Cushion modified brilliant vs Old miner help

@maryjane04 Yes I am happy to work with this vendor! I just feel bad because I have not really told them that I'm going to be looking elsewhere as well. But if I don't find a stone through them, I will let them know! :)

@peachflower did the jeweller come back with any other options to consider? Have you returned this stone yet? Wondering what you're thinking after looking at it for a little while now.

I just returned the stone today and I actually don't feel too sad about it because the jeweler said there are a couple more options coming in that may be contenders! I am hoping to see photos next week! Please keep your fingers crossed for me that one of them will be the one!! :D But thanks to you all, I am definitely not going to rush this decision. Want to make sure I'm 100% sure about a stone!

Im so proud of you for following your heart! We loved her, but your diamond should make your heart skip a beat every time you look at her ❤️

Definitely keep us in the loop when you hear from them on other options! If you decide you are open to other vendors, let us know. It will give me something to work on this weekend instead of what I have planned… taking my oven apart and cleaning it :lol-2:

Maybe only 95% and not 100%!

This gives you time to get an ASET scope if you want to. I ordered mine over the weekend and it arrived today. It's only $50 and might give you peace of mind on cut quality. I was a bit worried that it would be hard to use but I instantly found it super easy (way easier than a loupe) and it's been fun to go through all of my jewelry looking at the diamonds.

David Klass. He is a someone who a a lot of PS folks use for custom pieces, which I assume you would need to do if you want unplated. He's in LA, so you'd have to ship your stone to him, which some people don't like to do. But there is the thread in Show me the Bling called "show me your David Klass Bling". For some reason I can't get it to link correctly, but if you look for it, you will find. it.
He's got an IG page too. And you could always email and ask them if they have anything showing the different colors of gold that they use. I generally use
platinum for white metal, but I do have this one ring with his 14k white gold (the stone is a GIA K).

You can also ask him to invoice you for his insurance to cover the shipping. It's not cheap - but worth the peace of mind.

I definitely am open, so if anyone sees a stone that I may love please send her my way!!

Haha yes I may only be 95% sure, but I'm hoping how much I love a stone will outweigh any potential uncertainty this time! And I may look into that thanks for introducing me to these things!!

@maryjane04 @newtojewels @lulu_ma I got a video of some other options already and I need your help!

From left to right the colors are: H, I, L (my original L!!), J

I can't lie, the sparkle of the L caught my eye first as my fave in the faceting! Which one of the other ones do you think sparkle similarly? I almost feel like the J is too chubby! Maybe this is telling me I do truly like the L :wall:

tagging @Dreamer_D and @lavenderdragonfly23 too!

Can you see these all together in person?

My two fave are the L & the J. The H and I are similar in face up color the J but noticeably smaller.

Out of curiosity how much % wise is J vs. the L?

Price-wise? The J is over 65% more expensive than the L! Definitely out of our range, so I am probably eliminating the J as it is too wide looking for me anyway!

Sadly no. I can probably request to have 1 of them sent to me! I am leaning toward seeing the H in person? Would love your thoughts!

Here are the H and L comparisons! Does the H sparkle as beautifully as the L?

If possible, I think you should try hard to see two side-by-side in person. Maybe the L and one other, because you like the L faceting best from the video and want to know how you feel about that color in real life compared to something whiter.

Ok the J is definitely not worth the upcharge!

What are the measurements of the H and what’s your ring size?

I want to play around with diamdb.com

Sounds to me like you should take a look at the H-hopefully your jeweler can hold the L a smidge longer.

These were my favorites too but I was scared to say it without expert approval, lol.

Not an expert-I’m just a very thorough shopper:lol:

My ring size is a 5 ¾ and the measurements are 8.85mm x 8.25mm x 5.03mm (61% depth!) Does it being shallower impact how it sparkles a lot?

I think I only have until Monday to decide if I want the L or not. o_O And can't get the H in person until maybe Tuesday! I am so stressed!

What are the mm on the L? I can't see the cert on imgur anymore...

L is 9.11 x 8.58 x 6.04 mm :) 70% depth! Almost a full 10% deeper!

What's the price difference between the H and the L?

The H is about ~10% more expensive, but still within our budget, which is why I think I am being swayed toward that one if I decide I like the faceting!!

Would the lower depth cause any issues like windowing or darkness that I should be wary of? And would certain settings cause further darkness?

Okay, I hope this link works:

ETA:

Oh darn, it defaults to size 6.5 finger size and a 3mm band. You have to manually adjust to 5.75.

Thanks for this, this tool is awesome! The sizing seems visually very similar when I update the settings!! I think I am happy with the measurements of the H! Just trying to gauge if the sparkle is good enough!

The depth on the L will give it more "fire" but the H isn't shallow by any means. OMC's tend to be deeper but depth can also trap more of the tint.

What is your time frame?

Posting this one as a comp. I wish the face up was bigger...

I have to decide if I want to go with the L by Monday :( but I requested to see the H in person. The H may become my only option on Monday

I do t like the cut on the H at all. Looks lifeless in the center and I think you will see that in person.

I can see that the J is less tinted. Bigger too. But not sure it’s worth 50% more.

The I cut looks OK.

Lower depth means a flat lifeless stone. I can see it pretty clearly in the videos.

Can you run to any local stores this weekend?

Does the L ever face up white or always vanilla?

In some vids, the L faces up very similarly to the H, I, and J. The tint is most apparent from the side.

The thing about diamond color is that it’s all relative. Your eye will see the tint if the L is next to a colorless stone. But if the tint still bothers you when you have the L alone, then the L is probably not for you.
