tgal- what are the questions you''re thinking of thus far?

it''s not a question but something I would make sure anyone watching my kids had is first aid training and infant/child CPR.

it''s not a question but something I would make sure anyone watching my kids had is first aid training and infant/child CPR.

Have you ever been convicted of any misdemeanors or felonies?

Tgal--not so much a Q either, but i would make sure expectations re: non-child care stuff is clear (like, does she tidy the house or start dinner while Amelia is sleeping etc.)

Tgal- are you using a service? a friend of mine just interviewed nanny''s from two local services and found one. I could tell you which ones if you are interested. I''m not sure if services do part time though. I found a day care, der kinder, that I am in love with and they do as little as one day a week, but with Amelia so small I understand keeping her at home. DH doesnt want to do daycare yet...but I''m sure by the first of the year he will be so far behind in work that we will need it.

I also found this link online...nanny interview

I''ve been MIA lately...with the new job and a 10 month old. I can hardly believe it 10 months?!?! Ian has the worse diaper rash in history...DH took him to the pedi this week and we got medication and the pedi said it was a fungus?!? but the ointment made him break out more. It is a serious mess, and I feel so bad. Like I leave for work and my son has a raw and nasty butt. I am sure it isnt due to negligence...i still feel bad.

On a brighter note, a friend of a friend is starting a photography business and she is awesome. SHe offered to come over and shoot Ian int he morning for free! YAY! so I will post pics when I get them. SO i better get to bed.

I hope all the babies (and mommies) are well!

Softly: I have a 3.5 year old, and in the times he''s tried to mess w/bedtimes, draw things out, I''m just very firm & no nonsense in my discipline. I don''t read another story, and we have a baby gate hard mounted (aka screwed into the wall) at his door, so he can''t get out. I will go to him if he wakes, but I tell him its time to sleep (making sure all is ok first, since he doesn''t wake up often) and then I close the door & let him fuss/cry whatever. I''m a meanie. But all the times I''ve watched Supernanny, she does the same thing with kids who are pushing the bedtime boundaries. I need my sleep, so you know the phrase "pick your battles?", well that''s the one battle that is important to me. And in my experience, CIO worked with my toddler. Sure he can holler longer, but I only had to do it once or twice and he realized mom is not an easy mark. And bedtimes are a breeze in my house. In my head, I''ve got the feeling that if I can''t stand up to/outlast a toddler, how the heck am I gonna survive puberty & teen years? And then the other thing that goes with that, if I am a consistent disciplinarian now about what I consider important for us (it varies with each family, I realize) like bedtimes, eating, respecting people & property then I am paving the way for those teen years with some solid foundation work. At least that''s my story and I''m stickin'' to it! LOL

For me, discipline means to teach, not yell or punish...so when I say discipline, its just setting examples & following through on our rituals, etc.

Ella: Thanks for the offer! I''m just glad you signed up. There are message boards there too that are uber helpful if you are confused, and you can always ask me questions here, or post a question there in the newbie section. It''s actually VERY good in the beginning. I''m still running off my original stockpile. Sure there are 12 week cycles, but stuff is always on sale. The trick is not overbuying in the beginning. My advice, set a weekly budget, only clip coupons for stuff you actually use (I bought more air freshener & cheap shampoo) and don''t stockpile stuff that is NOT part of your regular consumption.

I still shop at Costco. Some things are just cheaper there... Coffee beans, diapers, formula, eggs, chocolate milk, fresh produce, laundry detergent, kirkland softener. I am down to a $400 a month grocery bill. Including beer/wine, dog & cat food (high end stuff), diapers, formula etc. The stuff I get so cheap on GG are my meats, cereals, pastas, bread, razors, shave cream, toiletries, condiments, seasonings, drugs etc. I guess the big thing for me is that I am not running out to the market daily and blowing $30 to $50 a pop. I cook with what''s in my house. And I have everything I need in my pantry. That is a first. It''s totally taught me how to shop. I''m now a "cherrypicker". I only have 3 or 4 things off my list that I need each week...IF that. I haven''t had to shop off my GG list in almost a month. I have more stuff stockpiled. I need to check my pantry though & see what''s running low & keep an eye out for that stuff.

MS Flutter, D had the same thing a few months ago, what I did to make it go away was NAKED TIME. I mean hours of it. Either put down towels on your carpet, or just go hang out outside. I also put a thin layer of Lotrimin AF (yes, the foot stuff...diaper rash, jock itch, yeast infections, athlete''s foot...all the same thing...tinea) and cortisone on at each change. Just a light thin layer. Then put on Desitin or any other Zinc oxide cream super heavy on it. But fresh air is the best medicine. If you can just let him go diaperless for a few hours, it will almost heal up completely. You gotta get that fresh air. New foods can cause it...

a few new weekend pics :-)

Cohen has ''graduated" out of his stroller bassinet and is now is in the regular chair, i think he likes it :-)

couldn''t resist posting this one, last weekend we stayed at my sister''s place and Co woke up reallly early--my BIL took him so i could sleep in a bit and when i woke up he was laying on the pull out couch and my BIL was signing to him (he''s a jazz musician/music teacher) sooo cute...

coguitar2.jpg

Delurking to say that Cohen is such a CUTIE PIE!!!
Look how happy he is sitting like a big boy in the stroller! What stroller is that?
Love his name by the way

I totally agree with the first aid training and infant/child CPR. I''d also want to know about smoking. I wouldn''t want the babysitter or nanny lighting up around my little guy.

I am looking into childcare for James this week. I''ve really been putting it off but I know that financially I can''t afford to quit my job

.

James is doing so well these days. He goes to the pedi for his one month appt on Wednesday so I''m looking forward to that. I''m wondering how much he weighs now. Hubby says at least 7lbs.

Diver- $400 a month..that is awesome..I need to do a better job on the grocery budget...

Jas12- Cohen is just the cutest thing ever. I let Jake ride in his stroller without the carseat and he loved it too. just looked around at everything on the walk. what a great BIL to watch him for a bit so you could get some extra sleep.

diva- you''ll have to take some recent pics of james for us...

Thanks ladies. I found some online sites as well. The smoking tip is a good one...I didn''t think about that at all...

Jas, ya know I just lurve yer boy.

Diva, glad to hear James is doing well. Aw, 7 lbs...I miss those days. Keep enjoying them!

TGuy''s parents flew in today. They are so sweet and I loved seeing them with Amelia. I''ll check in from time to time but won''t be on as much as usual since I have to be a good hostess.

Aweee...Co looks so happy in his new stroller.
Love his open mouth laugh

The pix of his uncle serenading him is too cute
5.gif

Oh no, that''s not good about Co refusing the bottle.
At least you got 34 more weeks of staying home with him :)

So any luck with the soothie nipple?
J will play with it, but not eat from it

TGal
Good luck with the nanny interview.
That''s great that you''ll have Amelia home with you.
Do you think you''ll be able to get work done with her around?
I have friends who told me that it''s utterly impossible because their kids just want to play with them.

Enjoy your time with the in-laws.

MsF
Poor Ian.
Hope the rash/fungus goes away soon.
Can''t wait to see those professional pictures.

Jess
That''s great that James is doing well.
I think you still owes us some pix of your little boy.
Yup, I remember those days of holding a 7lber
5.gif

So tiny and precious.
Now I have to grunt everytime I hoist my big girl over my shoulder to burp her.

Ella
You supermom. Where do you find time to get into Facebook with 2 little ones on hand?
Hey, you owe us some pix too -- of K and G in their new tub.

Haloangel--thanks!! His stroller is a Bugaboo frog--i really like it. It comes with a bassinet attachment that he used up until this week.

MrsS. You''ll have to post some pics of Jake in his stroller. I feel like time is going by too quickly --where''s my newborn?

Tgal--enjoy your time with tguy''s parents!

Lili--Cohen did end up taking the *last* nipple bottle combo we tried (spent a small fortune trying so many things, sheeesh) The combo that ended up working was the new Nuk Orthodontic nipple (it is flat at the bottom like the nipple would be and has the wide base so he can ''latch'' onto it) and the Born Free vented glass bottle. Have you tried that brand of nipple? It''s strange that Co took the Adiri bottle for so long and then just rejected it. I hope that doesn''t happen again.
How are you feeling about going back to work now?

Lili, MrsS, Tgal, are your babes putting *everything* in their mouths!? In the past 2 weeks Co has become obsessed with his new coordination. He is also loving blowing raspberries with his drooly mouth-spraying everyone within a few feet. He says "ahhh" followed by a big raspberry: "ahhh ppppsttt, ahhhh psssstt"
37.gif

Jas that pic of Co & bil made me smile. How sweet is that? Is your bil a dad? If not, it looks like he might be a good one.

MrsS: GG is a cult. LOL. You really do get sucked in. But it works. It''s hard the first few weeks.

later!

Cohen looks so cute and comfy in his bugaboo. He is such a big boy now.

I can''t wait to join you ladies with baby issues.

Diver--i am too lazy to go back and look but what was the name of the book you recommended for budgeting?
I am BAD for g-shopping several times a week. I do so b/c i like fresh veggies and we go thru them in a day or two, but i always end up getting stuff we don''t need and consequently wasting $$.

Hello friends! We are finally back. I will go back and see what I missed later. Vegas was fun and it was nice seeing old college friends (and showing off T of course!). BTW, a big thank you to Diver! I remembered what you said about bringing duck tape and boy did it come in handy! The hotel gave us a crib that looked like something out of a 1940s, Russian, orphanage (I''ll post a pic later) so we used extra towels to make a "bumper" secured with duct tape. We then realized that T finds the sound of ripping duct tape hilarious. But our bathroom was big enough for the crib so she had her own room. Also I sat next to a young teacher on the way back to CLT and she was so nice I got her number to babysit (is that strange????) Then another lady wanted to exchange numbers for play dates (we talked during our very long lay over and she has a 1 year old DD) DH saw (and got to meet/take picture) with one of his favorite UFC fighters so he was on cloud nine the whole day. Though he could not remember where (or what lot) he parked our car so we had to get security to help us (took 1.5 hrs...

). All in all a good trip. So now I have a few days home before our next one.

Hope all the mommies are doing good!!! Missed you ladies!!!

Summer is crazy! DH took a few days off and we were able to get a lot of stuff done (landscaping, house projects and family time). It was great. Today was kind of weird without him. Wow, I sound like a loser. T and I had a good day, though. We went to the pool and ran a few errands.

Bobo~How are you and Mr. Bobo and Little B doing?

Tgal~Funny pic of Amelia. I need to keep my camera close and get one of T "in action." I see exactly where you''re coming from on the sleep standpoint. T (who is/was(I hope WAS) colicy was sleeping 8-10 hour stretches by 10 weeks. We''ve been taking her to some 5:30 adn 6pm baseball games lately (it''s the final tournament for my little brother and I simlply REFUSED to take her prior to this because I didn''t want to mess up her sleep routine) and we''re not getting her to bed until 8 or 8:30. The poor girl is so confused. She slept until 8:15 this morning. She has been so fun to have at the games, though. She thinks that when everyone claps it''s for her. She smiles so big. I just feel so guilty having her out of her routine. Oh, and the two hour window thing. Still true for Tayva (for the most part) and she''s 6 months old!! Good luck with the nanny search.

Jas~Glad you found a bottle that Co will take!! What adorable pics of your little man. He''s getting so big. Love that big smile in his stroller!

Lili~Funny pic of J!! Sorry her nap schedule isn''t what you''d like it to be. Tayva went through a "nap strike" that lasted a couple weeks and I was TIRED of spending the entire day trying to get her to sleep.

msf~Poor Ian! Hope it gets better soon!

Diva~How was Jame''s appointment?

Tacori~Glad you had a good trip! I am laughing out loud about the crib and duct tape! Can''t wait for some pics!! Oh, and I used my shopping cart cover the other day and T did great. She absolutely loved it. I''ve been using it for highchairs at restaurants, but this was the first successfull time in a shopping cart.

T had her 6 month pics Saturday. When I get the CD from the photographer I''ll post a few. Hopefully they turned out alright.

I love my little guy!

The one of James in the carrier was taken today, I''m the blonde and the dude is my hubby - prior to a major haircut.

Burk - James'' appt is on Wednesday this week and I''ll be sure to post an update as soon as I can. How is T doing?

Tacori - So funny about the crib!

More soon!

oh Diva...he is just such a cutie...i just love the newborn teeny tiny he is. Just precious.

Diva, you and your family look great! How darling!

I hope that Co will continue taking this nipple too.
Yes, I did try the Nuk nipple. I think it is one of the few that she''ll play with (by that I mean she''ll entertain us with gumming it for a brief moment).
I let my sister bbsat her today and she basically just cried herself to sleep
7.gif

Haha, that''s so cute. No, J hasn''t done the raspberry yet.
She does put her whole fist in her mouth.
Drives me mad cuz then she rubbed her fists across her face when she''s cranky and sleepy,
29.gif

which then create rashes all over her face.

Tacori
Welcome home.
It''s always quiet with you gone
5.gif

Question: what is DD -- I take it refers to your baby....but what does it stand for?

Burk
Ooo...can''t wait to see the 6-mths pix.
Don''t keep us waiting too long.

Jess
James is so teeny tiny
5.gif

The binky looks humongous on him.
So darling and precious.
