Help setting an O colored 1.59ct AVC diamond

@Rfisher saw exactly what I did. (What a great example she was able to find, too! ) Bear with me, no stylus at hand, so this isn't pretty, but you could have them move the meet point down just a smidge. Sidestones might have to be adjusted too.

Thank you @Rfisher and @CHRISTY-DANIELLE :D
I saw that too but I wasn’t sure how to adjust it.

@Rfisher thanks for the pic. It’s such a great example! I’ll be sending it to DK for reference.

@CHRISTY-DANIELLE all that without a stylus? Impressive!
Thank you for adjusting the shoulders. I don’t like them as is but I’m unsure what to do with them. I like the way you tapered it a lot. Also, I forgot to have DK add weight to the bottom of the shank with that rounded bottom. I’ll add that this time (looks pretty good in your mock up btw).

Here’s a question: Do you think the halo is tilted down a little too much? I was considering bumping it back up a smidge. It’s so hard to tell in CAD form.

Ok, so this is a lot of pics, but I definetly would see the current halo tilt in plastic before you adjust it up. ( I think it's perfect. ) Honestly my only regret on my octo is I wish the outer octo shape was tilted DOWN more! I adjusted the tilt down on my spinel after I saw the original in plastic. I'm so glad I did. I'll get pics to show you of that too. I wanted to see more of the sidestones from the side view, and with more tilt you do. I think my spinel is even more tilted than your halo, if you look at the angle.20200401_110810.jpg

I also found that making sure they bring the filigree of the basket right to the edge, it eliminates that lip.

Here's some beautiful examples of halo tilt, swoop, and shoulder attachment for you to look over:

Here's the plastic models. The one on the left in these pics is the 2nd (final) one, with halo tilted down more than 1st model (on right). The first one on hand I kept thinking looked like a postage stamp. Once some more tilt was added (left model), I could tell I would see more of the sidestones and it just looked better!

My halo doesn’t look that tilted when I see it next to your pics. Thank you. That’s very reassuring. BTW, DK told me that the outer edge of the halo will be about 1/2 as thick, as the rest should be carved away.

I’m loving all the blingy photos!!! Major eye candy...and it’s research.

I Love, Love, Love these comparison pics!
It’s so neat to see the plastic models vs how the actual ring turned out. I’m glad you tilted yours more...it’s looks stunning.

Question, why is the plastic sparkly? Did you paint it?

Yeah, lol, I started painting them back when the models were green.
(I use silver nail polish.) I'm a very visual person.
I thought that first halo example most resembled yours. I can't explain it but the halo tilted like that just wraps so naturally on the finger, instead of looking stuck on.

I’ve had green ones and one red one. I think Im going to have to try painting mine this time. It’s a pretty snazzy idea. :D

Here’s my newest CAD.

Better! What do you think? But it seems like their version looks more "navette" shape than your design. Like E/W stones are still too small?20200403_213834.png

I'd still have a bit more taper on shoulders, but that's my preference.
I think you'll be happy with going to 2.5mm at the back

I think that profile looks so much better with the swoop!

My model paint (nail polish) is Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy in "Lucky Us"

Thank you for chiming in. You hit the nail on the head. Something is off about the new halo shape for me too. I think the top section looks too large compared to the sides. Plus, the center stone on the top is kinda flattened down on the top.
I asked David for a new image because this one is too blurry for me to see the details well.

Do you like where the shoulders taper to a point? They don’t seem overly visible from the top, which is what I was worried about. However, they do still seem to come up to the side of the halo rather than tucking just underneath.

Thank you for the nail polish recommendation. Now I just have to find a rose gold color to see if I’ll like that too. :D

Yeah it's just a bit off.
I imagine with them all working from home they are forwarding email images from their CAD designers, so you're getting a copy of a copy too. (=blurry)
Anyway, I've got time to burn, so thanks for the distraction actually! I think the shoulders look great, but you could get a little more taper. Here are some random ideas:20200404_102741.jpg

I think you are right, the top stone needs to be rounded and maybe smaller. There's compared to a tweaking I did:

I actually love to wear rose gold polish! I think Sally Hansen miracle gel in Terra Cotta looks like 18k rose gold, fwiw.

Who knew you’d be sitting there with the perfect rose gold color already. You’re freaking awesome.

Thank you for the mock ups. I still really like the pointed one on the right. I like how you gave it more definition. Your mock up on the halo is great too. I think you nailed it with the center emerald. I’ll have to spend some time working on this today to see what I can do.

I have a nail polish obsession. There, I admitted to it.

Here's a side by side of theirs and then if you flare out the top a bit and taper in middle a smidge more (I keep thinking like a wasp waist?) My spinel does that, but its super strong (not gonna snap at that small stretch of thin shank!)

Like a wasp‘s waist is the perfect way to describe it and I LOVE it!
I‘m sending this pic to DK. There’s no way I could do better.

I love nail polish too but I barely paint my nails anymore. So lazy! Lol.

So I laid the design elements over the latest CAD to see some possible changes.
Do you think these are the right proportions for the halo?

I just outlined yours above, but also realized your example had a bit of a point to the side larger stone. . that draws your eye outward. What do you think?

Sorry, I just saw this. The mock up looks great but it’s not what I’m looking for. I definitely want to keep the soft edges. Thank you though. :D

Oooh, I think it looks great!! ;)
Do you like it?
The shank looks good, the halo , shoulders... how exciting!

How are the diamonds in the shoulder going to be mounted?
I think it’s going to be gorgeous no matter what.
I’m a dog that refuses to give up a bone tho - if it were mine, I still campaign for those 4 areas in the halo I mentioned earlier to be more accented like the original mockup you did.

I think it’s getting close. Which is a relief, honestly, because I don‘t usually have to do this many CADs.

Could you explain what you mean about the diamonds on the shoulders? I usually just let the people at DKJ do their thing. I’m not familiar with mounting styles.

I was thinking about those meet points too. They still aren’t right but I’m having a hard time describing exactly how to fix them.

Ok, I tried showing exactly what I’m looking for. What do you think?62AF6A7A-D52B-4851-A9F5-1022307DB9EA.jpeg

Edited to add a different vantage point.

@CHRISTY-DANIELLE
What did your shoulder diamonds on your OEC ring look like on your final CAD? Did it approximate like how they would be set? Or did they look like this one of Elle’s?

@elle_71125 I just have it it my head that it’s going to be burnished set, the way the cad looks now.
DD7FB6CB-02B8-4725-BC49-DC9D0287B385.jpeg
I’m probably all wet......and making this more difficult than it needs to be

And I probably would draw the two custom cut emeralds that sit next to each other at that meeting point, how I think they should look like unset, to try and elaborate what I see different in your inspo vs their CAD. Maybe it just cannot be done? I don’t know? But I’d sure try until I were actually told that.

Edited to add - I think your new mockup with notations explains it very well

I was wondering the same thing @Rfisher , I assumed it was planned as burnish set. Elle if you are expecting sidestones prong set in a channel, you might want to clarify.
Here' s one of my sidestones in final cad, the 2nd image is an early cad when I was actually planning to do burnish set (changed my mind).

@CHRISTY-DANIELLE
You wouldn’t happen to have any photo examples of this era/style ring with burnished set shoulders from when you were doing yours?

I could only quickly find the one I used above, and it’s not really the same.

Just for eye candy!
Thx!

I used to, but I've had to delete a lot of pics.. (phone getting old!). My last ring had a single burnished stone on the shoulders, so gives the idea of how they are set.
Screenshot_20200408-104106.png

@Rfisher @CHRISTY-DANIELLE Nope, I wasn’t planning to burnish set them (thank you for the pics because I had no idea what that was).

I sent this as my inspo pic for the shoulders so that’s what I was expecting.

I had to look back but it seems like most of my CADs look similar (without prongs).
Ill be sure to verify with DK though.
