quick 1 handed check in....

my sil told me i''m supposed to have been reading to my babies since day one. did you? I sing, talk, make faces, etc.., but no books until yesterday when ,out of guilt i tried to feed them & read hop on pop at the same time.

(they are 7 weeks)

If it matters, I''m an English/reading teacher and now i''m all sputtering about.

If this is the time to start reading to the boys of course i will find time...

thanks for input...

more later when i can...long day today & doggie is sick...w/ dh out all day, i can''t walk him & will be cleaning the floor a lot ewwwwww

Snlee Sorry to butt in but one of my friends got a few really bad ones and she swears by nursing on all fours too! Sounds weird, but she said it was the only thing that worked for her.

NF, it does work for the wicked ones. It is hard to do so for the mini ones I did other methods.

Snlee, also, I forgot to mention while nursing "push"/rub the clog towards D''s mouth.

Jas, I did not start reading to her until 4 months or so. Whenever she started showing interest. But then again I didn''t read or play music to my belly. I still think she is turning out okay

This thread blew up in the one 12 hours I was away!! So busy trying to find new daycare, school and volleyball games last night (senior night) and tonight I don''t have much time. But, had to pop in and say Chloe is an absolute doll. Love all the hair!!!

I''ll be back later tonight to catch up with all the other mommies!

lol -- i didn''t either. i think i really need to settle down & stop being baited so easily. then again i suppose i could strap ''em into my dh''s autofeeder and do wagner''s entire ring cycle with hand puppets. homemade of course

thanks for the grounding!!!

janine, she is a dollbaby..thanks for sharing the pics..

MF- what a cool boy b-day party theme. such great pictures too...

jackiejas-I didn''t read/play music to my belly either. jake sits in on the books I read to my girls at night. He''ll be well versed as to who all the Disney princesses are by the time he''s one
41.gif
He''s 6 months and usually just tries to eat the book. I do "read" (show him pictures etc) books like the thick cardboard "Goodnight Moon" stories but I surely don''t do it every day..again he usually just tries to eat those books too..

burk- glad you checked in

tacori- i thought of you and tessa this morning b/c my 4 year old was watching yo gabba gabba...it''s okay to lose.....lol...

Jas, even now T gets bored pretty quickly. I think she likes eating the book (like Jake) OR turning the pages MORE than listening to the book. There are a few that hold her attention ("It''s Not Easy Being a Bunny" and "Very Busy Spider" which has animal noises she TRIES to mimic) and she gets this HUGE smile when I start to read them. I think it is cute b/c often times she will get books out herself and just sit down (alone) and flip through the pages. Miss Independent! I will ground you anytime you need it
2.gif
In a lot of ways I am not the typical 1st time mom. I am pretty laid back.

MrsS, how funny! "There is a party in my tummy" is our family favorite. I plan on using that to my advantage one day. Tessa also loves the funny faces. She LAUGHS. How strange that a baby can have a sense of humor. Jake sounds like Tessa though now she just likes to turn the pages more than anything and doesn''t wait for me to finish reading the page. It gets a little annoying but I still love her!

LOL! Jay loves yo gabba gabba. I think my all-time favorite episode is the "don''t bite your friends" one. Hi-larious.

"Bite? No! Chop? Yes!" I know that well. Haha. Baby crack it is. She dances and talks to the TV the whole time.

Jackie, I started reading to Amelia at 3 weeks and now she will sit there and "read" along and flips the pages all by herself!
34.gif

Not!
41.gif

I did read to her because her grandma bought her books from Oz. I probably started somewhere in the 2 month range because honestly, I was bored myself and it was just something to do. I still read to her once a day for a few minutes and she does seem to like touching the board book pages. But that''s about it.

snlee, of course your Derek is a good boy!
30.gif

Well, butternut squash is officially a hit. 3 feedings of this stuff in a row and she opens her mouth totally wide. I''m so happy that she''s finally getting into eating.
36.gif

yay for the squash t-gal. Jake loves him some squash too. I''ve done most of the veggies and gave him some banana''s and you would have thought it was icecream he loved it so much. So far he enjoys the orange veggies, tolerates the green ones and adores the bananas.

Yeah, go figure. I would have thought the sweet potato would have been way more of a hit, but maybe it will be if I go back to it now. I still have carrots, another kid of sweet potato and maybe some regular squash to go through. Because she seems to not be overly into food, I'm a bit hesitant to give her fruit right now. I know for some it doesn't matter, but I would hate for her to be one of those who decides she will only have sweet stuff. So a couple more weeks of veggie only, with an avocado thrown in!

ETA - what other green veggies are there besides peas for baby's first foods? So far overall I have done rice cereal, oatmeal, yams (sweet potato), peas and butternut squash.

That's my question too :)
The only veggie I saw on the shelves are green peas, carrot, and sweet potato.
No, haven't made any myself yet.

Thanks for sharing.

Haha, she is a show off.
When she saw me with the camera, she immediately took her hands off the table and tried to balance!

green beans. I don''t make my own though, they are store bought first foods.

forgot, jake''s had prunes too and likes them as well.

good idea to hold off on the fruits t-gal until you''re sure amelia will eat the veggies. I will be careful which fruits I give Jake too for the same reason.

Have a few minutes so I''m trying to get caught up on all the kiddo happenings around here!

Jas~That picture had me laughing out loud. Good thing I didn''t have students in the room!

Tgal~Good to *see* you!! Doc does think Tayva is growing out of the reflux so that is really good news. Thanks for checking out the pics. My husband loves the ones with her sticking her tongue out!! I''m sure we''ll have at least one of those in a frame somewhere!
3.gif
The daycare situation is really crappy but I''m thinking that it''s all for the best. Do I really want a person like that taking care of my child? Oh, and the pics of A are fabulous! Does she like the jumperoo?

mrss~yay for some mommy time when you head back home!! And double yay for sleep!!

Tacori~Sorry Miss T is having a crabby time with the teeth. It is only temporary. She''ll be back to her happy self as soon as those darn things come through! I agree it was very unprofessional of my daycare provider to do this. She asked me yesterday when I picked T up if we could pick her up on Friday at noon, now. I wanted to be like "are you kidding me?" but I just smiled and said we''d find a way to work it out. Thanks for checking out T''s pics. I thought our photographer did a good job. Now to decide what to order....

be back for more...

Janine--what a precious angel
30.gif

Tacori--i SO remember your nursing on all fours days--betcha you''re glad those are far behind you!?

jas--i started reading early on but i felt ridiculous. Mostly did it to pass the time while nusing for hours on end. i personally think just hearing dialogue (stream of consciousness dribble ) is good enuf IMO. Not something to stress over!

Tgal--yay for butternut squash
36.gif
Co loves it too. So cute when they are into eating. Co has the huge mouth when he LUVS something, and the just open mouth when he is just ''so so'' about a taste. The other day he had peas and he actually gagged but kept coming back for more
40.gif
So far his faves are avacado, carrots and banana.

I am freaking right now. I have to work an event tonight (from 4:30 to 9:00) charlie has drive to the event and i''ll have to sneak out and nurse Co at 7:00 cuz i can''t leave for that long, the house is in shambles b/c we leave tomorrow evening. I have to get it cleaned and do last minute packing, laundry, runnung around. Eeeks, why i am i PSing?!!!!

May not get a chance to check in again, see y''all in a few weeks

Thank you, DiaDiva! Nice to see you here.

Janine, she is just gorgeous! Congratulations, she is the most precious, beautiful little darling.

snlee, another vote for nursing on all fours! It really does work, I have to resort to it from time to time. Everyone''s experience is different, but if it''s any comfort, I found BFing very, very hard for the first month, then the easiest, most convenient thing in the world thereafter. I get the occasional clog still, but 99% better than in month one, which was just a living nightmare! It got easier for me and I''m hoping it will for you too. I''m nearly at 5 months and I actually really enjoy it now and I will be quite sad when it comes to an end. Fingers crossed you will too.

Jen

Well, I have had a very stressful day. T and I left the house to do THREE errands. That''s it. Should have taken an hour. First two went fairly smoothly. I was driving to BRU which was my last stop (I wanted to use my diaper and wipes coupons) and the light was green. I was driving straight through the light when I *almost* got hit. She came like 3 feet from me. What made me so angry was the lady (on the other street) was in the middle lane, at a red light when she decided she wanted to turn right (even though there was a line of cars IN THE RIGHT HAND TURN LANE!)
29.gif
After some slamming of the brakes and some curse words the accident was avoided but it really shook me up. How could someone be so careless and stupid? This is a moving weapon! I have a baby in the car! Furthermore she DID turn right after I went through the intersection but veered into the farthest left hand lane (if this is making any sense). Maybe she was drunk. I don''t know. So I finally made it to BRU. Called DH to calm down. Then T and I went in to only get two things. After I put them in my cart, boom! Lights out. Yes BRU lost all power. I had hope it would come back on. After 30 mins. I gave up. T was tired, hungry, and I was pretty sure had pooped. So we went to my car (without the diapers or wipes) as I was thinking "what ELSE can go wrong." Oh...wait...it gets better. I cannot find my car keys!
20.gif
32.gif
23.gif
Very unlike me. I am starting to panic and think who I can call. I know I didn''t lock them IN the car b/c I use the key as the alarm. So I think maybe I dropped them by the diapers. I head back in to BRU and I am not a religious woman but I was praying at this point. Luckily someone found them and turned them in. My car could have been stolen (it SAYS Jeep on the key) but thankfully the 5% of bad guys were not the ones to find my keys. So now we are home safe. Cleaned up the blow out and hopefully she will take a nap. *sigh*

TGal, T likes veggies a lot. She LOVES green beans. I did all veggies first and it was so worth it. Even now we feed her more veggies than fruit. Now if only she would take that darn sippy and more table food.

misspinky~Cute pics!! The first time I found Tayva standing in her crib I think I stopped breathing for a few minutes! Scary. Adorable pictures!

msf~Love the pro pics from Ian''s birthday!! how is work going?

Tgal again~ so glad the butternut squash is a hit with A.

Janine~Such a sweet girl!

iluvcarats~All the pics make my heart melt too....and then I remember that T has woken up and ended up in bed with us twice the past week. Not so much ready for another.

snlee~Yuck on the clogged duct. Hope some of the others suggestions work!

jas~I have read to T every night since around 6 weeks just as part of bed time routine (bath, book, bottle and bed). I also read some times during the day as well but she also likes to get books out to eat and just turn the pages and talk to. I used to read her Glamour, Us Weekly and People magazines when she was really little. She didn''t know the difference!!
3.gif

Ack....bells gonna ring....more later

Tacori, you poor thing. What an awful experience you had. It would have scared me to death. I wish that awful lady would have been caught and give an big fat ticket. I am so glad you and little Tessa are home safe.

Love, Linda

Tacori~We must have been posting at the same time! I'm so sorry about your crappy day. Some times when it rains, it poors! I so hate bad drivers. So glad you found your keys and your home safe and sound!

These babies are TOO CUTE FOR WORDS; these pictures ALWAYS make my day Sunny!!!
9.gif

mrss~so funny about Jake loving the bananas like ice cream! T absolutely hates bananas. It's weird. It's the only food she will not eat.

lili~I only do store bought as well. I had really good intentions.....

tacori YIKES!!! sorry about the bad day! stupid drivers i tell ya! BRU lost power? that is crazy!! but glad you made it home ok and every thing''s fine now. and about the sippy, i really don''t think it''s a big deal. and she will get to table food when she''s ready. she just really likes her baby food, and she seems to be eating that, so i *think* she should be ok for a bit. DH''s coworker''s child never took the sippy and went straight to drinking from a regular cup. but honestly, i think B only took the sippy because i almost never gave him a bottle. i just nurse and still do, as i am way too lazy to pump. i think in his 10 months of existence, he''s had a bottle like 10 times.

misspinky how adorable is your little girl! such a beauty!

I am going to lurk on the preggo thread. heartburn, fatigue , aching back, swollen boobs (hmm...babylust starting to fade.....whew)
