Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

I can relate. Hopefully we'll be pregnant soon so we really belong in this thread.

Can you let me know how the chewable prenatal vitamins are? I'm just getting used to taking the huge prenatal (after a few months of taking them). Some days it's still a pain. I've never been good at swallowing pills. The chewables probably don't taste that great but I might try them if these prenatals become too hard to take.

I'm going to have the prescription filled tonight, so I'll let you know! I just googled them (they're called Natachew), and apparently they taste like berries, so they can't be too bad, right?
12.gif

ETA: Just found another review that said they taste like Flinstone vitamins! Fingers crossed that they actually do!

Snlee and Ebree, you two are so cute. Don''t worry about feeling weird. I personally love hearing from everyone, particularly those on TTCing. I''ll be rooting for you guys!

TGal: is your amnio and sonogram on the same day? Mine are scheduled for different days, which is okay by me since I''ll get to see the baby twice
36.gif

It''d be interesting to see how much the baby will grown in a matter of a week.

I decided to do them them the same day. I''m still sitting on the fence. I think it will go something like this...

Doc: So we are doing your amnio today?
Me: Yes.
(Doc brings out big 7 inch needle)
Me? Oh f*$%!!! You''re not sticking that JAVELIN in me!
(Meanwhile you hear big thud as TGuy hits the floor unconscious)

Thanks lili! I've had a baby fever since getting married over a year ago. We've tried to wait awhile so we can enjoy some husband and wife time and we're both youngish. Getting pregnant is almost all I can think about lately now that it's time to TTC. Normal? I think my husband and I are ready. Scary and exciting!

That''s so funny. I bet you my thud will be louder than yours.
DH is such a baby when it comes to needles.

snlee and ebree, you gals are more than welcome to post and ask questions here (at that goes to all the other lurkers)

I used a chewable prenatal with my first, it tasted like orange flintstone''s. I ended up switching though b/c it only had like 4 things in in, iron, folic acid and a couple of other things and I wanted a more complete vitamin. my sister did the chewable at first too (she''s 9 weeks preggo with her first) and it made her super constipated so she switched to the rainbow brand they sell at Wild Oats and hasn''t had any problems. They should really work great for those who don''t/can''t swallow pills. those giant prenatal''s are the hardest things for me to swallow too.

oshinbreez, I really do appreciate and respect your opinion too and glad you felt comfortable enough to share it. But, like Tgal said, we try to keep this thread supportive and respect each others decisions without judgement here because we want folks to feel comfortable sharing no matter what their opinions/beliefs are.

I''m excited for you snlee and Ebree. Post away, all you want. That''s why I sarted this thread in the first place. Gosh I wish I had this way back when I was pregnant, many moons ago, LOL. You guys are lucky!!!

I think it's great you ladies are so prepared for TTC. That was one of my bigger fears when I got pregnant because it was so unexpected...that I never took any prenatals and that I wouldn't have enough folic acid and spina bifida would occur and I would have been able to help prevent it and blah blah blah...

So thumbs up to you!

Lili, I am such a dork...somehow I am not afraid of childbirth/pain of contractions, but when I get my blood drawn, I STILL can't look. EVER. I must be delusional!!!

So I got an email from my friend. I'm sitting here all misty eyed and feeling for her. She was due on October 8, so obviously she's late . She's the one I may have mentioned who has not done a lot of research on pregnancy and for the most part just went with whatever happened. Knowledge freaked her out and she was grossed out easily. Despite out different personalities and approaches on this, I respect her "ignorance is bliss" philosophy and really just like her a lot (she's a new friend...about a year or so.)

Well, she's only two centimeters dilated and the baby, which had been in position, is now facing the spine. The doc says she doesn't think it will turn back. She's absolutely panicked about the whole thing...afraid that after going through labor, she's going to get a c-section anyway and it will be a long and hard process. She said she broke down after this morning's appointment and couldn't even tell her family about this. But she emailed me because I am the "birthing encyclopedia" (her words, not mine) and she thought she'd feel better telling me.

I just feel awful for her. Her friend was due two days before her and had the easiest birth ever, and has told her all about what a piece of cake it was. I know my friend was hoping for the same. I don't know if there is anything I CAN say...fear is fear I suppose. I know she will manage and the baby will come out one way or another (they may even be able to turn it around a bit?), but the poor girl is the last one I'd wish a complicated labor on.

She wants to maybe hangout after her 4 pm appointment where they are going to monitor contractions and fetal heartbeat. Hopefully I can make her feel better.
40.gif

ETA, I think I may have it the other way around in terms of the way the baby is facing...but whatever it is, it's the wrong way. (So much for the "birthing encyclopedia!")

I cannot keep up with this thread, but I always come back to it. I had no idea pregnant women now cannot eat turkey and what does TTC stand for? Congratulations, Diver. Tacori, I am sure your pregnancy will one day result in a baby, even if it seems that that day will never come :-).

Hugs to all of you,
Deb

You belong in the thread now. One cannot be pregnant forever! Do you think that after they give birth the women who have been part of all these discussions are no longer wanted here?

Big hugs to you,
Deborah (also very much not pregnant)

I cannot keep up with this thread, but I always come back to it. I had no idea pregnant women now cannot eat turkey...

Deb, we can eat turkey as long as it cooked. they (the repective *they*) suggest you avoid deli meats b/c you don't know if they have stayed at 40 degrees or below(or some # like that) and a bacteria that causes food poisening can make you sick and will pass though the placenta making the sick and cause possible birth defects. The odds are very low but still potentially dangerous so they just put it on the never consume list along with alchohol, soft cheeses, certain fish and a few other things. I actually didn't know when i was preggo with my first and ate deli sandwiches often enough thoughout that pregnancy. Now, i buy those precooked chicken's at the grocery, eat it hot for dinner and and use the leftover meat to make chicken sandwhiches. feels like a cold deli sandwich but it's ok to eat while preggo...at least until some *they* group tells me that's out too..
37.gif

tgal, i'm sorry about your friend. it just goes to show no matter how prepared you are you just can really only be prepared for the unexpected because you just have no control over what is going to happen or how. i'm glad you can be there for her though..you're a good friend.

Thanks MrsS. It''s a good thing for all of us preggies to keep in mind. :)

And *they*....lol...I hate *they*!!!!

I also want to extend the welcome to all lurkers, TTC ladies, and mommies already. Everyone''s comments are wanted! There are many topics we disagree on but we all have the right to our opinions. Parenting is such a personal thing. Kaleigh did a wonderful thing by starting this thread. I think I would have had a mental breakdown without all of your kind words and support!!! Thanks Lisa!

Ebree, I am on PrimaCare One (same as Chrono) and I know they make a chewable. Mine are gel coated so not too bad (though they are large) BUT then DO have a stool softener which is probably why I don''t have any hemis (yet anyways...)

Snlee & Ebree, how funny all you can think about is being preggo and all I can think about is NOT being preggo. Haha!!!

Tgal, if the baby is breeched (feet down) she needs a c-sec if it is facing up (but still head down) she can still have a V birth. I came out face up and all was fine. Supposely it does make back labor worse but it is not dangerous. I am TOTALLY freaking out about L&D. I have NO idea WHAT my body can do. I panic when I think about it so I can relate to your friend. I hope things go well for her!

AGBF, my brain knows that day will be here soon but still....the hormones, nerves, emotions...they are harder to convince.

Not all prenatals have stool softeners, right? I''m on prenate (whoever decided the packaging on those should be SHOT) and I think they have the softeners too. Thank goodness for them.

You''re right Tacori. I think most know here I tend to be a straight shooter and pretty damn blunt. But sorry...kids and pregnancy is an area where I think it''s extra sensitive and special. I mean, I know wedding planning is stressful, but it is my opinon that it ain''t anything compared to this child creation/bearing stuff. And it''s FACT that when you get engaged you don''t have crazy hormonal shifts (OK, you do, but not as biological as preggos do), you don''t get fat while eating totally right, your nipples don''t turn into meatballs and your ass doesn''t get so big that it could probably shield an army from a grenade attack.

This is a fantastic thread and I am pleasantly surprised that 87 pages later, with all the possible debates that could happen over this or that, that it''s been largely supportive and understanding. Even I am on my best behavior here...miracles do happen. Hehehe...

As for my friend...she knows she can do a vaginal birth. She''s just scared that because she''s being induced on top of the face up position that it will lead to more complications and a c-section. She is debating on whether to just go c-section and skip the labor at this point. I really don''t know what to tell her. She''ll figure it out for herself I suppose.

TGal, I think elective c-secs are really a personal decision. There are times when I have thought how much easier they are but then remember it is major surgery so major recovery time. I like your honesty (I feel like I am a fairly blunt person as well) and am willing to bet more people would abort an unhealthy fetus than would admit it. I learned a long time ago what you *think* you would do and what you *actually* do are NOT always the same. You just do not know unless you are in the situation (this relates to life in general).

Not all prenatals have stool softeners. Mine are kind of pricey but I am kind of a picky eater so I figured baby is worth it. Plus not that I have reached out deductable they are FREE!!!! Hehe! So exciting!!!! I feel like I should call my insurance co to see if I need to do anything special (I know they need to be known about the birth) and make sure I can drop the coverage for 2008 (no irish twins for me please!!!!)

By the way we went to see two movies this weekend (last chance for awhile maybe) "michael clayton" and "across the universive" (the beatles musical) both very good (in case anyone is planning on a movie date).

Ouch I think I am having a BH. Be back later.

prenatal & DHA...i thought someone mentioned they were taking the prenatal with DHA called expecta from target, but when i looked, i think i read that it was JUST a DHA supplement. so i just got the target prenatal. don''t think it contains DHA though... i guess a prenatal sans DHA is better than no prenatal at all?

i can''t believe i''m asking this but, how do you know if the prenatal your taking has a stool softener?

Fingers crossed mine are free (or close!); they're listed online at $70 for 90 chews. Yikes! I also found out they contain a stool softener, and I'm curious...do you think they'll cause, *a-hem*, problems for women who aren't yet pregnant?

Oh wow, I didn''t know prenatal vitamins can get that expensive. I just got the generic brand from either RiteAid or Target. $15 for a bottle of 300. I asked my doctor if there is a good brand to use and said that as long as there is 800mg of folic acid, it really doesn''t matter. Has anyone''s doctor recommended one brand over another?

800 mg? Mine just have 1 mg!

ETA: I just found that the FDA recommends .4 mg (= 400 mcg) of folic acid for pregnant women, so could your doc have meant 800 mcg, or .8mg?

400 mcg when you are TTCing.

No problem; I''m just glad I''m covered! And I''m sure the generics are perfectly fine as long as they''ve got all the stuff in ''em they need. I''d go the generic route too, for sure, if I wasn''t such a baby when it comes to swallowing pills!
40.gif

here is the info on mine.

Jcrow, it would say if it had a stool softner. Mine says it on the bottle/box.

Ebree, I don't think they would cause problems. They are natural softeners not laxs. so you should be good.
2.gif
Even with them (TMI warning) I still get backed-up. I cannot imagine what I would be like without the softeners. That is not that bad of a price for perscriptive prenatals believe it or not.

lili, this is the brand my OB recommends over all the others. I was on generic before and they said to switch back when I am BF. Like everything else, personal decision. I feel like they are better for me but others are happy with generics. Mine do seem to have more in them (DHA, EPA which says prevents premature birth, fatty acids, omega 3, fish oil....) than the generics I was taking before.

ETA: mine have 1mg of folic acid.

Hi ladies! I just wanted to pop back in to say hello and to let you all know that I''m still around. Mostly lurking because work has been hectic and I haven''t had much time online. I''m still in cycle 2 of TTC so we won''t know anything for a few more weeks. We''re taking it easy this cycle and I''m trying not to obsess. My husband is so wonderful and supportive.
5.gif
I love him so much.

Tacori: You''re sooo close! I can''t wait to see some pics of your little one and DIVER we all need more pics of Delaney!!

The owner of my dance studio may have her little guy in her arms right now! She was 3cm dialated last night and I haven''t heard anything today - I''m sure she''ll get one of the other teachers to send an email with the details. I''m so happy for her!

~Jess~

Hi Gals

just popping in cuz i am having a very busy week (working at night for a charity event and rarely on the computer right now)

Thinking of you Tacori!

Ella--your shower pics are great--you look super duper good!

I hit the 17 week mark yesterday--had my first brave stranger ask me if I was "with child'' last night at an awards dinner. I was dressed up but wearing a flowy shirt that accentuated my now visible bump. I didn''t know if I should be insulted or thrilled. It''s weird b/c that same night someone seemed utterly surprised I was pregnant at all and 4 months along....I am just not as comfortable with my body as I hoped I would be. My DH thinks I am the cutest thing alive and that makes me feel good but I am totally not convinced ;-)

My aunt bought me a Snoogle (funny hook-shaped body pillow for those who don''t have one). It has been great. I get so restless at night and this has helped.
My new, most annoying preggo symptom is the 24 hr head-cold feeling. Complete with runny-nose, sneezing, stuffiness through most of the day--it''s uncomfortable but whatever.

I haven''t felt any of the movement sensations since last week so i am thinking it may not have been the baby--just waiting patiently.
What did everyone ''feel'' as their first signs of baby? I hear all sorts of descriptions and I am curious what guys felt....

Morning!

I take LifeFitness prenatals -- comes with two bottles, one with regular prenatal vits and one with a DHA supplement. I take both pills each night and have had no stomach problems at all. Not sure if it's got a stool softener or not, but I haven't had any problems in that department, so I assume it does? (Even with being all good in that aspect though, I've still gotten TWO hemis!!!
32.gif
Yeah, I'm one sexy mama.) According to the Web, "The Life Fitness Prenatal Multivitamin & DHA contains 200mg of DHA Omega-3 in every serving and 975 mcg of folic acid" so I feel covered!

Jas, I didn't feel the babies move for sure until 22 weeks. I felt a few butterflies in my belly at 17 weeks that I thought could maybe-possibly be the babies, but it wasn't til a few weeks later that I started to feel real movement. It definitely felt different than those initial flutterings! I know they say 18-22 weeks is when you should start feeling things, but I've heard anywhere from 11 weeks (though not with first child) to 24 weeks so don't worry if you don't feel anything yet. Even with two in my belly and me being pretty thin (well, back then!), I didn't feel movement till pretty late!

Jess, good luck again! That's great that you guys are trying to relax a bit more about it this time -- I really think that will be major for you guys both mentally as well as maybe physically too. Stress never does a body good!

I tried putting on sneakers last night and realized that I couldn't reach over my belly to tie them!!
23.gif
I usually wear my Danskos or flats anyway so it's not too big an issue, but I was just shocked! I think my days of shaving my legs are over soon too -- at least it's pants weather!

ETA: TGal, I laughed when you said I'm such a healthy eater -- I'm so not!! Most days I live on carbs -- cereal or oatmeal, a sandwich, chips, granola bars, pasta. I feel so heavy!! It's a conscious effort for me to eat fruit and vegetables, which is why I was very proud of me for having that salad yesterday (and another one for lunch today) and why I was bragging about it!

AND ETA again! snlee and ebree, I think it's great that you guys are here -- good to be knowledgeable about what the future will bring for you guys! I've had so many eye-opening experiences with this pregnancy because we weren't actively TTC and I hadn't done much research on it at all!

Also, re: the amnio ... I know that Diver had a horrible experience
38.gif
but my overall amnio itself wasn't that bad -- and I had to have it done twice (one for each baby's sac)! Yes, the needle is big, but I just kept my eyes closed and didn't watch the needle or the u/s monitor. It wasn't fun but it's quick (30 seconds maybe). Just be prepared for some cramping and discomfort for the next 24 hours (I had it for two days) -- take the day off work, stay home and lay on the couch. The worst part is the wait!

Jess, good luck. Lots of baby dust your way. Remember it is only the second month so don''t get discouraged yet!

Jas, I didn''t feel the baby for SURE until 20 weeks. That is when I felt a light kick. I knew without a doubt it was my baby. Early movements for me felt like gas
3.gif
or maybe better discribed as popping popcorn in my stomach. Now they are sometimes downright painful. We were watching TV last night and I told DH to look at my belly. The baby was moving SO much it was like an alien in there. It is so strange to see bulges (usually the butt) move around under my skin. Kick here. Punch here. I told it the way out was down but obviously it wasn''t listening! Go towards the light! Haha!

You are so lucky your DH thinks you are the cutest thing ever. You missed all the drama I had earlier in my pregnancy. I love my hubby. He is a great guy but he is an idiot sometimes. It was really hard for him to see my body change. Doesn''t help that he has lost as much weight as I have gained during my pregnancy.
38.gif
The stinker!

I loved it when people asked my if I was preggo or when I was due. Take it as a compliment. Still like it (though wondering if I am preggo IS a thing of the past). I think it is interesting to hear their comments. And let''s face it, a preggo lady needs all the compliments she can get. It can be hard on the ego (like when DH pointed out a new stretch mark on me last night. How romantic!) My mom e-mails my belly pics to all her friends (excited much???) and they are so kind. One said I was so radiant (ummm...probably sweat). But still sweet....

Anyways, I am still hanging in there. 10 days to go. My doc said this is the perfect time to go into labor. If only it was up to me....
