating and pants
I started not fitting in my pants at about 9 weeks, I think. I''d wear them unbuttoned with a belt. I finally bought and started wearing maternity pants at 14 weeks. I love them... They''re starting to get a bit tight now, though... I guess that''s what happens when you have a 40lbs belly.

Baby kicks and position
It took me a while to start feeling the baby too, I think it was 21-22 weeks. Now s/he''s quite the athlete! His/her butt was sticking out on the top of my belly this weekend, it was hilarious!

I have my 39 weeks appointment tomorrow, I''ll let you know if there''s any more progress. DH is getting even more impatient than I am; hopefully baby will arrive within the next week!

DH found my paperwork this morning, he''s so helpful! We''re off to my appt.

Temperature: I''m normally cold, but I sleep hot (kick off all the covers). I''m warner than normal now that I''m pregnant and still sleep hot.

Weight Gain: I''ll find out today. I think I''m up about 23 lbs. at 28 weeks.

hi ladies....hope all is well with everyone!!

just wanted to do a quick update....

baby noah was born this morning at 7:54. i started having very mild contractions at 2am and since this is my second, we headed straight to the hospital after my mom came over to watch our son at home. we got to the hospital and i was 6cm, got my epi and all was great. i was ready to push at 715, and pushed through about 5 contractions and baby was born.

the labor was longer than i thought it would be, but the doc said that the epi probably slowed down the contractions.

anyways, hopefully we''ll be sent home tomorrow.

anchor you''re next!!!

congratulations..you snuck this in, I almost missed it!!! Hope you''re doing well mama puffy!!

haha...mommy brain...

he was 7 lbs 13 oz and 21 inches long.

thanks janine!!

Congrats Puffy
