Such a cutie!

I saw saw a young buck in our yard---sweet furry antlers----I wonder where the rest of his kin are...usually there are 4 or 5 of them.....noshing

Happy Belated Happy Birthday @missy! I’m so sorry I missed it! :(2 I’ll blame it on temporary insanity..I hope you had the best birthday..riding..being with your honey and ice cream! Much love to you! ❤️

Hi girls! I had time today so did some reading here..I’m never going to catch up…;-) It was so nice to know what’s happening in your lives. I can’t wait until things calm down so I can get back to being able to come here every day…
@missy When is your cataract surgery? Your gut feeling is probably right…
I’m happy Oliver had a good checkup with your sister. Hopefully it was just an upset tummy..
@Austina Your bracelet is so gorgeous! I hope I get nice neighbors like you have! They are lucky to have you for sure!
I obsessed about the fixtures..I’m happy you like them! The lanterns are a nod to my husband who was an officer in the Navy..
How wonderful you got to meet @marcy! I hope to meet you all one day!
@mrs-b Thank you for liking my kitchen. It’s five years old so IMO it’s better than new because the kinks are worked out. The kitchen has a freestanding Wolf oven..I have one here in Pa..It hurts my back to bend over to get a pan out of the oven..I also wanted a wall oven for when I have guests. I was surprised this house didn’t have one. I put in a Wolf microwave and oven combo. I will use that more than the freestanding one.
Hello and hugs to everyone else..We’re going back to Va on Wednesday..I will take pics of the progress..There have been some snafus but overall..the contractors have been wonderful..I’ve been spending hours and days purchasing things for the house instead of coming here…Things should be coming to a stall soon when they start the floor refinishing. Then we have to find a small moving company to move the furniture from Maryland. We can’t move the furniture in until at least a month after they're finished..so we will have time. They said no rugs for four to six weeks..so no use moving the furniture in until we can put the rugs down. I also have to order a king bed and a recliner for my hubby. I have to time everything..He gets to keep that in his office..lol
I have a dilemma..The primary bedroom has three little windows above the bed. The former owners didn’t care for privacy. The people next door can see right in because the shades are a sheer fabric. They are very pretty so I want to keep them..I will put drapes on the other windows in the room but I’m not a fan of drapes behind the bed. I think I’m going to get a tension rod with a curtain behind it to block us out...so I can keep the sheer shade. It wouldn’t be noticeable from the front..This is a photo with their furniture. It’s empty right now..of course…but I don’t have a recent photo now..I can take another one when we go on Wednesday if that’s helpful. I’m stumped and need opinions. Big hugs everyone!

Lovely to hear how things are going @MamaBee. Can you change the sheers behind the bed for blackouts? We’ve got the same fabric for all the blinds, some are sheers and the bedroom ones are blackouts, so they don’t really look different from the inside.

Can’t wait to see more photos when you have time, it sounds like it’s all coming together and is going to be absolutely beautiful.

@Austina Thank you! I think rather than replacing them..I think I’m just going to put a tension rod behind the three windows..I will make or buy a blackout curtain to hang behind the shade. I’ll have to make a perfect square to match the shape of the window.. I know I would never pull the shades up anyway. I’m going to keep all the shades that match in the room so I can get some light in during the day..I love white linen drapes so they should work when I need privacy at night. That’s what I’m thinking now anyway..:twisted2:

Sounds like a plan! We rarely put the shades up in the bedroom, it helps keep the heat out

Whatever you do for window coverings, @MamaBee - I LOVE your window configuration, and had hoped to do something similar in our room. I love the look of it and, having seen photos of your other houses, know for sure that you'l choose something gorgeous; your taste is excellent!

I've missed you here on PS - it's so lovely to hear from you! Sending you warm thoughts and hoping things go without a hitch for you! ox

I remember that heat @Austina! We lived there in the eighties. It was hot! I would go food shopping and then jump in the pool. You had to have one there! I miss having one. My husband hated having it..He would take care of the chemicals himself, etc. I had to shoo the boys into the house so they didn’t hear him mumble words to himself.

Thank you so much @mrs-b..I missed all of you..
I think the windows are pretty but I really don’t like feeling like I’m on a tv show for the people next door. The house style doesn’t really go with my furniture..but I’m not about to get rid of everything I’ve collected over the years. I hope it all comes together! I really am at an age where I’m okay if it doesn’t..as long as my husband and I like it. Some pieces I’ve had for thirty plus years. They’ve moved with me everywhere..so they feel like home..in style..matching or not..
My husband picked the colors down in the rec room area. The walls are gray…but the media room is navy blue! I painted his office Naval by Sherwin Williams here in Pa..He loved it so we repeated it in his office in the new house. He wanted the same color for the media room downstairs but I switched that color out for Benjamin Moore Hale Navy. I also had the cabinets painted in the rec room to tie it together. It’s a more grayed dark Navy as opposed to rich navy blue. I had upstairs painted soothing blue..I need soothing right now..lol

LOL thank you and please do not give it a second thought. Honestly since the pandemic birthdays have not meant much to me. I do not want to sound corny or anything but every day I feel so grateful for all I have. The amazing people in my life. My family and my friends and my sweet caring loving kind generous smart funny DH. Yeah I know. Barf haha. But yea so one day (birthday, anniversary etc) doesn't really mean much to me anymore. It is every single day I feel lucky and fortunate and just grateful.

Absolutely stunning. I LOVE this. Can people see in through those high windows above the bed? I mean is there a neighbor who is higher up so they can see through it? Because if not you don't need to do anything. But if so I love white curtains and have them in our bedroom. It's very zen and lets no light through for better sleep. And I open them every morning so it is nice and bright in the bedroom during the day. Anyway love your floors, colors and love the feel of the room. Just beautiful and peaceful just like a bedroom should feel

I am back...had to give Tommy his thyroid meds.

Almost forgot..Some good news. Greg's MRI with contrast showed just a cyst on the liver and nothing to be concerned about according to our gastro. Whew what a relief. And Sir Oliver ate this morning and last night so fingers crossed all is OK with him. Still waiting on blood results.

Happy FriYAY all! Today is rainy just like yesterday and we are running errands today. My family is coming over tomorrow and my sister and BIL at an ung-dly hour LOL because my niece is taking the SATs at a HS nearby starting at 730AM so they have nowhere to go til she is done so she asked if they could come before the afternoon date. OMG we have to get ready and do stuff but what could I say? So we shall have company from early AM to late and well that is exhausting for me even though it is family. But looking forward to seeing them

It is thundering here and I do not love thunder. It is a scary noise lol and also the concern it will affect our power.
Happy FRIYAY all. Be well and have a great day and a wonderful weekend. XOXO

Happy FriYay Lovelies

:appl:Great news on Greg’s results @missy, Colin had something similar years ago, and IIRC it rectified itself. That goodness that little rascal is back to normal today and hopefully the test results will come back A OK. Busy day for you tomorrow, but I’m sure it’ll be great seeing your family. Good luck to your niece on her test.

It’s all sounding lovely @MamaBee, I bet the navy looks stunning. I’m getting itchy to inject some colour here, but the silver grey helps keep the house cooler, so I think we’ll stick with it.

Off to go in the pool before it gets too hot, 102 predicted today, make it stop!

Have a great weekend lovely NIRIDIs:wavey:

@missy Great news that Greg’s MRI just showed a cyst! I know quite a few people that have a cyst on their liver. My mom gets them..The radiologists and doctors she’s seen have all said they’re common and nothing to worry about!
Here I am worrying about the three little windows over the bed..when I realized I have a large one over the bathtub in the primary bathroom! Yikes!!!
I have to check out where the neighbor’s windows are but I think they are level with mine.

Hi, I don't usually post on this thread, but thought I'd provide a suggestion that worked for us in the past: Window privacy film. Depending on the pattern you buy, they let in varying amounts of light and provide varying degrees of privacy. There are tons of sellers on Etsy, but this one looks good because her products are PVC-free:

Good luck with whatever you decide to do, @MamaBee. BTW, your house is gorgeous!

HI:

NIRDI shout out!!!!!!

@missy how fun to have company! Your sister is such a good egg it is nice for you to help. Wishing your niece a successful writing!! Glad Oliver is OK.

@MamaBee nice to "see" you! Your house looks gorgeous! I love those tubs but can no longer get in and out of them! How's you Mom?

@marcy is your SIL still with you? Hope you are not working too hard!

@mrs-b hope you are feeling well.

Had a nice ride today--a bit windy and warmish at 20C. Bit of haze. Off to happy hour shortly!

cheers--Sharon

Hi @canuk-gal! Thank you! I want to get in the tub so badly when we move in..but like you I’m afraid to get in it.. A friend just dislocated her shoulder because she slipped getting out. She had to yell for her husband. She was in excruciating pain so she wanted him to pop it back in. He couldn’t do it so they called an ambulance. I also have lower back issues so not sure I’m going to attempt it..There’s also no ledge to swing my feet in..
Enjoy your Happy Hour!

Ok..I’m obsessing about the three little windows over the bed. I could do white linen drapes like this..I don’t like curtains behind the bed but if I left them open during the day like this..maybe? It would make them look like one window..I don’t know if I could like it..Or…I could just stack the curtains on each side showing the three windows..It’s good talking it out because I think leaving the drapes open during the day and stacked to the side may be okay..What do you guys think?EA2CE097-BA70-4E50-A626-0771ED916053.jpeg

@MamaBee -

Have you thought about micro blinds in-set to each window? I prefer blinds over curtains as they give a more sculptured look, and these would give complete privacy and draw very little attention to themselves.

And I would be in that tub in a heartbeat! Take it slowly, and bend down and hold onto the sides of the bath. Put an anti-slip mat in the tub as well. You'll be fine!

@missy -

I'm so glad Oliver is eating ok today!

And YAYAYAY re Greg's cyst! Never was I so pleased to hear of someone having a cyst on their liver! Seriously - life isn't for the fainthearted, is it?!

I hope you had a lovely Friday.

Love to all the NIRDIs! <3

Good morning lovely ladies and happy Caturday Saturday!!!

@mrs-b TYSM and I am awaiting a very happy update from you...fingers and toes crossed. I agree completely. Life is not for the faint of heart and aging is not for sissies. LOL truth! And speaking of truth I was cleaning up yesterday in anticipation of our company today and I found your wonderful Christmas letter from December. I re read it. LOVED re reading it

@Austina thank you and I am nervous for my niece lol. She spent all summer away and just came home on Amtrak last night and this morning left the house at 4:30 AM to travel to the test site. So I feel nervous because it is hectic and plus she did not study at all this summer for the test. Just hoping for the best. I cannot believe the SATs are still in existence tbh..they were talking about doing away with them decades ago. TY for the well wishes for Ollie. Fingers and toes crossed. We are keeping a close eye on him...labs were normal. Have a wonderful weekend

@canuk-gal I am so glad you got to cycle yesterday. We haven't cycled since Wednesday due to rain and other obligations and no cycling today because my family is visiting. But I am looking forward to seeing them. I hope happy hour was very happy and you enjoyed it. Have a lovely weekend

@MamaBee my brain is foggy this morning but if I can come up with any other ideas I will let you know. I personally enjoy romantic curtains but they are not for everyone. I have that privacy film on the downstairs bathroom window and it does work but I do not find it pretty. But that is me. I LOVE every room in your house. I also love that tub and ours lis similar but has claw feet or whatever that is called. Your house is stunning and I am so so happy you are in your dream home. You deserve it.

@Slickk happy weekend, have fun and enjoy

@bling_dream19 I hope your week was good and you are doing well

Hey everyone else. Hello and have a great weekend. XOXO

Good morning lovely ladies. We had a fantastic time with our family and the day flew by. My nieces are such wonderful young women now. Not only incredibly smart and sweet but kind, polite and overall amazing individuals. I am so proud of them. The oldest who is applying to colleges this year wants to be a marine biologist and the youngest who is going into her sophomore year in HS wants to be a pediatric oncologist. They are really incredible in every way IMO. My sister and BIL have done a great job raising them.

A few photos. Well more than a few. Please feel free to skip them.

Bethany was gone all summer doing marine work then visiting colleges. Here she is tagging a shark..cool

bethanytaggingshark.jpg

The girls have grown so fast. I remember Greg and I being at the hospital for each of them when they were born. Feels like yesterday

We had a wonderful day. Our weather cooperated and it was in the 80s with a nice breeze

familyaugust2023.png

I am almost the shortest one in the family now...my youngest niece is almost taller than me. And when she was born they said she would be super petite. LOL. For reference I am officially 5'5.5" or 65.5" yet I feel so short next to my family haha

missyandthegirlsaugust2023.png

It was sad when they left. They left their house at 4AM because Bethany had the SATs to take near us that morning. It was a very long day but fun (despite the SATs that is LOL) and it was so great seeing them :kiss2:

The youngest set the phone up to take this photo . I have no clue how to do that but it is cool

Thanks for reading and have a great Sunday lovely ladies. We are going cycling today and it's been four days since we cycled so looking forward to it. Enjoy your Sunday whatever you do. XOXO

Good morning NIRDIs!! Sorry I have been AWOL for awhile. I try to keep up with all of your news, but I fear I am woefully behind. Hey @missy I really enjoyed the photos of your lovely family--your nieces really have grown up so much. And I am so happy about Greg's MRI results. Did I tell you I had cataract surgery when I was in my early 50's? Best thing I ever did! Now I can recognize some of the bottles in my shower and I no longer mistakenly use conditioner for body wash.

@mrs-b I think your avatar picture is fantastic! So glad you and Eleanor are spending time together this summer. I am sending all positive thoughts your way regarding Tim's medical results. I think you are waiting for biopsies? At any rate, it also looks as if your back is feeling somewhat better after the surgery as well? I think of you often, as you were the catalyst for my changing career trajectories. I finished collecting data for the audio recording therapy study and am doing data analysis now. I'll be presenting this in Puerto Rico at a conference in October. I am also writing a grant to treat depression in care partners of people living with dementia, which I hope to submit in October.

Just celebrated our 20th anniversary and are going back to Mt. Tamalpais this week, where we got married.

To all of you--thank you so much for being here! It is such a wonderful community to have and each of you contributes so much.

Enjoy a wonderful trip to Mt Tamalpais!

Hello lovelies

Congratulations on your 20th anniversary @springerspaniel! Great to hear from you.

@missy, what lovely photos of your family, and you’re right to be so proud of the amazing young ladies your nieces are. Your sister and BIL have done a fantastic job raising them to be such good and caring individuals. I’m so glad you had such a great time, doesn’t it feel great to have a ‘normal’ day after so long?

We had large buckets of water holding down the pool cover, so we used that water to water the plants, as we’re replacing them with sand bags. Then we went in the pool yesterday, and it was lovely, then it heated up to about 104, so we stayed firmly put indoors.

Went out first thing to finish watering the plants, (it’s our official watering day where we can use the hose), and will be heading out to the pool shortly.

Have a great day lovely NIRDIS :wavey:

HI:

NIRDI shout out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool kicks @missy !!! Your family is a treasure and that picture of the shark is, well, pretty cool. I am certain your niece aced her exam. Gorgeous day, did you guys have a BBQ?

@springerspaniel lovely to hear from you. You sound very productive and happy. Continued success to you.

@MamaBee sounds like things are going well. You don't have to buy more furniture, do you? Regardless your spaces look very lovely--and good luck with the tub and shades!

@Austina we needed to keep cool here as well! Rode early as temps are upwards to 30C. I really should have made better friends with our neighbours with pools!

Actually cooking tonight--I realize things are accumulating in my freezer

cheers--Sharon

Good morning girls! Happy Monday!

@canuk-gal we did have a BBQ. Greg loves grilling and we had many options for the meat and non meat eaters in the family. The day went way too fast but it was a wonderful GTG. Just wish my parents could've come but my dad cannot drive that far anymore and is experiencing lots of leg pain and swelling. I worry so. Aging is not for the faint of heart or sissies that is for sure. I wish life was different and I wish we didn't get fragile and frail as we aged. Sorry for waxing poetic. I am in that mood this morning. Hope you enjoyed a wonderful weekend

@Austina thank you so much. Yes they are unlike many of the kids their age I observe. It really does come down to parenting and environment. Yes it was nice seeing everyone as the last time we had them over to our house was the summer of 2021. After we all got vaccinated. Glad you enjoyed the pool this weekend. My parents keep their pool open til October usually lol but our neighbors are closing their pool soon. I imagine in your state where it stays warmer longer you will keep it open for a bit longer

@bling_dream19 hope you had a lovely weekend

@Slickk oy that was the last weekend in August. How did that happen so fast...hope you have a good week ahead and all is well

Hi everyone else. Hope all is well. I'm nervous this AM as I have a procedure/test this morning at 7AM and not sure what it will show. I do not have a good feeling so that is why I am a bit anxious. Hoping for the best. After that we are cycling and by tonight and tomorrow there is a rain event predicted that will make cycling not possible so hopefully today will be a wonderful cycling day at least. Have a great day whatever you do and be well. XOXO

Our sweet treat during our cycling adventures yesterday

@mrs-b Greg had pistachio plus another flavor I forget what. But OMG that pistachio is amazing

HI:

NIRDI shout out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is 31C here! I rode early and got some ice cream. LOL. My DH is golfing in this heat.

@missy I am sorry to hear about your Dad's legs, hope it is nothing serious. And I am sure they were greatly missed at your GTG. Hope you can see them soon. I love me a good BBQ!!!!!

@Austina stay cool!!! How are your plants? My pots look like hell. lol But I am not ready to give up on them yet. Many plants/pots in the hood look great, just not mine.

@marcy how's your weather? We have a bit of a heat wave, but it looks like rain later in the week.

cheers--Sharon
