The LIW Small Talk Thread

Jessie: true! The rose garden we are thinking about is completely outdoor. It would be weird and expensive to have tents everywhere in case of rain. I am imagining what my wedding day would be like if it's raining. With a gazebo, we can exchange our vows and sign our wedding certificate inside the gazebo. I can walk down the alter with a clear umbrella. The guests can bring their own umbrellas. I can imagine a picture of the colorful umbrella from the guests. See... rainy day works perfectly with a gazebo. One rose garden i called today has a gazebo. It is also available on our wedding day. Maybe I should really look into it.

Cali: my FI is like your FI. I always look at bags, even though i might not be buying any. He will remind me how many bags i have and that i don't need that many expensive bags. He is scared of holding my bags and getting them dirty sometimes. He's like, how much is this again? I told him I've moved on from bags to diamonds. He's like, i don't know if that is any better.

Nite girls.

Seattle: the stam is ok. I heard the newer stam is a bit lighter now. Mine is the lighter one, i think. I don't really use it all the time. It can be heavy. However, i don't really carry a lot of stuff with me anyways. I just like the look of it. I like how it is a classic bag. Whenever I buy a designer bag, I will make sure it's a classic. I don't want to spend so much on a bag for the style. If i want a bag for just the style, I'll buy a cheaper bag. You want a classic chanel? Are you talking about the classic flap bag? I have a classic flap bag with gold hardware. I love it so much i don't really use it all the time. That is such a classic. My FI thinks it looks like a bag for a granny. :x btw, the chanel comes with a box. Lol

Morning! :wavey:

BG - when I showed my FI the black classic flap with GHW, he also thought it was more of a mature bag. What color is yours and is it lambskin or caviar? My first chanel was a lambskin and it is the one I use the least since I am so afraid to damage it. I have a few others that aren't lambskin so they definitely get to come out and play more!

Your FI should count himself lucky. I still have my eyes set on my HG bag and I'm also always browsing the diamond selections to pick out a pair of studs... He got off easy compared to my FI, haha.

Have a link to the other garden your considering?

Oh, and I agree with Jessie. Even if you don't buy a dress from them, you absolutely have to go somewhere that serves champagne while you try on dresses. Around Christmas I was trying on eternity bands at TIffany and they offered me champagne, so of course I said yes. It made the shopping experience a lot more fun!

Morning Ladies :wavey:

Morning ladies!

Cali: My chanel bag is black cavier. I wanted to get a lambskin to save money. However, I'm picky. Cavier doesn't seem to scratch that much. For my next bag, I want a Chloe Paddington or a LV Judy. Just my dream. I have a wedding to think about now. I have been calling places. Some places are sooooooooooooooooooooo expensive. They make you get a package. *sigh*

So far I've found:

http://www.seevirtual360.com/themes/2/theme02.aspx?listingID=6970

take a look at it, click rose garden on your right side.

Hmmmm, that place is nice, do you have to purchase a package with them?

The place is just $113.12+HST (2 hour booking of the Rose Garden and Gazebo with hanging baskets, or Deluxe package for $238.56+HST (2 hour booking of the Rose Garden and Gazebo with hanging baskets, 50 chairs, a 4 foot table and 2 chairs and a staff person to set up and take down the chairs.) It is available on your birthday 2011. JESSIE! I'm getting married on your b-day!!!

I just called another place. The guy I talked to is VERY nice and very clear with everything. This place sounds great. I just have to go look at it. $200 for a Rose room (indoor for 50 ppl for reception or in case it rains) or $120 and pick a garden for the ceremony. HOWEVER if you pay $200, you get the rose room for the whole day AND you get to pick a outdoor garden for our wedding ceremony. There are 8 outdoor gardens to show up. Each one is different theme. Some have gazebos. Wedding photos are $80. (That's ok) I'm SO gonna check this out. It is also available on your birthday. heehee I hope this is not too good to be true. *cross finger*

These two places might be hidden gems because they're not central at all. They aren't that far, maybe 30 min drive. All the other places I called are like downtown vancouver. Their packages are $2500+. Too much!

YAY :appl: . Im so excited for you, and excited it my birthday. LoL....Thats just so cool.

Sometimes hidden gems are the best. Also a 30 minutes drive isnt bad at all, just means it might be more secluded and intimate. Also good thing, it give guest 30 minutes to wonder what the place is like, and get all excited and antsy waititng to see the location. :D

Wow BG, those are such great deals! I agree that having the ceremony outside of Vancouver isn't a bad idea at all, plus it's likely your guests haven't been to these gardens so you get a nice little surprise element. You could have a ceremony location really soon, that is so exciting! When are you going to check it out?

And what a funny coincidence that it's Jessie's b-day. That would be awesome if it all works out. :appl:

Thank you! I'm very excited! I will definitely checked those 2 places. My FI has to work this weekend. I'm hoping we can go to the one with 8 gardens on Sunday. It is hard and confusing to take all the pictures and videos of that place. It is better to go with him in person. Then, I'll go to the other rose garden with my parents tomorrow. Since it's small, I'll take pictures and videos of it.

The rose garden at UBC starts booking on Jan 4. I can only do it by email. Maybe I'll find something else I like. I'm hoping I do. I want to be able to book it now and now have to worry about it.

My next step, I need to find a wedding officiant who can speaks Chinese and English. hmm...

http://www.parkandtilford.ca/pandtgardens.htm This the one I'm leading toward. So many gardens to choose from.

see, lots of different options. You might be able to find something else you really like, and be able to book it sooner, so its one less thing you have to worry about.

I am so hungry. I am waiting for the pizza and wings to be ready. Yummy. I found/booked my makeup artist. One more thing done. Yeah.

Oooo, congrats on the makeup artist. Make sure you like her work before you put money down. Hmmmm, pizza sounds so good, but so bad for the diet.

Well, she works for clarins at the department store. My mom and I have been buying stuff from her for awhile. She is very detail. We like her. She is not pushy at all. She is fun to talk to. She knows my skin type and did some makeup on me a few times for fun when she had no customers (to try on new products ) I like the way she does the makeup. I also like how she does her own makeup. Then, we realized she went to professional makeup school and does wedding makeup. Even her manager told us she does the best makeup.I think it is easier to work with someone who knows my skin type. We didn't have to put down any deposit. I don't need to pay for the trial makeup session. She said we'll just do the trial wedding makeup at the department store. Heehee. That works for me.

I have bad cramp. I totally deserved it. I shouldn't drink cold stuff. I am so bad.

Okay, that works than, espically since you know her already.

you get cramps from drinking cold stuff? O, i love COLD COLD water, the colder the better.

Oh no. I forgot to say I got my period today. It usually get cramps, but not today... until I drank cold stuff at night. Bad call. If I drink cold stuff when i have my period, my cramp gets worse.

So are you going to look at wedding dresses? I think I should. I don't know if I should buy or rent.

No, im not gonna go looking, it will make the LIW worse. but i know i will buy.

Why Rent your dress? Also im sorry about your period....

Didn't you say you would go there just for the champagne? Lol.

Maybe it is only common to rent for chinese ppl. I don't know. It all depends on the budget. Sometimes renting and buying are almost the same price, then of course I rather buy. I really should start looking soon. I don't even know what works for my body. I am very picky. I am scared I will never find a dress ii like. you know, for Chinese ppl, the groom can look at the dress before the wedding day.

How much do you want to spend on your dress? I really hope you will be engaged by the end of this year. We need to plan together.

LoL....thats true, i do want some champagne....lol, but its bad luck to try on a gown before he proposes, or someone proposes.

O, i understand renting now for you. If its the same price, buy it. Might be nice to pass down to your daughter. I understand being picky too, im very picky.I went looking, didnt try on, and it was hard for me to find something i really like, so i understand the pickyness, it bothers C too.

Im hoping im engaged by the end of the year too. I so want to plan with you too. I keep hoping he proposes like soon  .

I dont know what my budget will be because i want 2 dresses, a wedding gown and than a reception dress. The reception will be short and a little sassy since ill be married. :D

I will have a wedding dress, a Chinese traditional wedding gown, Chinese traditional gown and a normal gown. Do you understand why i have to rent now? Lol we will see what happened. It seems like we will have a very small reception in Canada, like less than 50 ppl. Then, we will go back to hk a month or two later for a big reception of 100 ppl.

There is a wedding show in oct. I really want to go. I want to enter their grand prize. Admission is $20 each. I really need to convince my FI to go with me. You only get one chance to go to a wedding show. I HAVE TO GO. I think the bridezilla side of me is slowly coming out. Uh oh.

O wow, now i understand why you have to rent. I would Rent most too and than buy one.

LoL...i wanted to go, but i think ill try and make the next wedding show here. It was only 10 Bucks each for 2 days. 20 Bucks isnt too bad....you should so go, tell him he HAS to go since its " OUR" Wedding :D

Lol. It's all about "US" right? Lol. Actually it's my dad's wedding too. Lol. Anyways, that's the plan to have so many dresses. Who knows if I will have that many. Depends on the price. I suddenly have an idea. My FI and I are going back to hk in march or so to meet my family there. It might be good to find my gowns there. It is a lot cheaper to buy or custom make it there. However, I am kinda worried that if I can't find anything i like there, it might be too late to find anything here when we are back in like April. I guess i should look now. I should find a wedding dress first. Evening gowns can wait till I am in hk. Hmm... this is getting annoying. Oh well... Things will work out on its own. I can't be all stressed out already. :errrr:

I should sleep now, I am going to the rose garden tomorrow with my parents to check the place out. Possible venue #1, here I come!!! I am so excited. I will practice walking down the alter with my dad to see if I can imagine myself getting married there. Tell you what i think tomorrow. I will post pictures too. Don't stay up too late. You need energy for school and all those papers you need to write.

Night Bg...sleep well and have fun.

beezygal your a Canadian too! Where is this Bridal show? I went to the big one in Toronto last year with a group of friends (one was getting married) and my SO came along, he actually liked it too! A few things he enjoyed were sampling the amazing cakes, checking out party busses and limos, for some reason there was like a 100" flat screen that caught his eye and he ended up talking with that guy for a while and they had a lingerie show with models  If you can't convince your FI to go with you, try to get some friends together, they're a real fun time, and you'll get a lot of free swag!

Sorry to have been missing. I've been home all week with the flu. Poor FI got it too. Between us and Millie (still having digestive problems due to the parasite) it's been pretty.... interesting around here.

Anyway....
I'm trying to get the house ready and meal prepared for Yom Kippur (meal before sundown and to break the fast).

I'll catch up with everyone Monday. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Glitz: the bridal show is in Vancouver. I will let my FI know about sampling the cakes and the models. So cool, you're a Canadian too!!! You from Toronto then?

Too: hope you and your FI will feel better soon. Maybe you guys got it from me.

I'm going to check out the first venue for our garden ceremony now. I will update when I'm back.

We went to the two possible venues. I might have found a place for my outdoor garden ceremony. I don't just like the first one. I LOVE IT. It is PERFECT! I practiced walking down the alter with my dad. I can TOTALLY imagine myself getting married that. I love how big and quiet it is. I will show my FI tonight. I took a video of the place. Maybe we can go together on Sunday. Even though this is 30 mins ago. The traffic is pretty good because it's all highway. Take a look:

The second venue has 8 gardens. However, all of them are very very small. The size of those 8 gardens combined is like the size of the rose garden in the picture below. No way you will suit ANY chairs in any of those gardens. The whole garden looks very old. I went to the Rose Garden. It is right outside the public washroom.... hmm.. No thanks!

Wow BG, I've been gone all day and just wanted to drop in to say hi, but I was blown away by your picture. That garden is stunning, I'm so glad you found such an amazing venue!!!

Have a good Friday night everyone!

o wow BG, that looks so nice. I actually like this one better than the one you orignally picked. Hopefuly your FI will love this location and the price is reasonable.

So real quick, ive dropped 12 lbs in 2 weeks....i think its the magic chili.

wow 2 weeks 12 lbs... that doesn't sound too healthy. Be careful Jessie. What is magic chili?
