jas12 really quick about the food on cruise ships. last year when we cruised with my friend and her then 6 month old, she just got some fruits and asked the people working the food stations to puree the fruits for her. and most if not all the time, they were more than happy to do it for her. but i can''t say that''s true for all cruise lines. i don''t want to tell you not to pack that stuff and then poor Co will have nothing to eat because they won''t puree anything for you. just a thought though. it must be so stressful packing for yourself and a 6 month old.

snlee D is adorable in his tanning bed. you really are a strong woman!!! i don''t know if i would have handled the whole jaundice case so well. but hopefully D is doing good and you and your DH are great also. glad to hear that BFing is going well.

Jas12
I think they want to discourage parents w/ crying babies from cruising -- mess with the ambience
41.gif

That's why they charge a ridiculous amount for the infant eh?
Anyway, I didn't see any ready made pureed baby food in the self-serve eateries,
but I'm sure you can ask one of their chef whip it up for you.
They are really accommodating and would be more than happy to do it for you.
The staff is one of the friendliest bunch of people I've met and they genuinely is happy if you ask them to do something.

However, like puffy said, still bring some cereal and baby food just in case.

snlee
Those pix are just precious.
I love the last one.
Look at that pursed lips.

Derek looks so precious in his tanning bed.
It''s neat how you got a pic of the paci mid air.

Jas12
seriously about the push-up bras, I definitely need to invest in a few after I start BFing. I already told DH that I might consider a breast lift when we are through with having kids.

hello ladies!!! How''ve you all been?? i missed u guys...

we were out of the country on a quick trip to Oman..we decided to celebrate our eid holidays with a bunch of the family over there (Thanks sbde for ur wishes :D)....

more later for sure, but i just have a minute to breathe and had to come in here and say hello!!

LOOOOVE all the baby pics!!

but real quick:

curly: awwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! look at ur adorable daughter! and wow..8cm with no epi!! u go girl!! glad u had a quick delivery

Snlee: wow...another amazing delivery story...seeing derek''s picture like that just broke my heart
7.gif
little K had jaundice too and even though it breaks our heart to see them like that, i agree with tacori that it is fairly common..

bobo: it just melted my heart to see pic C and little b smiling!!!

Jas: yay!!! good news about ur little boy!

TGal: Now isn''t little ms A a pretty little thing!!!

Q: hope Meena is feeling better!

okay..gotta rush now, sorry i havent addressed all of you ladies!! ill be back later with more updates...take care

snlee, so glad that Derek is doing well now. Poor little thing, it must have been so scary for you all. He''s such a beautiful little boy. Glad you didn''t find the hospital time too stressful and that the food was ok. It''s amazing how important things like a good meal are when you''re recovering from L&D and coping with the stress of a sick baby.

We had much the same experience with Amelia and it was down to the skill of the staff at the hospital that she pulled through with no lasting effects. (If anyone from Forthpark Hospital ever reads this, thank you, you are amazing!)

Mrssalvo, too funny about Jake and the cup! Amelia loves her sippy cup. It actually belongs to a friend''s toddler, left behind after a visit. Amelia plays with it for hours. I don''t know what she''d think if I put anything in it, she just loves to chew the handles!

Tacori, your little girl is so photogenic, I love these latest pics. She''s gorgeous!

QT, thinking about you and Meena, hoping all is well. We''re having some tests done on Amelia''s kidneys as the ped was a little worried she had urinary reflux and like Meena''s, they were slightly different sizes too. The tests are way more upsetting for us as parents than they are for the babies, I think. Amelia was pretty cool about the whole thing so far, including having to lie still for up to 5 minutes at a time in a scanner. I''m amazed at how well she coped and I''m sure Meena will too. I was a wreck, but the baby was absolutely fine. The worst part was that we had such stormy weather there was a power cut half way through one test and it took a minute or two for the back up generators to start. We were plunged into darkness while the Dr was half way through placing an IV.

Diver, sooooo sorry you''re having problems with your kitty. Our cat was always an indoor cat that got to go outside now and then. For all the reasons you listed, he''s now an outdoor cat. Nothing comes before the baby, nothing at all. However much we love the cat (and dog, for that matter) they are pets, not children. I totally understand where you''re coming from and support you 100%. I hope you find a solution that works for you all. Sorry you got so much negative feedback.

Jen

Jas, I''ll let you know closer to April. I think it will be the weekend after good friday. I have to find out when my sister''s bridal shower is to see if I can come on a saturday or sunday. It will be fun to meet!!!

snlee, glad he is doing better. Love the "tanning booth" pics!

Jas12, I would probably pack some to be on the safe side.

msb, I was wondering about you and K! Glad you were away doing something fun. How is his eating going?

MrsM, thank you. Would it be strange to use one of the pics for a holiday card?

puffy, little B is doing well except he is teething so he is crabby sometime. I can feel the tip of his teeth but we still can''t really see it. Sorry to hear about the sunroof left open, good thing it''s leather.

lili, my nephew pinched my sister when she was nursing him while he was still a baby. They will grow out of it...they are just practing their new skill, once they are tired of it they will move on to a new torture method ^__^. wait until they got teeth and bite.

snlee, the jaundice story made me teary, you must have been so worry and crying your eyes out. I can relate, I''m glad he is ok now. Derek look so cute in the tanning bed.

Bobo, I''m so glad to hear that little B is doing well. You have my sympathy on the teething thing, Ame is at that stage too - I can see and feel them, but they aren''t quite through yet. She has little red cheeks and perma-drool on her chin. Poor babies, I hope they are both through it soon!

Tacori, my girlfriend used a studio pic of her little boy for Christmas cards last year and they were fantastic. I plan to use one of Amelia''s Christening photos this year. My friend is a photographer and she took some photos that just blew me away, they were fabulous. I can''t for the life of me figure out how to post them here because when I size them using my usual software, I lose some of the image. Do you ever use Flikr? There are some links there to companies who will process the pics into holiday cards, so there must be a fair bit of demand for that. I''m guessing Tessa cards would be well received, she''s supercute!

Jen

Here's my attempt to catch up...sorry if I missed anyone.

jas12, co is so adorable! Yay for sitting on his own!

Bobo, glad B is back home and feeling better. OMG I feel your pain! At a few days old, D had so pointy sharp nails and I attempted to cut his nails. Last nail I'm on I cut I nipped some skin and he was bleeding a lot, for what seemed like forever! DH wasn't pleased with me and his piercing cried broke my heart! I thought I was going to die too! I felt like such a bad bad bad mommy! I applied pressure and the bleeding finally stopped. You must have been so scared since his bleeding took longer to stop. Now I am only filing his nails!

Mommies, when did you start using nail clippers to clip your baby's nails?

Tacori, I can't believe Tessa is walking and that she'll be a year old next month! I still remember when you were pregnant and it doesn't seem like that long ago!

Burk, hope you and T are feeling better!

jas, so glad Jackson is okay! Phew! You must have been worried sick! I hear you on the pumping. MOO right back at you! Love the pic of the twins. So cute!

TGal, cute picture of A! That reminds me! I need to start taking monthly pictures with a stuffed animal like you, MrsS, and others. I love that idea!

Q, sorry to hear about M. I hope the tests go smoothly and quickly.

ella, omg did you take a test yet?!

Hi Diver, MrsM, msb, puffy, lili! Hope you are doing well!

Question about bathing - pedi said to use shampoo only once a week and no soap on body, just on private areas. How often did you bathe your baby? When did you start using soap all over? I am so confused and hoping you ladies can give me some good advice.

Thanks! I haven''t changed my avatar for years but when I was pregnant I knew I wanted to change it to a baby feet picture because they are so cute!

I just want to eat them!

I also liked the picture of you looking at your little one under the lights. You look wonderful, by the way.

How''s the baby''s routine at home going?

How''s the baby''s routine at home going?
Awww thanks fisher! And thanks for asking how we are doing. The first day home I was delirious. Between the feedings, ice/warm compress on my breasts, sitz baths, and trying to get settled in, I couldn''t remember a thing or what I wanted to do next. I wrote lots of lists and even had to put pee, poop, brush, and shower on there because I hardly had any time between feedings or I couldn''t remember what I needed to do. That day was the worst. I was sleep deprived and still in lots of pain. My parents came over to watch Derek while we napped and that was a huge help. My mom and MIL have brought over a lot of food so that helps a lot. We don''t have to cook and can still eat healthy good meals.

DH and I feel like we are adjusting well. I think we have a well-behaved baby (for the moment). Sometimes he''ll whimper and cry for a few seconds then he''ll calm himself down. He cries when he is hungry or needs his diaper changed, sometimes when he is just being fussy and wants to be held. Derek is breastfeeding well and sleeps in between feedings. I''ve been able to get a few nights of 7 hours of sleep this past week, which has been awesome. The sleep deprivation is horrible and makes you feel like you''re in a fog. It''s not uninterrupted sleep but I am still happy. Sometimes the breastfeeding gets exhausting and overwhelming and I feel like I''m just a feeding machine but I just tough it out. Really, nothing is bad after going through natural childbirth. I feel like I can do anything now. For the time being things are going smoothly. We don''t need my parents help anymore. We even have some free time. I can go online and he can watch football or work. We''ve made a few trips out with baby (to the pedi appointments and shopping) and he sleeps right through the car rides and shopping! I''ve never been happier and I''ve never seen DH happier. I feel like our lives were missing Derek and now it''s more complete. I hope I''m not jinxing us by saying this!

That''s great that your lives are more full now than ever before. That''s the way it''s supposed to be. I''m glad Derek is being a good boy; I hope he keeps it up the next 25 years or so!

About the sitz baths, how long does that last? I''ve heard of tearing and being cut and that this is an outcome of it, but I''ve never known how long that lasts or when it is that you''re "back to normal." Did they give you information on it when you left the hospital?

The nurse just said to use it 2-3 times a day for 15-20 minutes. They didn''t say for how long and I forgot to ask. I actually only used it a few times (much less than I would have liked) then we had to go back to the hospital. As for being back to normal, a week after delivery, the swelling is gone or very minimal and most of the time I feel okay. Before it hurt to sit and now it just hurts sometimes. It hurt all the time before but now it only hurts when I can feel my stitches and that''s when I take the Ibuprofen they prescribed me. I''m down from 3 times a day to 2 times a day so it''s improving. Of course every case is different based on how bad the tear, episiotomy, L&D was. I think mine was pretty bad though since I had an episiotomy and pushed for so long. I was very swollen!

snlee, I don't envy you. The first 4 months were VERY hard for me and I didn't really adjust until month 6. I remember the days where I had to decide what need was most important (shower, eat, bathroom, sleep) b.c I knew I only had time for one. Of course she wanted to eat every hour for awhile. I never really did the sitz baths at home (and think I only did it twice at the hospital) I did love the squirt bottle. I was a *MESS* down there though. That's awesome your swelling is gone so quickly.

As for baths we only did it a few times a week until we introduced solids. We always used the all in one soap. I can't remember when we introduced though. I also laid off a lot of lotion. Newborns don't really need that kind of stuff.

Fisher, I honestly can't remember when I was healed down there. It took awhile though.
14.gif

MrsM, didn't know if I should do a more "winter" photo since these are pretty fall. Guess it doesn't *really* matter. Can't wait to see your new pics!

Hi gang. Wouldja believe both boys are sleeping at the same time? Life is good.

My 6 week post-partum is tomorrow. I''m astonished...and hoping they don''t weigh me. I hate that damned scale.
25.gif
DH is, needless to say, very excited about the appointment. Ya know...cuz...ya know.

QT -- re: breastfeeding...my husband is under the sad illusion that my boobs will remain inflated like a Michelin tire for the rest of my life. Ha.
Jas12 -- I''m afraid I missed it -- when are you leaving on a cruise? Are you excited (aside from this PITA packing/food information part).
Snlee- gorgeous photos. What stunners you and your baby are!
Puffy -- I love your avatar. And your screen name, for that matter!
Hi Lili!!! Hey Bobo!
35.gif

msb -- can''t wait to hear about your trip!
mrs. m - how are you?
tacori -- i swear T gets even more impossibly gorgeous w/ each new avatar you post!!

msb
Welcome back.
Can''t wait to hear and see

your vacation.

Tacori
I don''t think it is strange to use those pictures for a holiday card.
Not everywhere snow (or looks like winter).

Bobo
Awwww....little B is teething?
Hopefully it won''t take long for those teeth to come in.
Haha, I''ve already experienced her bite.
They hurt even when it was just gum. Now add in those razor sharp stubs....OUCHY!

MrsM
Can''t wait to see Amelia''s christening pictures.

snlee
Awwww...cute new avi.
Look at those tiny feet.
Derek sounds like he''s the perfect little angel.
I''m glad to hear that motherhood and fatherhood agres with you and hubby

As for baths, we didn''t starting bathing J until she''s over a week old.
Since her stump was taking alot longer to come off (4 wks), we gave her a sponge bath twice a week.
Once the stump came off, we bathe her every other day using the head-to-toe soap.
Now that she starts daycare, we bath her everyday.

fisher, the recovery time will vary from person to person.
I had a small episiotomy and my labor was pretty short, so there wasn''t much swelling or pain.
So I didn''t use the sitz bath (and frankly who''s got 15 minutes when the baby is constantly wanting to eat).
I just use the squirt bottle and tums pads.
I pretty much felt normal within that week.
However, when I went for my 6 wk PP checkup, the doctor did an internal examination and said no nookie for another 2 wks.
Guess I recovered slower than normal :P

jas
Good luck at the appt.
I''m sure you''ll be pleasant surprise by the number on the scale.
BFing helps shed pounds....especially when you''ve got 2 champ eaters there :D

So I didn't use the sitz bath (and frankly who's got 15 minutes when the baby is constantly wanting to eat).
Glad I'm not the only one who felt this way. I tried my best to use it though because I wanted to heal ASAP.

Fisher, I just took a short trip out to buy some baby stuff today and I was in lots of pain while walking. I felt lots of pressure down there. It had been around 8 hours since my last pill. I couldn't wait to come home to take another one! Thank goodness for drugs! 9 days after childbirth and I'm still hurting there. Just an update.

jas, have a great appointment.

My 2-week appointment is this Friday. I don't think they do an internal exam. What should I expect?

snlee
Take it easy for the first few weeks.
Don''t overexert yourself.
DH was pretty insistent that I pretty much stayed off my feet the first 2 weeks at least, even though I was fine.
He didn''t even let me go downstair to the kitchen.

Hmm...I don''t think I had a 2-wk appt.
Just had the 6-wk one, so I wouldn''t know what they do.
They may do an internal, at least a visual one just to see how you are healing?

snlee glad to hear that you and your DH are adjusting well to being parents. there really is no greater joy! i definitely don''t miss those sleep deprived days, but it sounds like you guys are doing well. B was a pretty good newborn and turned into the best sleeper.

tacori DH and i were going to use one of B''s normal pics for holiday cards if we can;t get a good one of him in his christmas outfit.

bobo poor little B!! but the teething phase shall pass.

jas thanks!!! puffy is actually my dog''s name. haha. he''s a 10 year old pomeranian.

I have so many questions -

When did your little one start sleeping through the night? How long did they sleep?

snlee
"Sleeping through the night" means that they sleep for 5+ hrs straight.
If you are lucky like Diver and TGal with a sleeper, then it can happen as early as 10 wks.
If Derek is anything like J, Co, or Jake, then it could be alot longer (6mnths and we are still waiting for that day).

snlee
Yeah, the official definition of STTN is sleeping for 5 or more hours. So it's hardly sleeping through the night.
We were really lucky because Meena started STTN since she was about 3 weeks old. Now she is usually sleeping around 8 hrs from 10pm - 6am, but a last two days she slept only from 10pm - 3am, nursed, then went from 3am - 7am. But she is not really a good napper during the day. That's why I post mostly late at night.

Before the stump fell off, we just gave M sponge bath with water and no soap 2 - 3 times a week. After the stump fell off, we give her a bath every other day with soap and wipe her with a wet cloth on the day we don't give her a bath. That was because it was really hot here and she was really sweaty. Now it's cooler, so we will bath her every other day only.

The first month Meena was home, I thought it was easy too. She slept so much that I still have time to do a lot of things. Now that she is awake more, it's harder because I have to stimulate her. It's great that you and Mr. snlee is doing great with parenthood. It's the best thing in the world.

msb
How was your trip?

MrsMitchell
Thanks for sharing your experience. I am glad that Amelia did well with the scan, so hopefully Meena will too. I got the letter from our IPA, it says "injection for bladder x-ray". So I think they are doing a VCUG. I will ask the dr office when I call to schedule the appointment. Is that the same scan Amelia had?

fisher
Everyone is different with recovery (you probably already know that, but just asking to get an idea of what's average). I only felt sore for a week postpartum, no pain or anything. I used the peri bottle every time I used the toilet for the first week, and that's it. About sitz bath, actually nobody even told me about them, not my dr or all the nurses. Maybe it's because I didn't have any pains from my episiotomy/stitch. They kept asking me if I feel pain or needed pain killer, but I just felt a little sore.

And at my 6 week appt, my dr did an internal and a pap smear. He said everything looks good, call in three weeks about your pap smear, if it's normal, then he'll see me in a year unless I get pregnant. That was my ok for sex. hehe.

jas
I think DH has the same illusion in the beginning when my milk was just coming in, and I was always engorged. He knows the truth now. haha.

I wouldn't be surprised if you are below your pre-pregnancy weight. You look great.

lili
So funny that your DH won't let you go downstair. My MIL, DH's aunts and grandma was telling not to walk up and down the stair, and just have DH bring food up for me. I am bad, so I didn't listen. In fact, I didn't listen to anything (the not showering/washing hair, the no wearing tank tops and shorts, etc) beside the food. But that's only because MIL was cooking for me and I just ate anything she cooked. hehe.

Hi there Jackie, I''m doing great, thanks! Love your cut pics, your boys are darling!

QT, that sounds like one of the tests Amelia had - she had 3 in all. One U/S scan, one Xray with an injection of dye and one with the bladder injection, via a catheter. She giggled through quite a lot of it, honestly it was no big deal to her, she was just happy that so many people were fussing over her. Much more upsetting for me than her. I''m sure Meena will cope really well, but you might need a bit of support!

Tacori, you''re going to have some supercute winter pics quite soon, I feel sure! Either will make gorgeous cards though!

Jen

Snlee, I remember going to BB&B with my MIL and baby around 10 days after birth and when the cashier found out she said "Oh, wow, you must still be in pain" (I was). I did go to the doctor about a week or two after delivery but that is b/c I had complications. I also went for the standard 6 week appointment.

T was under weight so she needed to be fed often. At 6 months she started sleeping 7pm-7am (aprox.) It was bliss.

Hello mommies! I do not have time to catch up, but wanted to say hello. So fun to see the new mommies (snlee, read most of your story and it''s AMAZING-love your avatar too). Crazy, crazy weekend....volleyball, DH left for Vegas for work, trips to NICU to see friends baby, bachelorette party, hangover
