Do you think it''s stupid to go back for another masters when I am finishing up this one in May???

Be honest with me...I value and trust your opinions.
I''d love to give you an honest opinion, but I just don''t know!

I do know that you can have *too* much education... but I don''t know where that line is drawn.

Your school is free, so from that perspective... I''d say get as much as you can.

what''s your latest MA in?

and how is your school free?

I work at a University, memba?

But I still pay taxes on it and it gets deducted from my pay

My current MS is in Human Resource Management and Organizational Development.

I guess it depends on what you want to do with your life then. Psych is going to require a specific Masters as opposed to a general one so if you want to be a counselor, then go for it.

Back in a bit ladies. We''re stir crazy so we''re going for a walk to Ruby Tuesdays for lunch. Yummmmm salad bar!

I just know I''m not going to love the corporate grind - I know it!

But two more years of school just seems like so much

but then I think, if I love the material, maybe it won''t be as hard as it is now? HR is srsly f***ing boring.
(no offense to HR peeps out there).

If you want to be a counselor, go to school. You can''t do anything with a BA in psych (obvi you know that) so if thats what you''d like to do.. you have to get the MA or PhD.

Have you tried volunteering places where you can see if you''d enjoy it? What type of counseling do you want to do?

I was a Psych major and always thought I''d go that route. Then I took a I/O Psych course and my plan deviated. Plus the thought of a PhD just seemed like too much. But now my heart is pulling me away from this crap.

Bia is confused.

You need more practical experience! You have to make sure you''d enjoy counseling.

Mental Health Counseling. The thing is, I could work in pretty much any industry as a counselor because I'd have the management degree as well as the clinical degree. I'd ideally like to work part-time in a hospital, part-time privately. Or just full-time privately after I build up my career.

eta: the good thing about this program is that if I decide to do a PhD, I'll have a lot of the classes I need out of the way - so the rest would be mostly research based. But I'm not that interested in research, so I don't know that I'd do the PhD for any other reason than wanting a doctorate (which imo, is not worth it).

Do you have a lot of experience working with different types of people? Do you just want general "counseling" or is there something more specific you''d want to counsel on? Like children, adults, PTSD, abuse, family, etc, etc..

But if you get the PhD. We can be Mrs. and Mrs. Dr. B!

Before you rule out PhD, you might talk to some people and see what things are like in the area you want to be in.

For my personal use and suggesting to others, I will not consider anyone who doesn''t have a PhD. (I''ve run into too many MA people who have been no good at what they do and, at least in this area, the PhD people are much easier to find patient reviews)
PhD also leaves open more options including expert witness for court cases and stuff. (not sure if they us MA too or not)

The only way we can relocate is if I find a better paying job than J has in another area. He makes double what I do right now, so... not looking good.
