The LIW Small Talk Thread

It took maybe 20-30min to make. Not too bad.

o, thats not bad at all....hmmmmm, sound so good

Ladies.... it's NEVER too early to have dessert...

I present to you ladies... Petite Cheesecake with Strawberry sauce and chocolate drizzle...

ENJOY!

OMG BG- those look so yummy, OMG, can you please send me some..please...i sick :saint: :((

Thanks. Are you sick Jessie? Cold? Take care!

I'm drooling over here, that looks amazing! Great presentation and I'm sure it's delicious too. :lickout:

Today we took our little rat dogs to a park that had a creek and reservoir, and surprisingly they both went in the water. The older one grew up around water but she hasn't been in years, so I was surprised when she walked right in. The little guy can't swim so he only went in a little, but it was unbelievably cute. They had so much fun, they're going to be sleeping for hours...

Feel better Jessie!!

Thanks ladies. I wish you guys can try some. I hope my FI will like it. It tastes pretty good. The texture is kinda soft. Maybe it's supposed to be soft. I really like the presentation too. It's simple and nice.

btw, I tried the bare mineral makeup yesterday. I am pretty amazed by it. It actually gives a lot of coverage. It covers all those little pimple scars. I'm kinda surprised that a "powder" foundation can give such a full coverage yet not cakey looking. It is very natural. I'm very impressed.

Cali: did you watch Grey's anatomy yesterday night? I'm looking forward to the next episode already.

Thanks Cali, Thanks Bg, im home from school finally...seemed like today wasnt gonna end.

Bg- im sure your FI will love em, if they look as good as they taste you wont have many leftovers

That's awesome about the bare minerals BG. I wonder why it looked so bad on me... I'm so inept at putting on makeup, that's one thing I'm worried about with eloping. I have to trust random hotel lady, but I'm sure she'll be better than me.

I did watch grey's anatomy, but I didn't really like the episode. I don't like the whole christina-owen relationship (just cuz I don't like owen) and I just feel like the plot lines are running thin. It was such a disappointment, I just don't know how they're going to make the show good again. My commitment may be wavering.

Anyone watch How I Met Your Mother? If you haven't, that's a funny show.

I havent watched Either, i used to be a huge Grey's fan, but not so much anymore.

I was watching" Say Yes to the Dress" Plus sized girls.....goodness...i dont mean to be mean, but it makes me what to diet more so when i do get married, the dress will look stunning.

omg Jessie, I'm watching that show right now and I just said something horrible about it to FI. All I'll say here is that those girls have a lot of self-confidence to go on tv and try those dresses on. Eeeeek!

HeHe...cali....were on the same wave legnth, and it does take a lot os self-conifidence, but than you also expose yourself for people to talk about you. I would know, being in Films and commercials means people talk about you. I dont think i would ever go on SYTTD, because my dress is special to me and i dont want to share it with the whole world.

Actually, I like Owen and Cristina. I like cristina's character more. Anyways, I will watch how i met your mother. Hee hee

I think people go on that say yes to the dress is because they get the dress for a discount or for free. I am sure they will get something at the end. I don't have the channel that shows it. I watched some clips online.

My FI loves the dessert. He is now watching the national geographic channel about a town with lots of twins with blue eyes and blonde hair. Some kinda nazi mystery. I am on my iPad, because I am not really interested.

I was wondering how the treats were. They looked so good.....lol, thats funny about the nazi town, that might interest me, but not for long. Im sitting her sniffing stupid runny nose, means im staying home tonight, no reason to get C sick ;( , i miss him so much though. So i reading up on some wedding Myths, and some of them are so stupid/insane i cant believe they are real.

Wedding myths huh? I should google some. That sounds interesting. I am sorry that you are sick. Drink vitamin c and get lots of sleep. I am going to a steakhouse with my FI and his friends tomorrow. He said I can show off my ring. I don't think guys care that much about ring. Oh well. This will be the first time wearing my ring and hanging out with friends. I love that steakhouse. We went there a few years ago for our anniversary. It's a fancy restaurant. They have a porterhouse steak that is so huge you need two ppl to share it. My FI still owes me my birthday dinner. He can paid for my dinner tomorrow. I don't mind AT ALL.

Btw... My FI wants to go look at wedding dresses with me. I actually want to bring him along too. I would love to have his opinion. I want him to love my dress too. I know it is kinda a superstitious about the groom not supposed to see the dress before the wedding? Hmmm...

Hey gals!

BG, you inspired me to bake something. I'm not feeling too great today, so I'm making a banana walnut bread right now. FI doesn't eat carbs, but I'm going to make him try it since banana bread used to be his favorite. I'll let you guys know how it comes out.

I agree that the only reason anyone goes on SYTTD is for the discount. But no way would I ever go on it, I'm far too private for that. Plus you know they edit it to make you look a certain way, so you reaaaaally have to want a discount imo.
Oh, and about FI dress shopping with you - I'm having my FI go with me. I actually asked him last night if he was excited to go and he just rolled his eyes and said oh yeah. Then he asked me my budget and I just avoided the question, haha. I'm just going to get what I like the most, I don't want to have to settle.

So this morning we went out to breakfast and were sitting outside, so I started playing with my ring. OMG, my band has SOOOOO many scratches on it - some of them really deep. I don't know what I did, but apparently I'm super abusive. FI said platinum so really soft so it's going to happen. I'm surprised he didn't care. When I go visit Leon in NY in Dec., I'm going to ask him to polish it. I read that if you polish your platinum band once a year, that's good for it and all the scratches go away. We'll see, some are bad.

What are you going to do all day since you don't feel good either Jessie? You should bake something too. :)

I came across a wedding gown website. They do private viewing. They seem to have LOTS of dresses. Some are not that expensive, like $400ish. I was just talking about who I'll bring with me. Then, my FI was like "I'll go with you." He totally suggested that. I'm glad. I trust his opinion. However, I just didn't want people at the store to think it's weird. I'm sure it's ok. Since we're paying for the wedding together, this is one of the item we will be buying "together". I want him to be ok with the dress. It's like going e-ring shopping together. At first, I thought it might be weird, but.. nope! It was fun! I'm actually excited to try on dresses with my FI. I want to see his reaction.

About your ring. Platinum seems to show more scratches than white gold. Don't worry about it. I heard that they can be polished no problem. Just stop looking at the ring. I should be telling myself that too. Remember I dropped my ring into the sink before and the prongs are KINDA dented? Well, after I sent my ring to Tacori for resizing, they polished and refurished the ring. It's like brand now. No dents, no scratches. I have been wearing it for a week now. I am being VERY careful with it.

Aww you two will have so much fun shopping, especially since he suggested it and wants to go. My FI hates shopping and I'm sure after 3 dresses, he'll start complaining that he's bored and ready to go. I also don't think he likes any wedding dresses, so it's sure to be a blast. :P When do you think you're going to visit that store? It sounds like a great option!

Thanks for the reassurance about the ring! The scratches are pretty bad though, like if I run my nail along the band it gets caught in the deep grooves. Hopefully it can be polished up, but I really need to start being a little more careful.

Are you getting used to wearing your ring all the time?

So the banana bread didn't come out perfectly. I had to whip it by hand since I don't have a mixer and I think that affected it. It actually sank rather than rising, but the taste isn't too bad. It's also a little crispy on the outside, but at least it's edible. I've baked many things that had to be spit out, so at least I don't have to throw it out.

So funny, we were on my ipad one night. I was showing him some wedding dresses that I like. He's like, I like the one at the bottom. I looked at it... and... :knockout: :o   OMG It's SOOOOOOOO not me. Too plain. I'll see if I can find those pictures again. I'll show you what HE likes. I know what I want. I want A-line, strapless, and with beads. What about you, cali?

Don't look at the ring. I was telling a good friend about the 18k engraving inside my ring. He said.. "stop looking at it... the more you look at it, the worse you think it is." I SO agree with that. Maybe it's not that bad, but if you keep on looking at it, you'll probably be more upset. Cali! STOP LOOKING! I'm 1000% sure you can have it polish. Calm down.

I'm getting used to my ring. I think it's perfect. It has been so sunny and warm here. The ring still fits perfectly. Not snug, but JUST right. My finger is the most swollen in the morning. I can still put my ring on with a little force but not painful kinda force, which is good. Sometimes when it's cold, I could feel it moving up and down my fingers more, but not really spinning. Maybe in the winter time, it will spin. We'll see. I'm not too worried about that.

The parents of my students are like ... YOU GOT A RING and held my fingers close to them to look at it. They are all so excited for me. They kept on saying how sparkly and bright the diamond is. One mom asked if it's a D color.

I'm actually not too obsessed with the scratches, I'm just hopeful that they'll get all polished up. I'm done looking, promise!

Sounds like your ring is perfect. I have a question about spinning - does that mean that the ring flips all the way over, as in the diamond starts facing your palm? My ring moves a little, like the diamond will move so that it's almost facing my pinky. Is that technically spinning? Just curious what it means.

Oh BG, I love a-line dresses. If I were having a traditional wedding, I would definitely get one in that style. As it is, I'm thinking a mermaid style, lace dress with a sweetheart neckline will look good for a beach wedding. I've never tried any dresses on so who knows what will look good, but that's where I'm going to start. Do post what your FI likes - I'm sure my FI would pick something just as undesirable.

What color is your ring? I don't get how all these people on PS are like, I can see warmth in a G blah blah blah. I have an H and it is really friggin bright white. I have some E earrings and while there is a color difference, I wouldn't call it "warmth," just different. Maybe I'm color insensitive, haha, but I would never be able to tell if something wasn't a DEF unless it were a J or lower.

I will make an appointment at this place soon. The pricing is pretty cheap. I am excited to go check some dresses out.

I want something very fitting around my wrist. I kinda want it to be a little bit puffy at the bottom, but not too puffy.

I think spinning means moving around like the diamond facing the pinky or your 3rd finger. However, for me, it's more like going in and out, like closer to the knuckle. Maybe in the winter time, my ring will spin from side to side. It does KINDA move to my pinky/3rd finger SOMETIMES. It's just moved slightly. The diamond is not touching my other fingers.

My ering is G. Maybe the cut is ideal, that's why we don't see warmth in our diamonds? I think some people are more colour sensitive than other. For me and my FI, we are CLARITY sensitive. That's why we had to go from the SI range to a VS2.

I agree, I think the ideal cut is what makes the difference. In most lights, I see a lot of contrast cuz of the arrows, so it's not like a flat white disk where you can pick up a lot of color. I think I will get a "warm" cushion one day though, just to have something a little different.

That's interesting about the spinning. It always sounded so negative on here, but I couldn't imagine having my ring any tighter. If I push at the diamond, it doesn't move at all. I think it just moves throughout the day as I do different stuff. All the sizing stuff is funny since it's impossible to have a ring that always fits perfectly, which is really weird for such an expensive purshase if you think about it...

Of the dresses you posted, my favorite was the last one. The first one (that your FI liked) looks like a cheap prom dress honestly. I'm not too big of a fan of the second one you posted - it make me think of Belle from Beauty and the Beast. The last one is something that I would consider wearing for my wedding, so that's probably why I like it the most. Post more, I love looking!

I'm heading out to a bar for some football watching. I'll ttyl!

My ring fits EXACTLY like yours. When I push at the diamond slightly, it doesn't really move. I think the "spinning" means when it spins without pushing the ring, like it just slides to the side when you're moving your hand naturally (not abusively). I'm like you, I can't imagine my ring to be any tighter than this. (actually I can imagine, since my ring was too tight before) PAINFUL nightmare. However, I think if my ring is bigger by 1/4 size different, my ring will definitely spin even in the summer time. Plus, my FI will have a heart attack. My ring fits me perfectly now. We'll see when winter comes. My dad was like... "the ring is so expensive, and you guys can't even get the size correct?" Well, it's hard to say. My Tacori is not comfort fit. I don't know what kinda fit it is... maybe knife fit.

cheap prom dress. That's so funny. I should tell him that. The other time, I bookmarked some sites for him to look at. I'm like "what do you think? I think I like the first one more." He said.. "they're all the same to me."

Pretty!

I especially like the last one on this list -- elegent and flowy but not too flowy, fitted but not clingy.

Have you tried any of these on?

So...

Change of wedding plans...

FI and I were talking this weekend and we really can't afford even a basic wedding (like we cook and serve dessert ourselves in my grandparents' backyard) and neither of us is willing to give up the community part (wedding ceremony with friends and family). So after much discussing and thinking and crying and trying to make the most (grandparents backyard, potluck, cheesy-standard ketubah, etc) of what little we can manage on the current schedule --- plus trying to find a new date (conflict of scheduling within our close group of friends and they had the date first).

Anyway.....
I came up with a really creative, wonderful plan that we both REALLY like -- just have to call the rabbi tomorrow (since he's not available on Mondays except emergency) and see if he's okay with it.

What we'd do is do the plate breaking/agreement part that is Jewish tradition (been lumped into the main ceremony but traditionally was done a year or so ahead of wedding) and sign a marriage license in a quiet little ceremony (maybe at a cute B&B) with just us and 6 others. (people would know about the plate breaking but not the license -- don't want anyone to feel left out)
Then in early summer 2012 do the big community wedding ceremony with chuppah.

I REALLY hope this is okay with the rabbi. B loves this idea too.

Ohhhh!!!!! and if it is okay with the rabbi we would be doing the first part like.... soon (2-3 months!).

We got my rings cleaned/inspected yesterday and while we were there.... Tried on wedding bands!!! (FI would start wearing his after the plate breaking). I want to go to a couple of more places today and try on more!

And I'll need a dress for this one too! Nothing too wedding -- maybe not even white.
Would it be too strange to wear my LBD that I got to wear when he proposed? Maybe with a pinkish/purplish cashmere wrap?

Gah!!!!
I'm trying to not get too excited until the rabbi says it's okay but.... Well.... I'm excited!

Too: I'm going to CROSS MY FINGERS FOR YOU all day today. DUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does that mean we will not have the same wedding date?

We were "supposed" to book the chinese restaurant for our banquet yesterday. My FI decided to look at other options first. He is still interested in having a western banquet. I am 100000% sure we'll end up going to that chinese restaurant. He knows it too. I just called for one restaurant this morning. I had a mild heartattack listening to the extra fees we need to pay. Rental fee: $2100. Beverages (alcoholic/non-alco): min $15,000 or $100/person. On top of that, food around $50/person. There are other fees too. I can go on and on forever. OMG!

My weekend was pretty good. On Saturday, my FI and I went out for dinner with his friends. We met one of his friend's new gf. She's very nice to talk to. I'm surprised the guys are so interested in my ring and the proposal. They kept on looking at my ring throughout the night. They are pretty impressed. As much as I love everyone's reaction to my ring, they are making me feel comfortable for wearing such a big and sparkly ring. I don't like showing off, even though I would like to show it without being a bitch. You know what i mean? I guess I'm not used to having all the attention. Yesterday night, we went to watch The social network with one of my FI's friends. The movie is pretty good!

How are your weekends ladies?

Keep looking around. Not all places charge fees like that. (but from what I've seen... most do).

I know what you mean about your ring -- don't want to be a "show-off" but it is wonderful when people notice. Do you intentionally stand in the areas with the best lighting when you go out to maximize sparkliness?

Your weekend sounds nice.

Mine was.... strange (as you might have guessed from my first post today)....
Group dinner on Friday night at a couple's home. Saturday relax & wedding talk. Sunday was gunsmith, wedding talk, ring cleaning, trying on sparkly stuff.

Here's a good one....
When the invite went out for dinner, I wasn't exactly sure who was hosting (I'm awful at names) so when we ran into another woman from the group I asked her if I was thinking of the right woman -- "Is Alyssa the nice woman with the GORGEOUS ideal cut diamond that you can see sparkling from across the room?" 8)

BG -- not the same date ;(

Another couple's daughter has her bat mitzvah on 8/20/2011 and they decided to do her party on 8/21/11 evening (they were originally doing it on 8/20 so we would have been fine but needed to move it). So most of our group will be at her party (since they've got kids) as will the rabbi....

I wanted my FI to try out some wb yesterday. He didn't feel like it yesterday.

Yes! I want people to notice, but feel uncomfortable too. It was pretty dim/dark at the restaurant on Saturday night. My ring sparkles like CRAZY. I secretly showed my FI how sparkly it is under the table. A friend next to me saw my ring when I was eating the bread. Then, he's like "IS THAT THE RING?" Then everyone at the table looked and hold my hands for a closer look. The other day, while I was waiting for my student, I was standing in a place with lots of sunlight. I kept on staying next to the window because my ring looks soooooooo sparkly. My ring is always sparkly in the restaurant's washroom. :wink2:

when is your wedding date now?

btw, I haven't tried on those dresses I posted here. However, I did go try on wedding gowns a few weeks ago. I'll probably do it soon. I'm taking my FI with me. The weird thing is... I don't really want to look for a wedding dress. I like trying on wedding gowns. However, I'm just not really into going out and looking at different stores. I feel like I will not find something I like for the price I'm willing to pay, which is not that much. My FI was like "then you better start looking soon." My price range is $500... ideally $400 max. That's why I need to go to places with cheap wedding dress, or else it will be very embarrassing when they asked me my price range. I just don't think it's necessarily to spend so much money on a dress that I'll wear it for a few hours.
