The LIW Small Talk Thread

O Too- it sounds like you had a good weekend. It sounds like it was fun, i dont eat fish, but it sounds like fun. Also, 60 people, omg, i would go crazy with cleaning. I need pictures of that new sparkly you got!! LoL...i cant wait to see it. It was very nice of B to get you a nice sparkly, sometimes late birthday gifts are the best  . Also, you right about your ring, it is motivation so you dont have to part with that ring. Im back on my diet, i had a littl too much to eat during the weekend, but i too, didnt gain a pound. I cant wait to see your new ring.

This weekend, was good, so up parts, and down. We went out to a casino on Friday night for old school jams and dancing. It was too hot and i felt like my makeup was melting off, so we went and sat in a lounge and talked. Saturday C went and got his hair done. He had a hair treatment(Yes, i know so girly), i went with him, but should have stayed home, it was a 3 hour trip to the salon. He got the keratin hair treatment and than a good cut( He needed it). The hairdresser was a gay male but he had lots of stories and lots of questions, so it wasnt too bad. He was good enterainment when it came time to cutting C's hair, but he did a dang good job. He also told me, i color C hair good, and should look into styling. LoL....That night C wanted to show off his hair   , so we went to this new bar downtown here called Coin in. Its like a aracde merged with a light bar, its pretty cool. We spent a few bucks there playing video games like kids.
Sunday we were going to BBQ, but it started storming here, so it was changed to sub sandwiches for his friend and his wife, who ate most of the food, depsite having the lapband surgery. I do have a vent about them. So the wife has some health issues, which is understandable, but when she came over, she didnt say hello. She came in, and started eating. She PLOPPED on our couch( took up most of the space), got tired, started acting like a dang child, and than laid down on our couch!! Now, i cn understand if she didnt feel well, but her laying on the couch made me mad, because i offerred her a guest room MULTIPLE times, and when she fell asleep she was laying on our pillows. I dont even lay on our pillows. THATS so dang rude, its like GROW UP and be an ADULT. She acts like a child all the time, and does this stupid baby talk and it makes me so angry. C was so upset, he turned the music up, and didnt even care. She does crap like this all the time, granted, sleeping on our couch was a first, but being anti-social and rude when she comes over is the norm. When it was time for them to go,s he got off the couch, went to the bathroom, grabbed her purse and left. She didnt tell me goodnight or thank you, NOT that she ever does, and to top it off, she didnt clean up her plate, or even the couch. Ggggrrrrr, i am still so angry, that i feel like calling her up and telling her, she is rude! She never comments or says thank you, or nice set up, or anything.
Monday we went to the Pinball Museum and played a few bucks like we were kids again and had lunch. Monday was a nice easy fun day.
oOOOOO, heres a picture of the cupcakes i made for C's work.

Sorry heres the cupcakes.

Random 018.JPG

Great looking cupcakes! I bet C's co-workers just love having you around!

Your friends sound just awful. Why do you keep having them over if they keep acting this way? That behavior is just outrageous and RUDE.
We had dinner with a family one night after our electricity had been out for 4-5 DAYS (we were out for a full 8 days!) -- they had electricity back up at their home after just a couple of days so invited us for a hot meal (that I didn't have to cook on the barbeque outside in the freezing temperature) in a warm house. We were both suffering from hypothermia (in fact we'd started dropping below the point where they say to check into a hospital), exhausted, and not thinking too clearly. I remember that I barely ate anything (I was feeling sick) and probably wasn't great at conversation..... I NEVER stretched out on their couch and before we left (AFTER I had helped clear the table!), I hugged the woman and thanked her and her husband REPEATEDLY.
There is NO EXCUSE for your friend to act that way. I could overlook the occasional incident (like if she had a kid throw up and needed to get them home before dishes were cleaned up or if she were truly sick or whatever), but this sounds like an on-going issue.

At least the rest of your weekend sounds pretty great. That is funny about C's hair -- three HOURS to get to a hair treatment?

My mom hasn't sent me the good picture of my rings yet. If she doesn't send it today, I'll take a picture myself.

Thanks too, I was fun doing those cupcakes. I cant even imagine having no electricity and freezing. I would have been spoiled and told C we have to go to a hotel or something. I am so sorry hon, and you are so strong. They are so rude, and my mom keeps saying why do i keep having them over, but heres the thing. This is C's best friend( NOT the wife), and if he leaves her at home, she will cry and whien and make the friends world a living hell. She is a slob, and doesnt clean anything and is lazy. I deal with her, so C can have his friend over, but im reaching my breaking point. C knows this, and im hoping he says something to his friend about his wifes actions, because if i do, it wont be nice. The thing that sucks is, they rent the house from C, and C is getting tired of them. But we cant do anything, because they rent the house, and kicking them out or telling them to take a hike will ruin the friendship. They dont keep the house clean at all, and C is a very clean person. Its a mess, and i feel like pulling my hair out when it comes to them.

I cant wait to see pictures of your RHR when you get a chance.

I cant wait it took C 3 hours for his hair......lol. Im just happy its healthy now, and he wont need another cut for a few weeks( 6-8)

We didn't seriously think that an apartment RIGHT next to a major company (like we could look out our living room window and see across the street into one of the buildings) would have the power out for that long after a storm. After a couple of days, I called around to hotels but there weren't really any rooms left and the one I was able to find wouldn't let us bring our 3 cats so they would have been left alone in the cold. After they had us over for dinner, we did drive over 2 hours to get to a Lowe's that had ONE propane heater left that was safe for indoor use (catalytic converter is needed or you can die). That helped a lot for the last days of the outage.

Eh. I'm mixed.

The 8 days were AWFUL (it has been 4 years or so and it is still fresh in memory!) -- imagine temperatures so cold you could almost freeze water INSIDE with nothing more than a charcoal grill to cook on (I actually managed to boil water to make fresh pasta and even served it with a sauce :praise: ). The worst part was when neither of us could get warm. Our bodies were just cold to touch so no matter how many blankets we snuggled under together we just couldn't get warm. We started driving around with the oldest cat in the car just so she could sit in my lap with the heater on. After a couple of days, we hauled out some wooden frames and fabric to form a sort of wind-break for the patio so it wasn't as cold for cooking and it also helped keep the apartment a bit less cold  . When both of our temperatures REALLY dropped, neither of us were thinking clearly enough to realize how bad off we were (as in should have been in hospital) and got super lucky that I made some comment that clicked in B's mind and we drove around until we found a heater (picked it up just minuted before the store closed) because looking back now, I don't know if either of us would have woken up if we'd gone to bed cold again that night.

The good part:
We now have two of the heaters that are safe to use indoors plus several large propane tanks to run them for several weeks or more.
We've also gotten a little propane grill and a little propane burner (safe for indoors) so there is something other than charcoal to cook with. (charcoal got hard to find)
Got a shelf full of candles, matches, batteries, etc. plus a few more lanterns
Lots of frozen water bottles and blue-ice to keep food cold.
I've gotten in the habit of doing a load of laundry every day instead of one laundry day per week. (power went out the night before laundry day so we had almost no clean clothes)

So..... Yeah.... it sucked and easily could have killed us, but we are a lot more prepared now so when there is another big storm & power outage (or earthquake, etc) we won't be scrambling trying to find basic supplies.

Hmmmm, very true, so you are prepared if yoju have to bug in if SHTF and theres an emergency

Any plans for the weekend?

No, not really, C and i are going to stay home, and probably veg out. He cant drink because of his tummy and he did last weekend, so no more liquor for him. Also, no money, we have to save for our trip, so homecooking and cheap movies are whats on our agenda. How about you

Your weekend sounds perfect! Homecooking and movies at home are so much fun.

Not quite sure about Friday yet. There is a bluegrass concert at a park near us (Alison Krauss!) that I heard about a couple of days ago. The tickets are pretty cheap and the weather looks like it will be okay so we might go to that. B likes bluegrass (I like Alison Krauss) and it would be nice to go do something fun. The problem is that it is tomorrow evening so it would interfere with Shabbat dinner (which we don't do lightly). We're still talking trying to decide if we can shift dinner a bit and make it work..... so.... we'll see.

Saturday we have to drive to Arlington for the Arlington Air Show. We had planned on skipping it this year, but a guy recently moved to the area and asked B if we'd be there. He owns the same type of airplane we do but has already restored it enough to be flying. There are VERY few (only 78 ever made) of these airplanes in existence and even fewer actually flying, so we are thrilled to have this guy in the area. So we'll spend some (all?) of Saturday wandering around a bunch of airplanes and watching the aerobatics show.

Sunday is garden and house stuff.

We'll hopefully be able to fit a couple of movies (just DVDs at home) to relax & snuggle on the couch.

O wow, your weekend sounds full and fun. C would love the planes thing, since he worked on them for 20 years. I hope your weather works out, ours has been kind of wacky. Remeber to tae some time to relax and rest. Hehe, thats the point of the weekend.

Relax and rest is good.

Soooo...excited. Next week i go to pick up my bleaching trays and bleach from the Dentist. I got it for a good price.

Just as well we decided to wait and order concert tickets this morning if the weather was okay -- it is cloudy, cool, a bit of rain (concert is outside in a park), and the little biting mosquito-like bugs are out pretty bad. We're going to skip the concert this time through and go to a different one later when the weather is better (or it is indoors!).

Have a great weekend :wavey:

Great weekend!

We didn't go to the concert, but that was fine.

The fly-in was lots of fun. We spent hours standing out with the couple who has the same airplane as us and I actually got to sit in it! I've never sat in this particular airplane because I've only ever seen it in parts except in pictures. Nice people. Nice airplane.
Very few of these (I think the number is about 20) are actually flying anywhere in the world (not a huge shock since only 78 were ever made) and now serial number 5 is up and flying about 20 minutes from us. It'll be so much fun when we have ours (an even earlier serial number!) up and flying again!

I am, however, sunburned. We all stood out in the sun while talking (no shade where we were) and I hadn't brought sunscreen. I lost track of time but thought I was doing okay

It sounds like you had a good weekend. That would be fun. C and i didnt do anything, and didnt go anywhere. It was nice. So how are things??

Uh HUh...whats wrong??

Im okay, trying to work up some engery to workout, i got like 4 hours of sleep last night, and im a bit slow today.

Just super overwhelmed right now.

One of the big things I thought was about to wrap up just got lots more complicated and I am now calling attorney's in CA to see what we can do about the mess. So.... yeah.
Work is strange. Odd combination of boring days and busy days is normal, but the one guy's personal life is making it a not very pleasant place to be right now.
School is busy. Big stacks of homework each night (she aims for about 3 hours homework per night) plus reading from the book plus memorizing lots of things. --- Quarter is 1/2 over as of this afternoon.... Just 3 more weeks.
TMJ is painful right now.

Did you know that a sunburn can turn into little tiny blisters four days after being in the sun??? I've been keeping aloe on my burns and careful to not scratch or anything. Started to feel a bit better and then yesterday afternoon found than my chest is COVERED in little tiny blisters

Oh well.... one day at a time.

O my....im so sorry, you have so much on your plate right now. Yes i know sunburn turns to blisters, ive never had it, but ive seen it on friends. I sunburn very easily, for a black a woman, it doesnt take much sun time for me to burn. Cold Noxema works best for sunburn, try it.

It is Friday!

My blisters are mostly gone and now I'm starting to peel a little. The alow cream has really been helping.
I'm still having pretty bad pain in my jaw but it is getting better and I found that a heating pad helped relax the muscles and let me sleep (it is a microwavable thing so it only stays hot for a while so it is safe to fall asleep on as long as you don't heat it super hot)

Any plans for the weekend?

Im going to a big cake/vender conference on saturday, but other than that...no. I went shopping with my mom all day...im so tired now. Any plans this weekend?

That sounds potentially yummy! How was it?

Didn't really have any plans, just around the house catching up on sleep/cleaning/study. Have a chemistry exam today.
The weekend was pretty laid back and nice.

Sorry i have been MIA....had a bit of a busy weekend.

The Cake Camp was really good. It was mostly people selling things you can use. There was a fondant stand, and they had fondant to sell. I wish i had bought more than i did, because it was on sell for CHEAP....like 3 tubs for 20 bucks cheap. Normally one tub is 15 bucks. I got 4 tubs of it, and now need more. The fondant is extra tasty too. It was so good, its a white chocolate flavor.

Saturday Night, depsite me saying NO, C and i went out for a few drinks with his freinds(The rude ones). I had fun, but that was because i had fun with C and the people who work at the nightclub that we talk to when we go. I actually was being hit on by one of the bouncers, but didnt know it, until C pointed it out. C gets mad sometimes, because i completely brush off or ignore when people are flirting. I dont even realise im doing it.

Sunday day, i ended up nursing a hangover( I really didnt drink that much, i just have a really week tummy), and hanging around the house with him, and the doggies. We slept pretty much all day, and watched tv and joked around with each other. Than went to dinner and played bingo. We firgured it was a few bucks for an hours fun. What sucks, i was one number away from winning the big game!!!

Monday, we took our little girl dog to the vet, because she has had this bump on her tummy for a few weeks. We had took her to the vet the week before and he said try this cream, and if it doesnt go away, its mostly likely a tumor and needs surgery. Well, guess what? It didnt go away and she needed the surgery....$550.00....and she has about 7 stiches. She couldnt sleep at all on monday and slept on C's pillow near his head and cried all night. Than when he got up in the morning, she did it to me. I felt so horrible, i stayed at his house yesturday while he went to work, and watched her. She wouldnt go outside through the doggie door, so i had to take her outside to go to the bathroom. She really wouldnt drink any water, so i had to watch that, and make sure she didnt chew on the stiches.

Now i have to go to a store, and buy a big tub of fondant. Why?? C convienced me to make a cake for his job, based on a picture i drew. Now i gotta go to the store for fondant, and cake stuff. Im excited, but never because this cake will be 3 tiers.

So how was your weekend??

Poor doggie! Is the vet testing what he removed to see if it is cancerous?
Millie had a lump on her neck that the vet was concerned about. She gave us the cream and told us to use it twice a day. We also got a topical antibiotic to prevent any sort of infection. The antibiotic she said to use for a week but the other cream sometimes takes a couple of months to work. Luckily the lump went away after just a few weeks. If it hadn't, the vet wanted to remove it and then test it for cancer.

The cake thing sounds like it was fun. Sometimes the supplies are the best part of a show like that!
White chocolate fondant sounds yummy.

A 3 tier?? Wow!
What type of cake are you making? Each tier will be 2 layers?

My weekend was quiet. We needed saffron so after I picked B up on Friday we went to one of the Middle Eastern shops nearby and had this yummy vanilla-custard-filled pastry thing and Turkish coffee. :lickout:

Saturday we just relaxed around the house. Sunday I did chemistry homework and study.

We have to go see the new Harry Potter movie tomorrow -- B's team at work has rented the theater for the day and is showing a few different movies. We decided on HP since neither of us were really interested in the others.

Probably going to have dinner down by the theater after the movie. Not sure yet though. We might just go home and have sandwiches. I have been really wanting to go to The Cheesecake Factory though (I've never been!) so we might do that.... I suppose we should figure that out tonight so I can make reservations if we're going. (apparently it gets super busy with Looong waits when the movies get out)

Oh.... and in preparation for tomorrow, we have to go home and watch the 1st part since we haven't seen it yet :nono:

I suppose it could be worse!

Oooooh!!! ---

And there has been some movement on the wedding planning side of things!

So budget has been a HUuuuuge issue. Part of that is because B is terrified of the actual budget number. Anyway... long story about weddings/airplanes/his-fears/my-fears..... but we're going to set aside $2 in a savings account for the wedding for every $1 spent on airplane or gun stuff. This might be a great way to get both done sooner! (Me -- "Geeee.... Have you seen this _____ for the airplane.... we could order one in a couple of months if you want!")

We're also having 2nd thoughts about the winery. It is a bit of a drive for people and would almost be a mandatory overnight stay. One thing we're thinking about is getting a charter bus to take people to/from the wedding if they don't want to stay overnight.
Another thing we're looking at is some sort of boat thing (being the Seattle area, there are boats that do events) that would cruise around Seattle (preferably up through the San Juan Islands) so it would be a short drive for everyone.

O my, you have lots to report. ...LoL...

Yes, the doc is testing the tumor to see if its cancerous, we will find out next week. *sigh* i hate the wait of that, because if thats the case, there might need to be more removed( the surrounding areas).

I just spent 100 bucks in supplies. i needed a new cake pan( well thats my agreement) and had a coupon and got a 4 tier cake pan set for 20 bucks!I didnt know fondant came in different flavors so when you get married and order your cake, ask what flavor fondant they have, and see if you can taste it. LoL....at this point in time, i can make my own wedding cake. LoL....

The bottom layer and top layer will be a chocolate cake with vanilla filing, and the middle will be a vanilla cake with strawberry filing. Its going to be a vegas/casino game theme, since that is C's job.

O, that sounds like so much fun about B's job renting out the theatre. That is soo cool, i would have picked HP too, i havent seen the lastest one, and want to. I might go next week, when i get some time. DONT spoil it for me...lol.

Im so happy you two have maybe come to a comprise on the weddings and wedding bugdet. If you do, the savings idea, you will have more than enough in a year to put money towards a wedding, and be able to find something a little more accomdating for your guest. Maybe renting a boat is a good idea, and the plus would be, everyone is there at one time, and most ships ( companies) also do catering. Plus it would make for lovely pictures.
