I did something to my rotator cuff... in my sleep. No joke.

At first I though it was a heart attack since my arm hurt so much and the pain traveled to my neck, but after four days it would be the slowest heart attack in history so after popping aspirin like pez for 96 hours I used my medical degree from GUMS (Google University Medical School ) to narrow it down to tendonitis, bursitis, or a rotator cuff injury and then selected the last one.

Whatever it is... YOWCH.

I feel your pain! I messed up my (only) right jaw joint in my sleep somehow. Literally could not open my mouth more than an inch one morning. It made brushing my teeth almost impossible, let alone eating. It has taken muscle relaxants, ibuprofen, and about three months of chiropractic care to be fairly pain free.

Yesterday morning when I was leaving to bring the kids to school, I noticed our neighbors car had a huge scrape down the side. I thought it was vandalism or somebody pulled in to turn around and hit the car. Nope, someone stole her mother’s car and hit her car while backing out. Our driveways are right next to each other and my older son even said he was woken up by some noises outside but didn’t look out the window because he was too scared.

That is way way too close for comfort and unfortunately we do not have a garage :confused2:

I did the same thing one time. I ended up getting a cortisone shot in my shoulder which helped tremendously! The doctors said I also had some arthritis and burrs on the bone which probably caught the cuff. All while sleeping! It gets sore every now and again from overuse but nothing like that first round. I couldn't get a jacket on cause I couldn't reach my arm back that far. Hope you are having some relief now!!

We just got a estimate to change our tub/shower(with shower curtain) into a walk-in shower with glass doors and acrylic walls.
OMG...$8476.
That's 2x what I was expecting!

The house was built in 1963, so the bath is really old and worn out.
I'm just so sorry we didn't do this pre-covid. It woulda been much cheaper, I'm sure.
Plus, DH wants 5 new windows. Why do men always want new windows?

Who knows how many millions new windows will cost us.

They aren't cheap. I had all but six of my windows replaced about 20 or so years ago and I think it cost me about $400 or so each back then. Recently I had the last 6 replaced and it was more like $1200 for each window. These are vinyl replacement windows by Harvey, not even the more expensive ones. I feel your pain.

Yes, we had the majority of our windows replaced some years ago, and these are the remaining 5. Three are smaller bathroom windows, and two are slightly bigger.

We explored the possibly of replacing the windows ourselves, but
we cannot get replacement windows at our local home improvement stores. They just carry "new build" windows that won't work.
After reading a bunch of reviews online, I'm thinking that no company is going to be much cheaper than another, so we might just go with one that has consistently great Google reviews.

I don't feel comfortable spending all this money. But I guess if we didn't the house will fall down around our ears before long!

Yes, it's the bain of home ownership. Constant upkeep. My house was built in 1953 so I've done a lot to it over the years. Replaced the kitchen in about 1990 and now should do it again, but it's such a pain.

I agree on going with the windows that get the best reviews. Harvey's, like I got, are only on the East coast and pretty common here so I don't know much about the others, except for the fact that Anderson is always advertising.

We spent 10's of thousands of dollars last year for 5 windows........

I took out a pet insurance for my cat when I had her when she was about 2.5yo in 2007, and she has not had any issue or needed to claim for anything all her life.

Now at the grand old age of 19yo, she has dental issues and needed multiple tooth extractions.

I had erroneously thought her insurance would cover this, however, it turned out more and more exclusions were added to her policy through the years as she aged, while the insurance premium went up.

The initial policy did not exclude dental, and only had 9 exclusions. The 2020 version had 16 exclusions and 15 was tooth and gum diseases.

I decided there is no point in continuing with paying money down the drain, as the excess just about cover a vets' consultation nowadays and she is a healthy cat apart from her teeth! If something major would happen to her that would make her life a misery, then she would be PTS as I am not going to prolong her pain and suffering. So I requested for her insurance to be cancelled.

Good job too, as the latest policy document just received yesterday had over 20 exclusions!!!

ugh just like human health insurance. The insurance company will do all it can to avoid paying any money for what should be rightfully included. I hope your sweet kitty gets the treatment she needs and has a 100% recovery @dk168

Her dental treatment was on the lower side of the estimate of between 400 to 2k+ GBP, thank goodness, so one less CS to be set in a ring!

She is worth it though, and I would not have put her through the dental procedure if her quality of life would not improve afterwards. She is eating very well and back to her normal self.

Thanks for your kind thoughts.

I don't have private health insurance myself, and am relying on our National Health Service. So far so good with treatments I have received to date, so no complain from me!

DK :))

Drivers here at the absolutely pits! Coming home yesterday, a woman pulled out, she wasn’t looking what she’s doing, I could see her fiddling with her hair and looking in the rear view mirror. She was so distracted she didn’t pull in to her lane, but came right at me. There were no cars ahead or behind me. Fortunately for me, there was a passing lane to my left which I swerved in to, and blasted her to get her attention.

After being hit by a big truck last year, the last thing I need is to be hit by a distracted idiot. I’m beginning to think I’m jinxed, when I got hit last year my car was only a few months old, and now my current car is only a few months old.

Great, so mortgage company notified us that there was a data breach, and our personal information was affected.....in May! This is October, and you are just now notifying us? Way to give the thieves a running start!

My DH belongs to one of the biogenetic DNA websites ( 23andMe) and they had a major security breach. They also were slow to inform members, as was your mortgage company. Let’s face it, the minute that the Pandora’s box known as THE INTERNET was opened, we let the whole world into our lives..the good guys and the bad guys!

So true. I turn-off as much tracking as I can. Don’t ever use Siri , won’t record
my voice anywhere, etc. Years ago did the ancestry DNA thing and have gone in to delete what I could but I’m sure it’s still stored somewhere. Locked down my credit so no new cards or loans could go through. It’s so frustrating. You do what you can but hard to be 100% safe.

@Lookinagain @canuk-gal
The window estimate is $4500. For 5 smallish windows.
Completely ridiculous, but not as much as I anticipated.
They ought to be gold plated for that kinda dough!

It hurts, but that quote is a few hundred less per window than what I paid. It could be locale, or brand, or cost of labor that makes the difference. But I will say, when I finally finished and put in the last 6 new windows, it felt good to be done. You just have to bite the bullet!

I don't know where to post this so I guess here is as good as anyplace.

I'm feeling very sad. We have three dogs who are all older gals. The one that seemed the most athletic, energetic, and mentally together all of a sudden became drastically ill one week ago tonight. She literally went from joyously running everyday almost two miles to at death's door. We were in and out of our regular vet all week. Her vitals kept crashing and they couldn't find a reason, best guess was a kidney infection because her white blood cell count was high and she was a girl prone to UTIs. But she didn't respond to antibiotics. She didn't want to eat all week and couldn't even keep water down with chronic vomiting. She was in the emergency vet hospital all weekend. Finally yesterday we got a diagnosis. Lymphoma of the liver and intestines. I didn't even realize lymphoma could be outside of the lymph nodes. Only thing to do was to euthanize her. She couldn't eat or drink and the disease was too advanced for chemo. She was in pain and couldn't exist without being on an IV.

We took her home yesterday evening so she could be put to sleep at home. She was originally a shelter dog (we adopted her 10+ years ago) so she was terrified of hospitals and anyplace that resembled a shelter. We didn't want her to die in the hospital and think she was at a shelter for her last moments on earth.

So she came home yesterday evening and we had a vet scheduled to come to our house this morning to put her down. But she died overnight. It was a terrible death, not at all what we wanted for her. Pain, and vomit, blood, diarrhea everywhere. We thought we were doing the right thing, but we ended up having her suffer badly overnight. No-one realized she'd go downhill that quickly, we all (even the vet) thought we had a couple days and bringing her home was the gentlest option.

I feel so terrible we didn't have her put down at the hospital now. We created a situation where she was in agony and very traumatized. I'm so sorry. We thought we were lessening her suffering by bringing her home to die.

Also, I've had dogs all my life, and have never had one go from super athletic happy bouncy gal to at death's door literally overnight, then dead within the week. I've even had dogs with cancers before (even lymphoma, though of the lymph nodes) and it's been year+ long decline, not months, certainly not days.

I'm shocked, wracked with guilt I chose the wrong ending for her, and didn't see this coming at all. And of course I miss her terribly. I feel like I've failed all around. I loved her so much and I've totally failed her.

It was such a long, hot, horrible summer this year, she and I both were looking forward to finally getting to go for some hikes this fall. It breaks my heart that's not going to happen.

The only positive in our decision to bring her home to die was that our long-time pet sitter who lovers her like her own was able to come over and say goodbye to her. She stroked her head and said loving things to her. I honestly believe Sophie (our dog) liked that even in her misery. And our pet sitter needed it too.

But still I believe I chose the wrong ending. It's so hard to know what to do when they can't talk to us and tell us what they want or how much they hurt.

I sooo wish I had taken her on a hike last week before this all hit. Just one fall walk would have been nice.

Awww, @RunningwithScissors. :cry2: I'm so sorry. I totally understand...our beloved Fox Terrier had a horrid last night, too, which was very unexpected. Similar to your beloved one. I wished we had known ahead of time, and would never have put her through that.

I believe that they know our love, and that our intentions were for the best. Sometimes life just works out differently than what we plan or hope for.

Sending you hugs, and furry-ones love.

RunningWithScissors, I’m so so sorry for your heartbreaking loss.
