Jewelry Store Engagement Diamond

I received some new intel. She is unsure if she will be able to wear it to work all the time as it may depend on what her role is for that day.

From our discussion, she seems like the halo style and I like this style. I think it fits her well. (based upon the photos I provided, tell me if I am wrong. After looking for so long I lose perspective)

Her comment was "dainty" and I'm not sure what to make of that word / ring style. I believe if this was set low and still allowed for a wedding band, then it would be considered "dainty"?

in this context dainty *probably* refers to a more delicate looking / feeling ring which is what I would call the ring you have there!

I think dainty fits for this ring! It’s very pretty

I really like the I color stone that you're looking at but if you're putting it in a halo setting I would get the H. I think there could be an occasional color contrast between the center stone and halo stones in certain lighting if you go with the I. I'm not sure how color sensitive your gf is but I'd rather be on the safe side.

Are you recommending H color so that it matches the halo diamonds? If so, I color diamonds can be added to the halo instead of H so it matches.

Generally smaller stones reflect light differently than larger stones and tend to look whiter, even if they are similar in color. At least that has been my experience and my personal preference would be to halo a whiter stone vs a slightly warmer stone. But your experience or tolerance for color could be different.

Rose gold is awesome. I think that warmer colors look great in rose gold. But rose gold doesn’t make a diamond whiter — RG just avoids having a noticeably yellow stone be highlighted by a white metal (which I really hate, but some people like… no judgment!). Or avoids having a yellow metal turn the warm diamond “golden” (which I happen to like, but some people really hate… no judgment!).

Rose gold will not make a lower color stone look whiter next to melee, and melee, even of matching color, are going to look bright. You can find many unfortunate pairings on the “recently purchased” section of certain vendors’ online retail sites.

I normally view my diamond rings from some angle other than directly parallel to my face, so that means almost all day long I am looking at a partial side view of my diamonds. For that reason I personally would really rather have an H than an I.

It's definitely delicate, and I'm a plus 1 for the H color.

Many hospitals don't allow rings, other do. I guess the question is does she want a design that better provides that as a option. You could have the designer bezel the main stone and then this design is totally hospital safe keeping her options more open.

I’d go for the H too. Especially if she wants dainty, I’d intentionally choose a smaller stone. Many of her inspo images look to be closer to 1 carat, some less.

I love the Ken & Dana designs. To me they DEFINE the dainty look, so I don’t think you can go wrong choosing one of their settings, with or without halo!
I have an i color diamond in yellow gold and it does look just a tad warmer than I prefer. I think H color is a good compromise and will provide a nice contrast for rose gold without looking too warm or too stark white.
Can’t wait to see your final choice!

Hey everyone,

I've decided on the halo ring. I think it will align more with her style / what she is looking for.

Based upon individuals responses, I will be looking at H color diamonds.

The original H diamond is still available but I found another slightly larger H.

The 1.371 H is cheaper, slightly larger but it is an SI. I doubt it will have any visible inclusions but I do not physically have the diamond so I cannot confirm.

What are you thoughts for the diamond?

For an engagement ring I would stick to a VS2 or higher. That particular stone has many inclusions that mar the appearance for me. Even if they are not visible.

If she were picking out the diamond with you or by herself and said let’s get an SI stone and go big or go home, then it would make sense. For a proposal I would rather go down .10 or .20mm and up in clarity to VS2. I know 10 people are going to disagree with me, but that’s my advice.

I agree. We don’t know if she has eagle eyes and I think once some people spot inclusions they always see them so I’d go with VS2.

That SI is a little more included than others we have seen. Go with the VS imho.

Definitely the VS...it appears much more clean and crisp than the SI.

What a noticeable difference!

Found this F VS1, albeit a 0.3mm decrease in spread:

Comparison with the H VS2 (top... obviously):

That's a great stone but I wouldn't give up .3mm for the color to go in rose gold. I think an H is a good color choice for rose so why loose the size.

I'd totally do colorless in RG or YG, even though it's not really necessary! :evil2:

yes, but not if you also want to maximize size and have a budget. But I get it, you prefer colorless. I actually don't so would prefer G over E or F any day. Actually my G EC looks too white for me. That's why there are enough stones for all of us!=)2

I think it's all about skin tone. Some people look better in cool tones and some look better with warmth. Me, I'm all pink undertones, so no yellow for me.

I'm with ya...variety is the spice of life!

I submitted a request to secure the 1.34 G instead of the 1.45 I.

I think I've looked at rings for so long they are all beginning to look the same to me, or I will find another which I think may look nice.

I found another from their website which I am interested in.

Should I stick with my intended ring: https://shop.kenanddanadesign.com/products/unique-engagement-rings-rose-gold-halo-diamond-margrette

or

select this ring. I do feel like with the side design, it has a higher chance to look outdated.

I like them both, so I won't weigh in with a preference.

Please, your intentions are so good, I think you are over thinking this. Either ring seems to fit with the aesthetic you think she will want. If you are so unsure, have you thought about presenting her the diamond in a basic inexpensive setting telling her you want her to pick out the permanent setting. I don't know her, or you so maybe she wants you to do it all, but I hate to see you struggling so much making this choice where she might be able to say "that's the one", just like she has said about you. Just a thought. Otherwise, pick the lowest profile one if the gloves on and off is an issue. And best of luck. You truly have showed how much you care about making the right choice. It's admirable.

You are right, she is the kind of person who would love whatever ring I chose. She wants nothing to do with the process and said it's all up to me so I just want to make sure whatever decision I make is correct. I know what I am going to do. Thank you.

I wasn't sure how many more posts I would make before someone would call me out on this haha. I watched as I captured in writing via this thread my paralysis from analysis as @blingmeupscotty pointed out.

I really do appreciate all the help.

Don’t worry many of us analyze things to death, myself included

I like both, but I’d stick with the one you picked. You were drawn to it for a reason, and I think it’ll be slightly easier to find a nicely matching wedding band

No worries! We would not be here replying to you if we were not having fun.

The Fiona that you found is perfect. Out of all the ones you have shown us, the Fiona is the closest to your sweetheart’s examples.

The F, G, and H are all good. IMHO stay away from the I. At the point where you are at now in your decision making, all your choices are good ones.
