Cushion modified brilliant vs Old miner help

Lol too big is not in our dictionary here on PS haha.

Okay so I've asked the expert (my DH) what he thought of the options.

He picked the L over the H :lol-2:

Oh man so many votes for the L here! The votes for the H are coming from my BF, my mom, and my sister :’) But they have an untrained eye lol!

What’s your timeframe again? I feel like your stone is out there. Maybe neither the H or the L is it. Where’s a K color when you need one?:lol-2:

Lol my husband is by no means an expert but I did have to persuade him into my upgrade. I had to show him many stones that were either way more expensive or uglier than mine. It was a valid argument lol.

I think all that your family are seeing is a white stone and not the faceting. Which is also fine too if that's what you prefer. It is a big purchase so you have to be happy with it.

I think a nice K colour stone might be a happy compromise. Your stone is out there!

My timeframe was just to have something by end of this year/early next year!

Yes a K that sparkles beautifully would be PERFECT! Where are they all??

You have time!! There's no rush when it comes to these stones. I don't think your family appreciates that aspect. If I asked my family what they think - they would probably all pick modern round brilliants or some variation of a modern cut. With old cuts sometimes you find the right stone without looking. Other times it could take days, weeks or months.

Ohhhh I did a deep dive and found something at OWD that based on the numbers has potential!

Also, you and @newtojewels should meet up at Civil Society Vintage on 11/2! JBG has a link to free tix.

I'm going to be at a wedding! I wish! But if there are other events or meetups in SF or seeing my J would somehow help you, @peachflower, please let me know!

What is OWD? :D

And I think I might try to attend!! Thanks so much!!

Omg yes if there is ever a meetup it would be so amazing to meet you & others & see your J! <3

Is that a OEC? So pretty! Thanks for sharing!

My educated guess based on the shape, she’s an old mine. But was cut during the transition from old mine to old euro, hence the floral center. This type of stone, is my absolute favorite… you get the best of both worlds. I could be totally wrong, Gia could call her an old euro… either way, she’s gorgeous!

Her listings sell in minutes, if you are interested, message her now and hit refresh refresh refresh. If she’s a 3ct K/L… omg. Her listings are also priced extremely well - hence why they go so quickly.

Goes live in 2 hours … you could always ask to see her GIA and look for clues if she’s a true antique or not. I would love to see what she is!

I found an OEC which I’m hoping has a cushion-y shape. 69.5% depth! Seeing if I can get a pic.

:O I would love to see!
I think they are closed on the weekends :/

Here are the specs. The price is retail list. If you like the stone and go direct to Adam (the owner) there’s some wiggle room. And there’s a review period, too!

I just don’t know if this will be oblong enough for you.

@peachflower: you would need to jump fast but Gilded Lane is posting now. There are some glitches but the Euro/Mine hybrid stone posted above should be coming up soon:

Edit: It's an M-ish and uncerted but cheap! I don't think this stone or style of purchasing is for you, then.

Great price but M color and no cert.

Gilded Lane is so great but her items go within minutes!

Bijoux Box posted this one a week ago (3.71ct, gia J, SI2 and 31k), it doesn’t say it has sold yet so maybe worth inquiring! She also shared one on her stories yesterday that I think was a 5ct L and 43k.

Stones are always popping up, you will find your perfect one, it may just take time!

This SI2 is lovely. Old cuts often have poor clarity. They just weren’t as concerned about it back in the day I suspect. The cut is amazing. This could be a way to get the color and size you want in budget. I don’t care about inclusions as long as they aren’t big and black under the table.

That's one she pulled when I asked her for something to compete with the one I ended up getting. I think it's so beautiful but was a bit deeper and squarer than I wanted for me, but it seems to have similar character to the L that @peachflower was originally considering. I have a few more videos of this stone compared to another. I can't seem to figure out how to download videos but here are some screenshots:

3.7 on the bottom:

I'm sure she could send the videos if asked! When I asked about the inclusons she said, "In the bigger [3.7] there a few more [freckles] but they are super blends"

Cut is gorgeous.

@lulu_ma @bee24 @lavenderdragonfly23 Thank you for sharing!

I am actually traveling this weekend (which is why I may be responding a bit late!) and came across an antique jewelry store where I was able to take a look at some rings with old mine and old euro stones! :D

I saw a 2.9 ct OEC K color that I thought was really pretty. And I saw several smaller OMC stones in the I-K range. It was helpful to see a big K stone in person to sort of compare with the L. I think this cemented that I do prefer something whiter than the L :( So I think I am coming to terms with letting go of the L on Monday :(

I am still going to request to see the H in person. I know the faceting does not stand out as much as the L (lifeless even!! which is so sad :(sad) but I still want to see her in person and see how I feel because the color and clarity are appealing to me! And who knows, she may bring me joy even if the consensus is that she's not as pretty... but doesn't mean she's totally ugly right? :(sad:(sad:(sad

Just keep an open mind and let your eyes decide. I think it was really good you got to try on a few different options to see not only the colour difference but the cut as well.

And if the H doesn't tick all the boxes you can move on. Don't settle for something that's "not ugly" lol.

No pics?! Next time please take pics for us (that’s the tax ).

How did you feel about the 2.9 ct K color size and shape wise? And, out of curiosity, how was the price?

Haha sorry I didn’t take any pictures but I found the item on their site: https://www.ramblingrose.net/collec...pean-cut-diamond-engagement-wedding-ring-copy

The size was good but I definitely prefer OMC over OEC shape-wise!

I am excited to see the H and see if I find her beautiful in person!
